I had no idea this was going on. I should start watching a little USFL.

The Maulers play for the USFL's North Division title at 8 p.m. Saturday, at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. They play the Michigan Panthers in the division's championship game, with the winner advancing to the USFL title game.

Maulers win. Going to the league championship next week. Pretty entertaining game, actually.

The NFL family is deeply saddened by the passing of Ryan Mallett. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.

Sad story. I can relate a bit since I lost my dad to a drowning accident a little over 20 years ago.

That game when Mallett was on the Ravens and he beat the Steelers is hard to forget in a bad way from a Steelers perspective. The Steelers have had their share of games where they've played down to their competition under Tomlin but that is certainly a memorable example.

RIP.

The riptides are apparently really bad in the gulf right now. I spend quite a bit of time down there because that is where my in-laws live. When walking into the water, riptides appear to be the best place to get into the water because there are no waves - quite the contrary. There are no waves because the water is going out.

The Steelers have played in more one score games (150) than any other NFL team in the Mike Tomlin era.

That's about 9.3 games per year.

Team that has played the least (the Pats) played in 107 of them (slightly less than 7 per year average).

It's no wonder we have so many injuries

So Watt being injured was the reason?......

Do you think Watt is in if we're up (or down)by multiple scores?

The point that is being missed, is if you play on the margins, you play your top players more. Playing them more increases their chances of injury.

This is what a Mediocre Mike team will always do: keep it close to the vest and hope things break your way.

Well in the first game of the year, things didn't break their way with Watt going down.

I think your creating a point where none exist.

There is plenty of legitimate criticism for any coach, but you played a close game week 1 against the division favorites and a good player got injured. Isnt one of them.

Good players play, except in huge blowouts. Adding a couple points to make those 2 score games wouldnt make a difference in playing time.

I think coaches pull star players when the game is generally out of reach. And those that don't, I completely disagree with that philosophy

There is a BIG gap between one score games and being out of reach.

Most games that are one score games fit into that area. Starters play in that area.

Multiple scores can be 10 points. Do you feel if the Steelers are up or down by 10 points, no matter the time of the game that TJ Watt should be sitting on the bench? I sure don't except for some extreme cases like the other team is in victory formation.

And also equating that the score of a game some how correlates to injury would require some high level data crunching. I'm willing to bet their is zero correlation. But I love looking at a good set of data and great chart. Show your work and let's discuss. :)

Watt being injured maybe made the difference between one more win and the playoffs. Maybe. The Steelers lost games for many reasons.

The Steelers not making the playoffs did the team a favor.

True, Ghengis Khan played the draft like a Stradivarius violin. But he was in position to do so because the Steelers picked 14.

He traded up to 14 from 17 if they made the playoffs they would have picked 18 or 19th and still trade up to 14. Kinda like they tried to trade from 20-15 to get Pickett the year before.

Now trading Claypool so you had 2nds and having Washington fall to the 3rd because of injury we’re thanks to Khan

Yeah, riptides are scary and no joke, I lost my older brother in a riptide accident last August on vacation in Nags Head, NC. They come out of nowhere and if you lose you're baring and get pulled under it's pretty much game over.
