People in Spain (winner of the last World Cup and the last two Euro Cups) will tell you that the real football to watch is in La Liga, not the Premier League. This is mostly because of the rivalry between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, who currently have the world's currently recognized two best players, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo respectively. My biased opinion would be for you to jump on the Real Madrid bandwagon
, but the Premier League might be easier to follow from USA.
Not sure about NBC because I'm in Europe now, but yeah, Premier League started today. Supporters of the Premier League will say that it's a more balanced league with many competent teams (Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City, Man U, Chelsea, Tottenham) versus the top-heavy talent of Madrid and Barca in La Liga.
