Yes, but I'm saying that the Steelers are enamored with Pitt guys. Canada's greatest coaching success came at Pitt.

Hell, with the Louis Riddick reaction we got to Pickett tonight, would it shock anyone if he was Colbert's successor?
Louis wants the job and is a Pitt grad I would expect nothing else than him to be estatic lol

I think the Carr/Dalton/Tannehill comparisons for Pickett are all fair, I just don't think those comparisons are really a negative towards Pickett.

Taking a guy with a late 1st rounder who's a safe bet to become a middle of the pack starting QB seems fairly reasonable to me. The kind of QBs you get with a 1st rounder around #20 overall are either safer picks or big boom/bust guys. You're either getting a safer guy in the Dalton or Carr mold or a massive boom/bust guy like Jackson (boom) or Manziel (bust) with that kind of pick.

Which is an extremely fair take.

And the most likely scenario. That he becomes an average NFL quarterback.

The one quibble that I have is with the current NFL notion that you need to be Lamar Jackson to be an elite quarterback in today's NFL.

I would argue that a quarterback that has Pickett's size and skills could be an elite quarterback as well. Likely? No. But the NFL are sheep that follow the last truism until the mold is broken again. It blinds them to possibilities when they are hit over the head with them.

Pickett is the safest quarterback in this draft.

But that does not mean that he has no chance to be elite.

That’s the point they already had Mitch who they liked enough to sign on day 1 and they didn’t like Pickett since they called about moving down. Mitch was supposed to be the safe pick the Dalton type if you were going to draft a guy it needed to be a boom or bust guy you have Lamar Watson and burrow in the division so we have the worst QB in the division even if Pickett is the guy. Pickett isn’t going to beat Allen Maholmes Wilson Herbert

They called about moving up, not about moving down.

Trubisky is a stopgap that they're hoping can be fine until Pickett takes over. He was never a long-term solution.

Colbert said they called about moving down in his press conference and they called about moving up.
Tomlin said Mason Mitch and Pickett will compete for the job that means they don’t have a Qb

No he didn't.

He was asked about moving up with the context of the Saints being in front of them. Some teams from below them called about trading up ("we had people calling us from the bottom") and teams from above them called about trading back ("we had people calling to trade down to our spot, and us trading up to their spot").

Interesting article about the so-called weakness of this quarterback class is overblown.

One point. Pickett rated at 90 which placed him 14th in the class regardless of position tied with 8 other players. So the pick was hardly a reach. 14 to 22 regardless of position.

The other point is that while most other classes had a couple of quarterbacks rated slightly higher than 90 this class had better depth of their top five rating higher than most.

Here's hoping they're right.

I wish they'd traded down with the Chiefs and picked him there, none of the teams between us and 29OA wanted a QB and I can't really see any potential suitors that coulda jumped in (maybe Seattle) but oh well.

Well Mason, enjoy getting a fair shot somewhere else. Best of luck mate.

Didn't he Snub Trubisky after the invite he got to workout with him this off-season?

He thinks he's like Brett Favre or something. Or it's that Clown mentality, thinks hes like really good but he's really not, just like Tomlin thinks he's special.

Also my favourite part about reading this thread after a very hasty scan of the draft results was all the "WTF Hollywood Brown trade" posts and I was going "Haha, imagine getting Hollywood and AJ confused you sillies, nobody would trade a 1st for him", and then "wait a minute" and I double checked and holy shit, somebody really was that silly

Tomlin bought himself a little leeway with this pick in my books (not that he cares).

KP is a talented kid you can win with - but he obviously has to be developed right. I’d be lying if I said I believed in Tomlin and Canada to do it well, but I’m stoked about the possibilities now.

They have some really exciting young building blocks on O with KP, Harris and Muth.

Maybe they find a stud receiver in round two and we have a set of young quadruplets to follow.

Their future feels way less bleak than it did 24 hrs ago.

Gotta think AB is sitting at home wondering if someone can trade for him even though he is a free agent

'Safe'. 'High floor'. 'NFL ready'. Those were some of the assessments I remember from when they drafted Watt. That turned out alright. I still don't love the pick, but I've talked myself into being hopeful. I don't think I could have done that with Willis.

A WR in R2 would be alright, but from a needs standpoint, I'd rather D-line.
