I don’t know if it’s the smartest use of a high pick but D. Washington from UGA and run 12 personnel all day would be awesome to watch.
Darnell Washington is around 40 on the Athletic consensus big board (which I don't entirely trust but best i've got), so we're talking, what, 32, trade down from 32, 49 if you're lucky, maybe a trade up for 49... what beats using one of those two picks that way?
You're in position to get a good IOL or RT. I don't think IOL is needed, although I am a little curious about what the plan is at C if something happens to Cole. RT is something they can use, either cutting Chuks to save money or having some depth at OT. Some depth is a need and if you wait, you're taking a bit of a gamble on a development project, so kind of need to pull the trigger there unless you're happy to take a veteran/gamble.
You're in a position to get a good CB and I think they need to get one unless they trust Witherspoon again, although it feels like this year you'll probably have some available in the 3rd round.
You're in a position to get a good DL, but I think there might be some available in the 3rd, and the guy you draft in the 2nd is probably a rotational guy at this stage. Maybe starting nose tackle?
You're in a great position to get a RB but we don't need don't need one, WR but Washington would mean not needing one, forget QB...
ILB? Need and position kinda line up but you can probably get just a rotational piece with potential in later rounds and maybe that's all they need. Someone like Daiyan Henley.
Safety, dunno when you look to draft those.
So... early pick seems fair for a TE in general. Team need feels like it's not an outrageous use of a pick.
I feel like it an ideal world the team gets good value at OT and CB with the first two picks. After that? It seems pretty legit.
I do think the team needs to do something about ILB - even if its just bringing back Edmunds and continuing to use him a lot as a hybrid when needed - but once they do that, I feel like that's the only gap where I'd feel nervous about them not plugging it in the draft ahead of a second TE.
So... yeah. I'm down. Feels like it makes real sense, and not just "screw it all, I wanna see a ton of massive guys for lulz".
