It seems that we are not as good with the cap as I thought. Adams will have to pay UPL and Jokiharju 7-9 million for new contracts. Sign several fourth liners and find a 3C. But he will have 5-7 million for a new center.

You cant find someone other than Levi to exchange? We have been so desperate for goalies I'm not about to just give UPL the keys and mortgage Levi for a top 6 winger when its not a position of need. Brady would be a luxury at this point and not a need.
Chad was trying to make the conversation hard and not an easy yes for Sabres fans.

The challenge with any of these ideas are that we have no real idea what GMs think about the players the Sabres have to offer up.

Looking at how bad the Sens goalies were last year, I could see them wanting Levi or UPL in a deal for Tkachuk. Ottawa has a mess in goal and nothing of real note coming in net. I could see them really wanting a good young goalie if they move Tkachuk.

Crazy idea: the Flames trade Wolf in a deal for Brady...

Like @Chainshot has been harping on about the lack of focus on forechecking hard and taking the body, I wonder if wall play is something that Lindy can improve or not.

I'm interested to see how everything works out on defense.

Locked in:

Dahlin
Power
Byram

Reasonably sure they'll be here:

Samuelsson
Clifton

Unsure:

Jokiharju

Buffalo has been pretty adamant about trading players when they get arb eligible if they don't want them long term (Reinart, Mittelstadt)

I look at teams like Utah with literally no d-men under contract currently (and a shit ton of picks). Calgary needs help on D and has some vet forwards to move.

Do you think Adams will trade Jokiharju for pick? Then who will replace him or will it be Johnson/Bryson?

AFP predicts two contract options for Jokiharju:

4M x 3Y and 3.3M x 1Y

I'm pretty intrigued by this offseason. I think Adams will be pretty active. It'll be interesting to see the type of players he targets.
Marty and Duff are already guessing

I don't think Calgary trades wolf. After the markstrom crap that happened this year at the deadline, I feel like you need to move him rather than wolf.

Maybe. I'm just saying that he is the type of goalie that Ottawa might be likely to target if they decide to trade Brady before his NMC kicks in on 7/1/2025.

And it would allow Ottawa to trade Brady out of the conference. Calgary makes sense since they have had a Tkachuk before...

:dunno:

I think Joker goes for picks and he then flips picks+ for a forward. I don't think he's going to get a ton of value for Joker (A 2nd + 3rd/4th depending on where the 2nd is), but those picks will offset whatever we spend to get a forward.

Well, or Adams will sign one-year contracts with Joker and UPL, that is also possible.

I was going to touch on the Calgary bit but I'm glad I decided to read down further as @Mattilaus touched on that.

The Leafs, New Jersey and Ottawa are all desperate looking for goalies; we have been desperate looking for goalies pretty much since Miller. Goalies are not easy to come by so trading Levi or UPL is such a dumb move when you have nothing behind them to make up for the loss and currently no sure starter has come forward and proved they can be a starter yet between the two.

If Ottawa wants UPL and or Levi, than Brady Tkachuk is just not in our cards and that's the way it is. If we miss out on Brady, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it because like I said, hes a luxury, not a necessity.

I would rather we put pieces we can trade away at a position of strength for a position of need like a damn good 3C.

EDIT: To add onto the other teams looking for a goalie, its literally the one position holding them back from going further than they have. If Ottawa is so willingly ready to move Brady for a goalie, that says a whole damn lot on how special goalies are in the NHL and we shouldn't touch what we barely have. I would say both goalies are truly untouchable until they are not.

None of these teams are looking to trade their most elite talent for a goalie. If you went to every GM in the NHL and said, in a vacuum, you can add Brady Tkachuk to your roster or any NHL goalie, pick one, I think 75-80% take Tkachuk and that Shesterkin is the only goalie taken otherwise (maybe Oettinger by a GM or two). Outside of Buffalo there are not many hockey people who think Levi is anything close to a sure fire NHL starter, let alone an elite one. Turning down a Brady Tkachuk trade because Levi is part of the ask would be viewed as insanity by the hockey world.

This is correct. It would take a unicorn type player ( Brady Tkachuk) for me trade Levi or UPL at this point. And at this point it would be Levi.
