@Peat -
head vs heart is a good way to put it. Kind of wacky because typically that means you take a guy you think is a stat stuffer over an big ugly lineman and this is the opposite

Actual counting production can be meaningless to NFL success imo. So many guys produced and so many didn’t across so many positions. Washington executed what he was asked to do at a high level to go with the freak size.

I don’t even think his stats are bad- I’d say a 28 catch, 450 yard year (10% of their pass game) is nothing to sneeze at for the second TE in a pro style offense in the SEC. That’s 4th in rec. yards on the Bulldogs despite being used as a blocker. I think that’s why he might go high, definitely could see a team thinking he’s only scratching the surface as a receiver (not sure if I agree).
His size is undeniable - legit Gronk size TE. I mean, I guess if a team w orks him out and deems his production is due to the system, then he's totally worth the risk.

The unfortunate thing if that happens is people will hate the pick but Flowers is actually a really good receiver, and I don't think most realize how good he can be with a legit QB. I really do think in the right situation in the NFL, he's a monster.

Yeah, the Steelers could use another WR, so while I don't think they should take one at 17. It is still a need. Which makes the fact that dude picked JPJ as the "let's enrage the fanbase" pick. Like what? CB is huge need and they pick one of the best in the draft. We would love that pick.

An enraging pick would be picking a QB or RB or way over drafting a S or picking a TE like LaPorta.

I don't feel that way at all. Many mocks have him picked before the Steelers selection.

This doesn't feel like the Harris pick which was basically stated months in advance and every mock had him there.
Your right its not as much of a lock as Harris but feels a lot like Watt. If hes there, hes ours.

Again, I'm hoping/assuming that one of Johnson/Skoronski/Wright or Witherspoon/Porter/Gonzalez is going to be available at 17. I honestly haven't thought much if at all beyond that. Fortunately, I am not an NFL front office. If any of those is available and is not the pick, I'll be disappointed and then probably try and talk myself into loving whoever is.

Wright is really flying up the boards in everything I've seen lately. A few weeks ago he was always there at 32, now he's never there.

Yeah but as I'm not an NFL front office, I don't have to have a contingency if I don't want to. To me, those are six players at two positions of need who would be worthy of selecting with pick 17. That's actually kind of a wide net, as I'm usually of a mind to hope for one or maybe two guys, so it seems to me like something that could actually happen (one of those 6 is available at 17).

Who is falling to make room for Wright?

Banks and both OT Joneses are the next guys at those positions but I'm not sure any of them is worth 17. That said I like them and would be OK drafting them but I'd prefer to get them after 17 if possible.

I’ve seen him mocked to the Steelers quite a bit…the other three tackles will be gone by 17…

I did a mock on PFN and the 49ers offered me Aiyuk, pick 99, and a 2024 2nd for pick 32. Never smashed yes so quick

I'd take that. Could also flip Johnson in this instance because Aiyuk can play outside and slot.

I think a really awesome player is going to be at 17 and we are better off letting it come to us than spending assets to move up. I am in the minority in thinking that there will be one of the 3 LT's there at 17 though. Teams like the Jets have multiple 2nd's and could pick a guy like Harrison or Bergeron there.

Yeah, he's picking up some speed. I sort of take a step back there though because not all tackles are created equal. Unlike Skoronski/Johnson/Jones, Wright is more comfortable on the right side. I would personally like us to take two tackles and just get this offensive line taken care of for the next 10 years and be done with it. I do really light Wright on the right side though. I think he's a plug and play starter.

I think a lot is gonna come down to how many QBs and WRs go before 17. Say all four quarterbacks and both JSN and 1 of TE/Addison go before the Steelers pick I think they’ll get a crack at a top CB/OT.

Conversely, a QB falling to 17 may be the next best case scenario outside of OT/CB falling. I think you’d attract a lot in a trade down if that were to happen with Detroit, Seattle, TB, Minnesota all coming up after the Steelers pick.

On the Darnell Wright front.

That reminds me of an nhl draft where i had 10 players I would love, and I was sure one or more would fall to us.
no. 10 was picked just before our turn to pick.:madfire:

I do find it interesting how we've reached the part of the draft cycle where people are going "hey, hold your horses on these QBs". Someone on The Athletic made the point that you hardly ever get 4 QBs in the top 10, and is this draft really special enough to merit that?

Stroud and Young seem nailed on as the first two in some order.

But after that? It feels like the Colts are really eager to draft a QB and will swing, but there's a ton of reasons not to take Richardson and Levis. It'd make sense for Seattle to take a guy as Geno Smith ain't the future and they won't pick this high again for a while, but only if the guy is worth it. Detroit, Vegas, Atlanta... all teams that would like to do something, but probably aren't seeing it.

Yeah it’s always tough to tell, especially with QBs, how much of the supposed interest is media driven to drum up excitement for the draft. It seems like they’ll go high, but I just can’t see a GM looking at Levis or Richardson and saying “Yeah that’s a guy we want to spend a top 5 pick on”

I’ve even seen a fair amount of rumors that for the Texans, it’s Young or bust and they’ll go with Anderson over Stroud if it comes to that.
