I don't understand the strong negative reaction to Smith :dunno:

As an OC, his team finished 10th and 4th in points. Because he handed the ball off to Henry? OK, but why wouldn't you when Henry is your best player? And those 2 years were Henry's career highs in yards, TD's, and Y/A. They were also by far Tannenhill's best years, to the point you might even call them outliers. Given the roster makeup (particularly the QB's) and the head coach, a run heavy, play-action type of offense that has the potential to still put up a lot of points makes a lot sense actually.

I'd prefer someone from the Shanahan tree, especially looking towards the future if/when they decide that Pickett ain't it, but I think they could do a lot worse than Smith.

Lamar has absolutely been a letdown from what I can see.

Just no rhythm to Baltimore's offense.

It's crazy watching all these teams with great offenses play well and compete in the Playoffs... having a chance at least.

We had the killer B's and Tomlin just f***in wilted... got smacked by shitty teams.
The "B" playing QB regularly wilted in the playoffs

Quick question; Does Tomlin go for it on 4th down at his own 30 yard line like Baltimore did to get 7 points?

Maybe he’s a guy who just is better as an OC and things take a hit when he’s the HC but he went all galaxy brained in Atlanta and went away from the idea that it’s good to give the ball to your best players.

As I said earlier in this thread, simply looking at an OC's team rank in PPG doesn't tell the whole picture, but TEN ranked 10th and 4th in PPG during Arthur Smith's 2 years. Granted, they had prime 2k Derrick Henry lol. As a HC in ATL, his offenses have been bad/middling.

Was hired by Mike Munchak (maybe he comes back too?) and worked for Ken Whisenhunt, so I'm willing to ben Rooney has a favorable opinion of him. Bleh. Probably preached running the football and having balance in his interview.

They had the killer Bs but their DBs were a weak link and their D completely imploded after their best defensive player got injured in 17. I think they had a chance to do something if Shazier stayed in. They still haven't replaced him!

My fear is that we try and emulate that running attack and we just get a watered down version since our OL is bad and Najee isn't prime Derrick Henry.

The flip side is they could get a McVay or Shanahan guy and get an even more watered down version of THAT because they don't have a starting quarterback and don't seem intent on finding one.

Dick Lebeau's defenses weren't very good when he was the HC in Cincy. Doesn't mean he wasn't a great DC.

A bad line is going to give you a watered down version of any offense.

It's just a very predictable and boring hire. "Stay the course" as they continue to double down on what worked in the past. What excited people about the idea of hiring a Zac Robinson or Kliff Kingsbury (even though we apparently never even interviewed him) was that it was viewed as a departure from the status quo.

EDIT: f*** the Ravens!

Honestly. These playoffs will have only emboldened Tomlin’s philosophy.

KC is going to the SB after scoring 17 points in the conference championship game and has leaned on thier running game and defense all season.

And the four teams that are in the conference championship games were ranked 3,4,5 & 8th in YPC.

Don’t get me wrong. They still have Mahomes. But this season and playoffs is especially because of thier defense.
