They have amassed a really talented young team.

I just realized Fitz is only 26… I thought he was 28 or 29 for some reason.
Tomlin isn’t known for getting the most out of the talent around him, so we’ll see if he can finally figure out.

Canada has so many weapons at his disposal and he has to make some big leaps as an OC to utilize them properly.

I have my doubts he will max out the talents of unique guys like Washington, Heyward and Austin, but I’ll be happy to be wrong.
How can you make that statement??? When he had a complete roster with depth he won a Super Bowl and went to another. In the 2010's, Ben's salary skyrocketed, Colbert had terrible roster management and drafting. The team had stars but little depth to handle any type of injury.

Oh.

I don't watch preseason. I saw people complaining about him and thought he was a FB now. Didn't realize they were still trying to make him an OL. If they're not even seeing how it would go in a preseason game at FB, it's probably best to just cut him now.

The Steelers made Watt one of the highest paid FBs of all time, then let him walk because Canada never used the guy.

Now they have a talented utility guy like Heyward they have to find more snaps for, including at FB.

I don’t see how this Green at FB nonsense ever becomes a reality.

I don’t understand the people who claim Tomlin hasn’t had an equal hand in the Steelers roster the last decade as the GM…

He absolutely did, because Cowher had a huge say with Colbert; and you saw the results the last decade. I think they have pivoted with Khan & Weidl, Tomlin has a say, but it's not 51%.

Ergo, any deficiencies in talent and developing the talent they had are on him first and foremost

Khan is on record saying that it still Tomlin who has the majority of say in roster construction. Tomlin said it best when he was asked about the redistribution of the roster know he doesn’t have all the funds going to the Qb room. They can redistribute the responsibility on offense

I wasn't watching super hard either, but I don't think I saw him get FB snaps and I don't the lowlights include him there.

But on the one hand, it seems weird they'd run it in camp but not even try it in a game.

On the other... there's not enough snaps to justify Kendrick Green, FB. There are to justify Kendrick Green, C/FB, but that only works if he is a C. Which good lord he ain't.

Heyward at FB is a good way to get him on the field because I think he's capable of making plays. I don't know that he provides the same level of "you know what's coming, but let's see you try and stop it" type of blocking that, in theory, a 315lb Green could provide.

I'm not necessarily advocating for it, but I could at least understand the experiment. Trying to make him a OL, though? I think that ship has sailed.

Have you not noticed the difference in the “roster construction” the last 12 months.??.

Heyward is a swiss army knife. Green is slow out of his stance but him filling in as a back up c and a ST o linemen plus FB in short yardage is what they want

They lost a ton of depth after the Covid season shrunk the cap. They tried to piece together a team while still paying Ben. Ben finished his career as the 3rd highest paid player in the history of the league.
Now they are building a roster like other teams with rookie Qb contracts. They have the entire offense on under contract for 2 more seasons

How many players play for 18 years in the league ??
If you go through the top of the list, that’s what you’ll find.
Players with longevity.

Ben wasn’t paid any higher then his peers at his position though out his career.
Stop trying to insinuate like he was

If that is true, why hire Andy Weidl? This past draft looked way more Andy Weidl style than anything we have done with Tomlin as coach.

Overall mostly good stuff, I think the sack he allowed was more on Tanner Morgan deciding to bail from a clean pocket. Might've had one brain fart where he didn't pick up on the linebackers faking pressure and the DL stunting. Better in pass pro than run blocking at this point in time.

This ^^

It’s pretty clear the different direction they took in the draft.
Don’t forget tomlin wanted Jpj with the first pick. And if Colbert is still here he probably accommodates him

Weidl and khan did a great job working the phones and still wound up with Jpj at 32

Because it's not a one man band. Tomlin can be the majority decision maker but still need and use outside voices, and let himself get overruled from time to time. Not like having Weidl here is any different to having the other guy who Khan beat out for the job and who then moved on.

I think they said before the draft that it was Tomlin, Khan and Rooney making the decisions. Weidl led the research, Weidl set the board, but it was those three making the decisions.

And I think there was still a bunch of continuity in there. Looking at Wisconsin players. Drafting a brother. The trench focus, well, the roster pretty much forced that. I think Weidl is here because they really don't see a whole lot of difference between what he wants to do and what they want to do.

If they wanted a true FB thumper in there, they could have kept Watt.

Seeing Green lunge at air and fall over in that clip above isn’t exactly who I want lead blocking in heavy sets.

I do get what you are saying, in theory, but he isn’t worth a roster slot for maybe a dozen plays a year down at the goal line.

Maybe you can throw back an argument to convince me that would be worth it - I dunno.

Heyward reminds me of a modern day John L Williams and he should be getting those snaps even on the goal line IMHO.

They are going to have to get hands on this dude at the line. If teams don't, he's going to terrorize them.

Nice to see. The offense desperately needs a guy who can make big plays like that. The lack of big plays from the offense has been a problem for years.

I watched him all game and he held his own early on, in the third and fourth he was dominating on many snaps… then that sacked happened.

He has to learn how to hand fight better and stop letting guys get into his chest, because then he loses leverage with his big ass body and gets stood up and walked.

I’m sure that will get cleaned up by the coaches though.

Khan was always the cap guy. He didn’t of a ton of scouting experience. Weidl was an outside guy people always complain when we don’t hire outside people.

Why because they drafted an o lineman the Eagles drafted 2 OT in the first round since 2012
