I actually wondered if this is what happened on the final drive against the Browns. Pickett did miss 2 throws badly in that drive, but the 2nd down throw looked like Pickett throwing to no one. It seems like Tomlin is blaming that on a miscommunication between Johnson and Pickett.

That's an issue that I kinda noticed but I didn't really put much thought into it. This team was extremely sloppy offensively and you pretty regularly had miscommunications between Pickett and the WRs. Another example of how awful Canada was.

Good news regardless.

But as has been stated before, the proof is in what comes next.

Is my prediction going to come true and we get another puppet hire who is a clone running some variation of the protect the ball at all costs and let the defense win it "offense"?

Or do Tomlin and Rooney prove that I am an idiot and admit that they were wrong in their philosophy, course correct, and make a legit OC hire that opens up the offense and develops players on that side of the ball?

I would gladly and proudly wear the dunce cap if they do the second option, but I wouldn't hold my breath expecting it.

How many time outs were wasted with 12 men on the field? If anything is unacceptable this late in the season it is forgetting how to count. Twice I think. In one game.

The theme is not miscommunication. Not knowing how to count.

The theme is not being prepared on both sides of the ball. The theme is constant mistakes that go uncorrected game to game.

That is on players and coaches. But mostly, actually almost entirely, on the coaches because it is on them for preparation and consequences.

Even since Steenberger ripped into the lack of preparation he had with the Steelers, I am convinced that a big part of what's been going wrong is that Canada simply didn't teach things well enough and that people didn't know what they were doing well enough.

Which makes him staying this long all the more astonishing.

Good news regardless.

Honestly, I'll take a ball control OC gladly as long as they are competent at this point. I want them to aim at some combination of 49ers/Eagles - run heavy, but aggressive when they throw - but watching Cleveland was a good example of how a conservative offence that doesn't trust their QB can still make things happen through executing the details well. My demands are very low right now.

True but in this case the two are largely the same - preparation and communication, that is. Yes, the MIScommunication happens in real time, but it's because of the poor preparation communication in the first place. The problem has been a lack of cohesive teaching and messaging.

They brought in motion and did a hybrid of Fitchner and Canada offense under Ben
Heck they called plays Haley called this season
Canada job wasn’t to develop KP thats Sulivan who they aren’t happy with and got jumped over by Faulkner

Hahaha- the excuse list just keeps getting better (and longer)
Bravo for sticking to this

It only gets worse from here with TOMLIN hiring more of his bff’s.

This offseason expect all of Tomlin's college roommates to interview for the job

This was at least 10 games too late, but better late than never.

It will be interesting to see whether Pickett now at least attempts to read the defense and find the open guys. I still see nothing special about him but he should get 7 more games this year to show something.

Steelers are signing veteran NFL LB Blake Martinez off the Panthers’ practice squad and on to their 53-man roster, per source.

100% this. A player miscommunicating is a failure of a player, but a trend of miscommunications is a failure of the coaching.

The funny part about the lack of development of KP under Canada was that, unless I am misremembering, wasn't Canada promoted from quarterback coach to OC three years ago?

If he could have done anything right, you would think that developing a QB would be a priority as that literally was his job before being OC. It was in his job title.

Apparently Tomlin didn't bother telling the players Canada got sacked. That's odd, right? I know it was their day off but still, that seems like the sort of thing you drop an email on, right?

For the guy whose entire message board identity is tied to criticizing Mike Tomlin to levy this criticism is quite the toxic combination of a lack of self-awareness and deflection.

Actually you are out of the loop and do not know any better. Maybe you're young and dont know what things were prior to Tomlin.

Honestly though, You should listen to @Mr Jiggyfly .. you might learn something.

Or you can listen to me, I preach similarly. Nothing wrong in that, young one who doesn't know much.

Doubt he would make it to the Steelers on the waiver wire but damn would that fill a need nicely.

Huh? Did something happen or is he injured or something? He was one of the best linebackers in the league early in his career.
