Will fix everything
My honest prediction for the Sabres season: Buffalo overpays for a scoring forward that isn’t a fit (someone like Ehlers and Necas). There isn’t any real revamping of the roster just additions so the underlying problems aren’t fixed. They add a bottom line center and a goonish forward

Edit: I wrote up a 'Adams gets aggressive but not smart" roster:

I’m not certain the Sabres need Necas, but there are the stories that the Sabres scouting staff wanted Necas over Mittelstadt.

In internal discussions, I wonder if Adams and the staff are talking about Necas’ potential as a center with an eye to what they’ve thought of him over the years.

Getting centers is hard. If they think Necas can be a center full time and can work a deal, they might make the deal.

It won’t make sense to us as a singular trade, but if Adams had bigger plans it could make more sense. Eg: buying out Skinner, using free agency to get more gritty bottom six players, etc.

Not that I'm crazy about Necas, but I'm confused by all these reports from journalists and insiders.

First Friedman says that Carolina would like to get for Necas a very solid prospect who ready play in NHL (we have some). Then yesterday Marek says that the Sabres are interested in Necas, but they don't have the parts Carolina wants return. Wait what?

Perhaps they want size and we don’t want to part with the very few pieces we have on D and F, that actually exceed 6’1

That's the problem, I have no idea what they want because all these reporters are constantly reporting different information.

You can take out "Necas" and fill in "Byram" a couple months ago and your post would be just as logical. The only thing that would be different is that Colorado got what they needed, while Carolina would likely not get what they need in a Necas deal.

FWIW, it was posted here a while back that Buffalo's scouting dept wanted Necas in that draft, not Mittelstadt. IMO that was a lucky miss, that's now neither here nor there. The team needs more Sam Bennett and less Necas, but I'm not so sure they actually realize this.
We needed another 'top 4' defenceman pretty badly. You might argue that a more defensive orientated player, or a right shot would have been a better fit than Byram - but that move made a lot more sense than trading for Necas. There simply isn't room for him on this roster. It doesn't make sense on any level.

Bennett is a different story. It won't happen - but I'd be thrilled to acquire a player like him.

Based on Adams' recent comments - i think he knows exactly what this team needs.

Well, yeah, like always.

Well, Lance literally confirmed in this video that Adams is looking for a top 6 forward.

I think they can't rely only on kids, also you should always have insurance in case of injuries and regression of players.

Although I think that 3C is of course a priority, I wouldn’t turn down a top 6 forward or a top 9 forward like Coleman, Haula or someone like that.

They didn't start using Jokiharju on the PK until later in the season which is why he's sixth on the entire team among defensemen playing shorthanded last year. Their PK got better because of goaltending and not having Jokiharju drifting around out of position. Johnson, Samuelsson and Clifton got the bulk of the SH minutes and then Sammy got hurt and EJ got traded. They do not trust Joker on the PK.
To be honest I don't trust Joki on the PK either. lol

This whole PK derail started because someone said we have to keep Clifton over Joki because Joki can't PK. All the while Clifton is significantly worse at 5v5 and worse at the pk, despite Clifton being more "trusted" to PK. Power, EJ, Sammy and Clifton were the "trusted" PKers. Only Sammy was good at it and the other 3 were quite bad.

I'm not sure. After the TDL he talked about needing a top-six wing and a 4C. If anything he should be after a top/middle -six C and bottom -six wingers. He's had plenty of time to build the roster by adding bigger more physical and defensive vets, and only Greenway comes close. One guy... and I'm pretty sure he thinks Krebs fills an important hole. If so that's an obviously bad sign.

I mentioned his name earlier but if the Rangers don't re-sign him I really hope Adams goes for Jack Roslovic for 3C as he is entering UFA so it wouldn't cost us any assets. I know people on pining on Bennett but I don't see Florida letting him go and he will be a cheaper resign once they locked up Reinhart.

Maybe we shouldn't? Even in UFA there will probably be more interesting options, not to mention trade.
