I support Liverpool, but I keep it a secret because I don't want to be publicly associated with Mark Madden.

Well that's odd. The AP just published its preseason rankings, but I don't see Pitt on there anywhere. Must be a misprint... or maybe I need to look for the honorable mentions section.

Encouraging first 45 for United.

If we could get a creative midfielder and a ball winner I think we would be very well set. Cleverley doesnt do it for me, I dont think he offers enough and Giggs should only really be an impact sub.

Cleverly's a good player but he's not someone you can build a midfield around yet and might not ever be.

Agreed.
United are not good enough in the centre to keep hold of the ball, they just seem to keep giving it away and inviting pressure.

Seen it so many times .. you would think it would have been addressed by now. Still waiting for a nice signing.

I just started watching last spring. I support Spurs and like Villa.

I thought for sure Swansea had it. Van Persie is class.

Isco was clutch today for Real Madrid, definitely considering getting his jersey. The kid's going to be a star one day. I wanted to go to the game but settled for watching it at a local bar - always a great atmosphere with late goals.

Any Spurs fans wanna weigh in on the Gareth Bale situation? Everyone here in Madrid is patiently waiting for transfer news.

Bale to Real must go through...
This will hopefully release up with Ozil or Modric for United

I'm a huge Kaká fan and will also take some forward named Ronaldo off your hands as well. ;)

I saw Barcelona with a 7-nil win. Although I'm United 100%, I prefer Real over Barcelona.

i wish i could become interested in soccer, but i find it incredibly difficult to be a fan of a non-Pittsburgh team.

would be cool if the Riverhounds ever made it to the MLS.

We have so many OT threads guys... we can't do another. Let's move this into an OT Pittsburgh thread already or even just the OT thread.

And the reason is... most of the admin don't want the OT talk staying on the board anyway when we have full threads on the 2nd page dedicated to it. Let's move this to an OT thread stickied above.

Agreed.

The Pirates have their own thread during baseball season because of the extremely long schedule and the fact that we fill up 1-6 pages per game. The other sports don't have such daily activity. I fully endorse more soccer discussion (and yes, I do and forever will call it soccer...if the English want to look down on me for using that term than they shouldn't have invented it themselves in the first place)...but there isn't enough discussion on this board to warrant yet another OT sports thread - two is enough.

It took me a long time to get into soccer, and even then I'm only a casual fan at the club level (die-hard at the international level, though, which has helped guide some interest on which clubs to root for...though players move around so much it's really hard to get consistency...Dempsey being on my favorite English side, Tottenham Hotspur, for only a year kinda sucked).

The MLS has made huge strides in general over the past decade, and I started to get into it because of the Sounders being televised in Montana...but it took having a team with a legitimate rooting interest for me to really get into it. Go Galaxy.

Oh yeah, and Real can kiss my fat white ass. They don't deserve Bale :)

You're going to take this thread down? :shakehead

Anyway...I doubt Bale will be sold to Madrid. 99% of the stories are made up BS with no sources or direct quotes. If Spurs bring in someone else, I bet they could challenge for the title.

Who gets relegated?

I'll say:
Hull
Stoke
Palace.

I think Hull can hack it against lesser teams and possibly stay up. Palace has a lack of speed.

I have tried really hard to get into soccer. I just cannot do it. I can appreciate the skillset these guys have. All you have to do is play the game to know how truly hard it is. It's impossible for me to watch though.

Even my soccer playing friends have a really hard time watching it on the tube. Wouldn't mind at all going to Europe and seeing a game though.

when do premiere league games actually start on NBCSN? Today? Also, who should I care about? Does Pittsburgh have a televised team :sarcasm: seriously I have never followed a non-Pittsburgh sports team in any capacity but I'd love to get into premiere league.

Are you the guy on football forums complaining about relegation and such?

I'd have to say the biggest kick to the rear in my soccer interest was seeing an AGF game in person.

Mid-level Danish match, pretty uneventful 1-1 game...but the atmosphere was absurd. Had I gone to a game a couple months later that may have changed...AGF started red hot that season only to wind up being relegated. Bonus points to AGF for employing a US National Team player at the time, Benny Feilhaber.

The one thing that did suck, though, was that I had planned to go to a Barcelona game...but the one week that I was able to pull off my Catalonia/Andorra trip was an off-week for Barça...couldn't even get the experience of watching a road game at a bar. Now that would have been an experience. I didn't get to a second soccer game until this past December...when I watched the LA Galaxy have a second half comeback to win the MLS Cup...not too shabby of a first MLS experience :D

edit: Might as well get the rooting interests out there.
MLS: LA Galaxy - My #1 team, started by Landon Donovan and cemented by, you know, moving here. The Sounders and Timbers hold a special place in my heart, though, Seattle being the team that got me to give the MLS any sort of attention and the Timbers for being in Portland...which is where I'd be living if not for the fact that I'm trying to follow a dream here in LA. I love that city.
Denmark: AGF Aarhus - I lived in Aarhus for a six months.
England: Tottenham Hotspur - My first favorite team, basically chosen because I'd never actually met a fan before and I had an instant disdain for the larger teams there (it's too easy to be an American Man U. fan).
Spain: Barcelona FC - I reverse that stance in Spain, but I do have an emotional connection with Barcelona that I don't have with anywhere in England at least. Orwell & Gaudí, baby. Barcelona is my kind of town. Also I ****ing hate Cristiano Ronaldo, so there's that.
Germany: Bayern Munich - My motherland, of sorts. My paternal heritage is 100% Bavarian.

Isco was a fantastic signing for you guys. I'm a Liverpool fan, but I'll throw my 2 cents in on Bale and also Suarez. I don't see Bale going to you guys. If he goes anywhere it'll surely be Real, but that's too much money to spend on an inferior player (compared to Ronaldo). Suarez will still be at least 45 million Euros, but I think it's a better move for you guys. The midfield is stacked already and I don't think Morata is ready for an expanded role just yet. Additionally Suarez has expressed interest in playing for Real. Ideally I'd like to see him stay with Liverpool, but I see him leaving us at the transfer deadline. People have been critical of Real for not signing Neymar, so much so that they've overlooked the Isco signing. As of right now Real has the 2nd best team in the world (behind Bayern) in my opinion.

Cedrick was great against Real yesterday. Ronaldo looked like he wanted to smash Benzema's face off the post.

Well over the years I've started hating the Ravens a lot more, so Steelers are safe. To bes honest I don't really hate the Steelers despite being a Pats fan, maybe it's because we mostly always win :D :p:

The Steelers game plan against the Patriots up until 2011 was to relentlessly bash their heads against a concrete wall until the score was something like 30-3 Patriots. Then the Steelers would finally realize "Oh crap, Ben can you help us." He'd put up some points, make the final score look a little more respectable, but really it was too little too late.

When they actually used Ben early and often against the Patriots in 2011, the Steelers won. Funny how that works.

I know you have the "video" evidence to back that up, so I won't disagree with you.
