Yes, but he’ll be good to go for next year. Obviously I’d be hesitant to offer him a multi-year contract, but he might not be looking for that given the circumstances of his health.
I feel like they've been middling for so many years now that I either want them to suck really bad until they get a top pick or I want them to at least find someone better than a 35 year old injury-affected Kirk Cousins. He just feels like a very 9-8 type of guy, and that was before the Achilles. He'd go together with Tomlin like peas and carrots.

I've been thinking about this game for a while now...

There's just no way a rational Manager looks at what they just saw and think, yeah this is the coach that will be the best for us. Everything about Sunday's game was just, what the f***.

Tomlin came into the game already making concessions about a team being 2-10 is not one to take lightly, little did we know, what he really meant was "I'm going to coach this team to play worse than a 2-10 team..."

At this point I hope they finally finish without a winning record so Mike finally just leaves himself, to USC or some shit.

They already tried that with Trubisky and Pickett and it blew up in their faces. Why would they try it again 2 years later?

Face it, this team doesn't know how to develop a QB. I'm totally good with them looking for a QB upgrade, but it has to be an established guy. Asking this team to develop a QB is like asking a drug addict to stay sober.
Trubisky was a stupid ass move the moment it happened, it was never a smart signing and even if no one likes Rudy, I would rather go with him as a back-up over wasting time with Trubisky, there's a reason 2 teams gave up on his ass before the Steelers, to sign him showed pure desperation and a lack of direction.

Trubisky and his idiotic tunnel vision just never will be it. I don't even hate Pickett, I think he showed improvement without Canada, albeit a Game and 2Q's worth, but that was enough to show that you know what, maybe this kid can be an ok QB. Unless there's a solid QB on the board, I wouldn't waste top 2 picks on one.

But if they do see one that is worth their while, I would release Trubisky and keep Rudy as the 3rd and put Pickett as the back-up.

The 2023 Steelers are averaging 16 points a game.

16 TDs on offense in 12 games. 2 others by the defense.

This is the lowest scoring Steelers team in 53 years. You have to all the way back to 1970, Bradshaw's rookie year coming off a 1-13 inaugural season for Chuck Noll, to find a team that scored less. This is despite having a guy in Jaylen Warren who is leading the NFL in yards a carry. He is literally the most effective player at his position in the NFL

With the options available, MT was a "good enough" signing. He was flawed, but also was experienced enough to not absolutely crater (typical Tomlin requirement)

MT was intended as the bridge between Ben and whatever rookie they drafted. That bridge is done/crossed and they should cut MT next offseason.

And I also agree that MR should be given a solid look if MT falters (and he will)

Kenny Pickett reportedly had tightrope surgery on his ankle. There’s some history of speedy returns. The fastest I found were Georgia TE Brock Bowers (26 days) and Tua (28 days). But with any procedure, there are no guarantees he’ll be back that quickly.

Huge fan of Josh Yohe’s Steelers takes on Twitter. He’s telling it like it is, and a certain group of people just don’t want to hear it.

I'm super curious to see what the team does if Trubisky stinks in his play time for the rest of this year, in the context of what they'll do this off-season at QB. I've been wondering if the Steelers would bring in another young QB like Fields and just let Pickett and Fields battle it out for the starter's role.

I think Pickett's likely future is that of a fringe starter leader type (someone in that Mariota mold), but I also don't see why the Steelers can't just have him be that for them. I'm not a fan of Fields, but the idea of gambling on Fields while keeping Pickett doesn't sound like too bad of an idea to me.

If we trade for Fields it would be for him as the starter. There would be no battle. Trading the assets to get Fields and not start him would be moronic. Just accept it, Pickett isn’t good enough to be a starter. He has until the end of the season to prove the doubters wrong.

Fields is way better than KP. And I’m not saying he is any better than mediocre at this point but KP is atrocious.

And you have to think of the long game. Fields seems like he can’t win games and maybe that means Tomlin loses a crapton and we finally get free of him.

You're paying extra assets to muddy your QB evaluation. I don't see the appeal.

Tbh, I just don't get this driving urge to try and get Pickett competition. Unless you think competition is suddenly going to unlock Pickett and turn him into superQB, it does nothing for Pickett. Maybe the competition is a better QB, but the best that happens with that is they get a Daniel Jones who needs signing for more than he's worth and who doesn't bring the team closer to being a powerhouse.

Spend the assets on chances of getting game changers elsewhere rather than targeting better brands of failure.

The issue isn't to unlock Pickett. The issue is that you can't throw away another season if Pickett isn't what you and others think/hope/pray he is. You have to have alternatives.

Next season is thrown away already. I don't want to bother wasting assets on trying to fish it out of the bin.

Honestly I wish they'd embrace the tank and trade Watt. Love seeing the guy in a Pittsburgh uniform, but they are so far away from a functional offence they should bite the bullet and rebuild.
