Just some food for thought for all of you who are worried about Gorts being non-committal to Kakko in his interview: He's covering his ass. How dumb would he look if he was pumping Kakko's tires for the next two months and then Shero walked up to the podium and snatched him away?

Relax. It's going to be Kakko or Hughes. Just enjoy it.

Even the the silly idea that the Rangers might take Podkolzin over Kakko is easily dismissed. Even if the Rangers had both players even, (which I doubt), Kakko steps into the lineup next season, (which does fit the idea of accelerating the rebuild). Podkolzin isn’t coming here for at least another two years.

If we draft Kakko it's going to be a nonstop "Youngest player to do X for the Rangers" party next season. Not ever drafting so high means we've never really had a player come in at 18 years old and produce.

I mean, guys, MSG literally ran a segment with Vally highlighting Hughes and Kakko. Like Trxjw said, sit back and enjoy it. We should be focusing more on where our other potential picks may end up between Dallas, Tampa, and Winnipeg.

From the videos I've seen Kakko is always attacking the net and he will use his size and strength to protect the puck and get to the net. He does look a lot like Barkov. From scouting reports he apparently is pretty diligent all over the ice and not just in the offensive zone--that he's a complete player and not just an offensive threat and that's it say like Patrik Laine.

I'm guessing that the Devils do take Jack Hughes but people should be ready in case they decide on Kakko instead. Either or--getting one of the two best players in the draft is a very good thing. So if we end up with Hughes instead that's very okay too. That guy is a whirlwind on his skates and a magician with the puck. It's like choosing between Patrick Kane or Barkov--you can't really lose.

I already see that people are saying with Kakko it now makes Kreider expendable. Old like to have them both.

I don’t think it makes him expendable. But, you do have the likelihood of Kakko and Kravtsov being added to next year’s team. You also have the uncertainty of his next contract. If Kreider and the Rangers cannot come to an agreement, Gorton needs to move him and maximize his trade value, and not have it hanging over the franchise until the trade deadline.

I had to teach a class tonight while the lottery was going on - I just wanted to thank each and every one of you for the most entertaining read in the Lottery GDT that I could have possibly hoped for. It really was fantastic to see you guys sweat and lose your minds. Congrats on our highest draft pick since... I don't even know when.
Same here, was isolated from my phone until 9pm, grabbed a drink or three and then read through the thread laughing my ass off finding out exactly what happened along with the whole crew here, it was amazing

please no podkolzin.

and no way in hell Podkolzin is chosen over KK. 1000% certainty that wont happen.

i wouldn't even chose podkolzin at all.

so many other better options.

He's referring to the potential to acquire the Coyotes' pick at 14 in a deal for Kreider, which @bobbop has speculated on as a possibility.

If they acquired that pick too....

Jesus, imagine if we had:

#2
#14
#22
#28
#31
#37

6 picks in the first 37

NEED a Dallas sleeper run and a Tampa Cup Win

From the highlights I've seen of Kakko on YT , I see some Austin Matthews in him....I really do. And that my friends would be glorious for us. Man I am so stoked at what our future looks like.

A #1 line of Chytl, Kakko and Kravtsov circa 2022 is dancing thru my head as I type this...lol

Watching clips of him, style wise Matthews is a very good comparable.
