You didnt provide evidence, you provided someone saying they were fired up, and make a logical leap that, that anecdotal post hoc data is evidence.
The BEST case scenario is it is a single data point out of THOUSANDS of games. And thats only IF there is a real causation and not just correlation.
To attribute the reason for the Pats killing the Steelers was because Anthony smith talked shit rather than Anthony smith was a starting safety and couldnt cover, is wild man.
I said it's "A" reason. Not "THE" reason. And that's my point: why give your opponent another thing thats not necessary? It's bulletin board material. And I'll absolutely admit that emotion can only take you so far in a game. But once you run into an opponent that is emotional and they have early success, things can snowball quickly against you. I mean that Bengals game is a great example of where they hit JJ and he fumbled early, setting the tone.
Heck, they even talk about the A Smith thing in the Pats book. All week long BB kept talking about it to his team. The Pats were a fantastic team as it was. They even admit in the book that their game plan was to absolutely humiliate A Smith...to bury him. And during that season, Smith was emerging as very decent S for the Steelers. He was limited in coverage, but still found his way around the ball frequently. So he wasn't some scrub we found off the street. I think he was like a 2nd round pick.
