Herbig is going to see a starting OLB out of here within 2 seasons. He may be undersized, but he's like Guentzel - strong for his size and doesn't get pushed around.

Green is going to be cut

How long will this staff put up with Najee running up the backs of his linemen?

I'm not sure the MLB situation is going to be better this year, but they should be less frustrating.

Oh man, when does the Kenny Pickett statue go up?!

Btw for you PITT fans here, that Warren TD was Dane Jackson’s fault. That dude is the worst CB in the league. And nice story with Hamlin and all, but he should be cut too. They have 3 safeties miles ahead of him. Sorry, just saying.

I think you need some serious therapy for your anti-Pitt stances.

It genuinely seems like you'd rather see someone on the Steelers fail because they went to Pitt over succeeding because they're on the Steelers.

The NFL puts too little of an emphasis on actual results and overemphasizes measurables. It's an incredibly bizarre mindset to have.

Green gets thrown at Rudolph again. I’ve never seen anything like this where an OL just keeps getting rag dolled.

Because I'm easily bored and occasionally petty, I went back through the last couple Steelers threads I could easily find or so to see if the guy ever actually talks Steelers, or just hating Pitt and loving Madden.

The results of this search will not shock you or anyone else.

It’s Madden’s burner account.

Well, if it makes anyone feel better, I do agree with this.

Steelers looked good. Pickett looked good. Optimism should still be cautious.

…and idk how you can’t. It’s just perceived biases aside.

Here - one thing I’ll take Madden to task on - it’s annoying how he acts like Watt is brittle and will get hurt this year just ‘cause.

Also Justin Shorter TD #WeAre

What an amazing first half of football only to be sullied singlehandedly by Kendrick Green in the second half.

I felt bad for Rudolph, the RBs, everyone involved in that offense to have him ruin it.

Grab a new backup C and just move on.

The Moore/Jones thing is going to be very interesting. Jones is still a great developmental prospect but he isn't overwhelming me at all playing against opponents' second teams. Moore starting for the forseeable isn't how anyone wanted it to go but if the 1st rounder isn't seizing the opportunity we shouldn't hand him the starting spot just because.

Green is weak as shit. He’s bad and I sincerely hope he doesn’t make this team.

Also, I think Kwon has won a starting gig so far. He’s been our best ILB.

Honestly I kinda wanted Moore to get it because some places have been so rah-rah about Jones

But, y'know, being more mature, if Moore can continue being legit into the season, it's a good result. Not as sexy as Broderick Jones being an instant stud, but as long as someone rises to the competition and the other guy is viable depth, it's a result and it looks like that's what happened.

I also think that the team haven't really given Jones a ton of opportunity tbh. Bits here and there, but this feels like Pickett last season - they knew what they wanted, and ran the teams that way.

Moore becoming legit would be great to plan to move him to RT in the future and have Jones take over for him. If Moore is looking good so far, I'm absolutely willing to see how he does.

Jones will eventually be the starting LT, but he was viewed as raw as a prospect and it wouldn't hurt to give him a bit of time to ease into the NFL. It's just a question of how Moore can do until Jones takes over.

It is early of course. But what an amazing draft class.

I'm seriously sitting here thinking that I can't remember the last draft class we had where so many rookies popped out in a good way. I'd love to see Herbig challenged more. As of right now, he's damn near unblockable.

With him being as good in coverage as he is rumored to be, he may be a real good guy to turn into a swiss army knife. It's wild because you see the TJ influence, but they couldn't be more different about how they go about their craft. TJ will just bend and power. Herbig is like f***ing Houdini. Some of these moves he makes on tackles make them look so silly.

He has to be cut. This can't continue going on. Him and Dotson both. We don't have a good record right now developing linemen. Chuks blows. Green blows. Dotson blows. Moore looks like he is better this season, but his progress has been really slow after being a 4 year starter in college.

If the Steelers could draft CB or ILB the way they draft WR and OLB, they'd be onto something.

I really think we might be pretty good.

If only. That first team offense is not joking around. They just come out and produce. I am kind of concerned about Najee. Two straight runs right up his linemen's backs. His explosion has been an issue, but his vision and patience may sink him. Warren looks drastically better when he has the ball in his hands, and he's also a way better pass blocker.

I think this team is better starting Jones on the right side over Chuks. Get him in the game and get reps, but don't let Kenny get killed.

I’m not sold on Moore having turned a corner just yet.

Maybe having his replacement drafted #1 motivated him to work hard… maybe not working next to Dotson anymore is helping…

He’s barely played in pre-season so it’s hard to look too bad.

It does look like the plan is to swing Moore out to RT eventually, but like you brought up, this org hasn’t developed a good o-line man in years.

All their best guys have been brought in via FA.

So I honestly have no idea how long it will take Jones to develop, and if he will be developed properly.

Time will tell.

Yeah I was definitely hoping Jones would come in and take the job, but Moore has apparently been impressive in camp while Jones has apparently been pretty inconsistent. LT is probably one of the hardest leaps to make from college to the pros so Jones struggling a bit isn’t any cause for concern.

But if the goal is to protect Pickett, going with Moore at least to start is probably your best bet. They’re going against Bosa, Garrett, and Crosby early on. All those guys would make Jones look silly right now.

I’ll kind of die on the hill that the reason they haven’t been successful with drafting CB is that they just didn’t take them early enough in the draft. Burns and Golson were the only guys drafted in the top two rounds in like 20 years or something before Porter Jr.

Jones only has 19 games at LT, and it was well known he was the most raw of the “big three”.

Watching any film of him, I knew he was going to have to learn better technique and adjust his punch/hands.

If Chuks or Moore stumble, hopefully Jones is ready.

Want to know what really gets under skin? Telling him that Penn State isn’t on the level of Michigan or Ohio State.

One thing I will give this organization credit for is having a destination training camp. You can tell that these guys were just put away with each other for 28 days. The difference in cohesion from Pittsburgh to Buffalo was noticeable.

The amazing thing is that several such as TJ have said that Herbig is a sponge, but that he is teaching them some things.

Here is an article about it:

Let that sink in for a minute.

I remember when Tony Dungy started playing for the Steelers. Everyone said that he was so cerebral that he was a future coach when he retired.

Herbig not only is a hard working freak but also gives off those vibes.

All-Pro Center Mike Webster was called too small to suceed coming out of college.

When asked about it years later he said that he looked a lot taller when the guy was looking up at him after he put him on his ass.

Herbig looks a lot bigger when he blows past the lineman.

Webster was also roided up.

Watching that Warren long TD run again, and I’m about 99% sure Harris gets tackled at about the Bills 40.

Not sure where I stand on the Harris/Warren debate that has been popping up lately, but that Warren run does give me some pause.
