Got hammered. Drove. Was clearly still drunk with the sun already out which is just sad, and got hit while stumbling down a highway. Also, woman in the car. Not his wife.

But he was such an amazing soul and great person, blah, blah, blah.

You do know people can be both an amazing person and have issues?

Sad is what it is.

So, it was a bad idea to basically be drunk and under the form of mild anesthesia at 7 am while driving/walking across a highway? I’m glad no one else got hurt due to his recklessness.

So much for getting an early start for practice. Lots of the initial reactions portraying him as a saint aged poorly.

Those in the media that glorified this guy’s character should lose their jobs.

I dunno, man. I work in a field that deals with these types of incidents daily (substance abuse, DUI’s, etc.). It’s hard to feel bad when someone causes their own problems due to their actions.

However, I’ve also known several people who are great individuals outside of their alcoholism and/or substance use. I don’t think he deserved to die over this and I’m not going to call him an awful human due to this, either.

We didn’t know the guy…at all. Only what his issues were. I’m not saying feel bad, but I’m guessing that old saying about people who live in glass houses probably holds true with some who are mocking the guy.

I don’t recall any media people making Haskins out to be a saint - seems like some around here are making shit up to hate on a guy they don’t know.

All I recall is people saying Haskins was loved by his teammates and others who knew him thought he was a nice guy.

Haskins had his demons like all of us, that doesn’t make him a scumbag or lowlife. You can be an alcoholic and still be kind to others.

Cheating on your wife and driving drunk isn’t something I will condone, but thankfully he didn’t hurt anyone.

Ultimately he paid the most severe price - and the guy who hit him I’m sure will be unwell for yrs.

Wasn't part of the reason he got booted from Washington because he was at a strip club during covid motorboating a strippers ass? I mean, I think running across traffic drunk is pretty tame compared to what he probably did ordinarily.

A lot of my boys lived at strip clubs and dated strippers when we were in our 20s

Many of them were alcoholics as well. Did other things that were questionable.

I wouldn’t say they were scum bags though, most were good guys to those that knew them.

Now cross them and that’s a different story, but kind of goes into my overall point.

Khan is kind of surprising to me but he’s been around the organization for a long time. Weidl seems like a really solid hire for assistant GM though.

I totally agree with the structure. Thinking someone can be the best at everything is ridiculous in this day and age. So I am glad they want to form a capable team of experts.

On the fan this morning they had Ray Fittipaldo, and he stated that they would like to have Khan, Wiedl and then keep Brandon Hunt and bring in Doug Whaley as a consultant.

It's not about being the best at everything. It's about chain of command, and trusting the people "beneath" you, IE the scouting people, folks on the ground floor who are putting in the leg work. Adding faux titles and more people to manage shit is a recipe for disaster.

So now we have Omar Khan, who will be given title of GM and yet still manage the cap/money aspect of the team, which is basically what he does now, with Andy Weidl AND Sheldon White handling player personnel. Who makes the call on draft day? Mike Tomlin? Seems to me he's most likely to now take control over that major aspect of team building given Khan is not a player personnel guy and a 2 headed assistant GM post doesn't sound like the spot where the buck stops.

White's son is the WR of the same last name on the roster. Weidl has local ties.

White's track record is mainly with the Detroit Lions. An incredible franchise to pull player personnel from.

This is also a microcosm of why government doesn't work as it's intended. Too many people pulling the strings. The bigger the committee, the longer/harder issues are to resolve and generally speaking, the more issues you have as a raw total to deal with.

The Steelers are completely moving away from what made them one of the best/most stable franchises in the league. This has been non stop ever since Dan Rooney become too incompetent to run the team and Art (whatever # we're on now) took over.

The last time we took a player personnel guy from Lions sure turned out to be a total disaster.

Awful logic.

Too many chefs, not enough cooks.

The best teams of the last 2 decades don't operate this way. A gaggle of execs where before there were few.

Art is structuring the FO to fail, largely due to the structure itself. It ensures consensuses will be harder to reach and the chances that the voices/reports of the people doing the leg work will be over scrutinized.

I totally agree with this. You would rather roll the dice on finding "the guy" as a GM and hope he works then some muddled committee approach.

Doubt Omar Khan is making the major decisions moving forward. Money is on Mikey T. Khan is a numbers guy and is being rewarded for 2 decades of service. There is a reason why they brought in not 1, but 2, AGM's. Will there still be a Director of Player Personnel below the AGMs? What other positions are going to be added?

Simply creating extra positions in which information must filter through, is an asinine practice in business.

You pick the one right tool for each level in terms of leadership.

Brandon Hunt and Omar Khan were assistant GM's under Kevin Colbert.......

You are acting like they went from one all seeing pope like GM who did everything to what they have now. When they are basically going have the same structure.

Khan is awesome with the cap. That’s the main reason I’m glad he stayed. Also he worked under Colbert for years, so I’m assuming the philosophy is relatively the same as well.

Seriously this isn’t some crazy front office structure. Khan’s background is a little unique for a GM but it’s not totally unheard of. Mickey Loomis had a similar profile and the Saints have been doing just fine.
