I totally agree with the structure. Thinking someone can be the best at everything is ridiculous in this day and age. So I am glad they want to form a capable team of experts.
On the fan this morning they had Ray Fittipaldo, and he stated that they would like to have Khan, Wiedl and then keep Brandon Hunt and bring in Doug Whaley as a consultant.
It's not about being the best at everything. It's about chain of command, and trusting the people "beneath" you, IE the scouting people, folks on the ground floor who are putting in the leg work. Adding faux titles and more people to manage shit is a recipe for disaster.
So now we have Omar Khan, who will be given title of GM and yet still manage the cap/money aspect of the team, which is basically what he does now, with Andy Weidl AND Sheldon White handling player personnel. Who makes the call on draft day? Mike Tomlin? Seems to me he's most likely to now take control over that major aspect of team building given Khan is not a player personnel guy and a 2 headed assistant GM post doesn't sound like the spot where the buck stops.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will have a new general manager and assistant general manager soon. Additionally, the team has more outsiders slated to be added to the front office as well, according to Wednesday morning reports. More #Steelers front office moves: former #Lions VP of Player Personnel...

White's son is the WR of the same last name on the roster. Weidl has local ties.
White's track record is mainly with the Detroit Lions. An incredible franchise to pull player personnel from.
This is also a microcosm of why government doesn't work as it's intended. Too many people pulling the strings. The bigger the committee, the longer/harder issues are to resolve and generally speaking, the more issues you have as a raw total to deal with.
The Steelers are completely moving away from what made them one of the best/most stable franchises in the league. This has been non stop ever since Dan Rooney become too incompetent to run the team and Art (whatever # we're on now) took over.
