Tomlin didn’t push for Edmonds lol if he had his way they would have drafted Lamar and told Ben to enjoy retirement after the Jacksonville playoff los

when did tomlin say he wanted to draft jackson?
or instead of draftng edmunds, why didn't he draft one of the 15 or so players taken after him that have made a bigger impact then edmunds has on their teams.
retirement for ben after the jax loss huh. yeah, i'm sure another team wouldn't have been interested in him in 2018.

but enough of this fantasy land thinking. the reality is when ben went down and was out for the year at the age of 37, they could have very well been positioned for a franchise QB like herbert, tua or even borrow with some luck in the following draft.
instead they doubled down and traded that pick for yet another piece to an already stacked with talent and pedigree tomlin defense, to go .500 with mason or duck
that now gave him 7 first rounders (cam, tj, bud, bush, haden, fitz, edmunds) with tuiit drafted in the mid 2nd. and that's not even counting Alualu and the signing of a tier 2 free agent like nelson.
why does it take so many players with high pedigree for a "great coach" to make into a top unit

Because they are never going to rebuild and saw chance to get Minka a guy the loved in the draft but knew they couldn’t get him dirt cheap. Mcvvay has a ton of 1st round picks on defense and offense. It’s no secret Tomlin wanted Lamar it’s why he loves Willis. Edmonds has been a solid starter

Any rookie they draft will sir behind Mason Ben sat behind Maddox they aren’t going to ruin the rookie before he is ready. If they skip rookie and go Mason tribsky Weintz once cut and invest in the oline and defense depth they will win 10 games. They aren’t going to throw a season they by rebuilding even if they are doing it in front of us

Trubisky is Mason-level as a thrower. Like, he can execute plays if guys are schemed open. If they aren't, he may struggle. Not sure he throws as accurate of a deep ball as Mason but he more than makes up for it with his mobility/explosiveness.

All told he would be a bottom-third QB but better than Mason and better than Ben once the 1.7-second-pass gimmick was figured out in December 2020. If he costs $5-8M, why not.

I’m liking Ridder. I’d rather take a stab at him a little later and grab OL in round 1.

I can’t tell if the Steelers are going to half-ass the QB situation or make a splash. I just hope they are not under the assumption that any QB on the roster now has a future as a starter.

I understand the hesitation some have about Malik Willis. He needs a lot of development but he's the only QB in this class with elite traits (high end runner and huge arm). That's why he'll get picked high. Sure he might ultimately be a bust but I think you swing for the fences in the draft with QB's. I'd rather swing for the fences and miss on a high upside QB than take a safer QB prospect and get stuck with some mediocrity. Even if you hit on that safer QB pick you'll always be looking for an upgrade over him anyway.

Josh Allen was not accurate in college. His last two seasons of college football he posted completion percentages of only 56%. He got better coaching at the pro level that fixed some of his mechanics and he's developed into a superstar. I think Willis can improve with better coaching as well. He only started two seasons in college. He's still pretty raw but there's a lot to work with.

Exactly. You have to kind of evaluate these guys that come from colleges like Liberty and North Dakota State differently because they aren't playing with high quality talent. Everything I've read about Willis has said he is a good kid who is coachable. I think the accuracy can be fixed. You cannot teach his speed or arm.

With that being said, I want us to take Trevor Penning or Jordan Davis. The true best case scenario for us is the Stingley's injuries push him down the board. He would probably help the cause the most.

No way Stingley makes it out of the top 7.

And I agree, Penning or Davis is my pick. I sort of really want Davis just because it would be fun to watch a DL of Tuitt-Davis-Heyward.

My small chance guy because he drops is Trent McDuffie. If he is there I am taking him over Davis or Penning.

And my 3rd round sneak pick has been blown up by the combine. Skyy Moore had 3rd round sneak pick by the Steelers. That 2nd-3rd WR pick that they make every year that pays dividends.

Some of this will obviously change after Free Agency. I think they can get some good players on the OL through free agency and that could lessen the need to draft one in the first round.

They are like a ton of teams they are in Qb limbo the colts want to move on from Weintz after a 27 td 7 interception season and dumped 2 1st on him. Washington is willing to go all in but can’t find a dance partner will be left with Jimmy g or Winston. Tribsky most likely goes to the giants to compete with DJ now they have his oc as coach and aren’t picking up his 5th year option. Carolina and Denver would sell their souls for a Qb

Penning first round, Phidarian Mathis second round.

Jordan Davis is a two-down NT. You don't use a first on a guy like that, IMO.

NT is not a position you really need a star level player, just a guy who eats the middle and lets the guys around him make plays. Mathis can give you that on all three downs. plus bonus pass rush (had 9 sacks last year for Bama). Physically he's an ideal DL. Long and wide bodied. Has some technique things to work out but nothing uncoachable.

If we're waiting on a QB, I'd rather have Howell.
from what I've seen from deferent draft sites in ranking qb's, is that they are interchangeable (and not that high) so taking one later may not be a bad idea. (unless you have one ranked much higher)

Big Snack disagrees with you and so do I. :D

I do get what you are saying. But then I remember how much Hampton would lock down other teams running game and how that would make them very one dimensional. I know the league is different than then, but making a team one dimensional still holds true.

Having a guy who is consistently dominant enough to eat up the middle and take up multiple blockers is easier said than done. If Davis is there, I'd be happy to take him.

He seems to be the combine darling this year, though, so some team will probably jump on him.

Casey Hampton was in there as much as the scheme needed him to be until later in his career when age and a lack of his fitness took him out for plays.

And it certainly was a different league in the 2000s. Hampton was the 5th DT taken in his draft. Today he probably wouldn't be a first round pick

No. You don't use a first on a guy who wasn't even a 3-down player in college

Davis' 40-time is fun and call but it's trivial. Don't get caught up in the nonsense hype

They are more likely to draft and hargrave than Hampton Heyward is going to continue to transition to NT as he gets older and louder mouth develops if ADams is back I don’t think they draft d line early and you can get the UConn run stuffing jones later

I'm not getting caught up in his 40 time. You can check my posts. I was saying I'd be happy to take him before the combine. I'm saying other teams are going to get caught up in his 40 time and he's probably going to be taken higher now. So he probably won't be there by the time the Steelers are picking.

And I fundamentally disagree. A dominant NT has a massive trickle down effect on the rest of the defense. It's worth a first if it's the right guy.

how many teams still are using the 3-4? i don't follow other teams that much so i don't know, just asking.

You want to overdraft a guy based on other teams maybe wanting him?

I don't understand where this idea is coming from that Davis is some kind of super, can't-miss talent at NT. He's just a big guy who can move. But he has leverage issues and doesn't have the chops to play all three downs.

I said Phidarian Mathis would play the position well and gives you 3-down ability and more of a pass rush. Ergo, I think Mathis will be a better pro and is better suited to the modern game
