CB's and WR's are far deeper in rounds two and three. I just don't wanna try to get cute with a position like that when there's a guy or two available who can be a mainstay for over a decade.

I thought the plan was to move Jones to LT. Heard it repeatedly, from Steeler ''insiders''. Kaboly, Dulac
Maybe 20 years ago but with the philosophical shift towards passing, you're seeing way more DB's and WR's go off the board earlier. I think we're going to see 7-8 1st round WR's this year and that's going to be the trend most years going forward.

I also think people here are overrating JPJ just a tad here. I'm by no means some OL film grinder, but the general consensus I've seen around him is "plus starter" and not "can't miss franchise C". He's not even Daniel Jeremiah's top C this year.

Just think there's more valuable positions than C round 1, especially when it looks like there's a few good ones in this class.

Who does DJ prefer Barton?

Tomlin said Moore wasn't good enough at RT to play there last season. Both he and Khan have pointedly not committed to Jones starting next season at LT. Moore starting next season at LT feels live.

In his defence, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but while he put up some of the worst pass blocking grades in football last year he did it with some of the hardest assignments. He faces a murderer's row and I don't think the Steelers helped him as much as previous years. I don't want to bet on his continued improvement, but it wouldn't super surprise me.

Mainly I just don't want to bet on Jones at RT, but I don't get what I want so I'm bracing for it.
I think Jones will go to LT. Will see what moves if any we make to dress OT. What would they do with Moore then? Move him inside or have him on the bench?

Ok I may have misspoke. In his top 50 prospects ranking he has JPJ 29, Frazier 32, Barton 34. But going by his Combine grades, he has the highest grade on Barton.
My preferences in round 1 based on reality as to who might be there at 20 are:

1 .JPJ For need
2. Mitchell very talented CB
3. Mims, Georgia, obvious fit here.

I'd be happy with anyone of the three but in particular JPJ or Mitchell.

If Brian Thomas and JPJ are both available at 20 (unlikely), I’d be a little upset if they passed on Thomas.

Assuming Moore doesn't make a major transformation as a RT, then bench. Can't see him displacing Seumalo.

Tbh, if they were dead set intent on having Jones play LT, then trading Moore would seem an obvious move. Sure he's nice depth, but turning depth into picks is a frequent move.

Is Barton for sure a center? I know basically nothing about him outside of people saying that’s where he’ll play at the next level, but did he play there much at Duke?

I’d be a little concerned about taking a center high that may or may not be able to play center after seeing the Kendrick Green experiment (even though he seems like 10x the prospect green was). And with his arm length there’s pretty much no chance the Steelers see him as a tackle.

At the same time we can't roll with someone who couldn't beat out Mason Cole. We need to get a FA.
I remember what a disaster Kendrick Green was at center. I just don't wanna go through that sort of thing again. If they think Center is an afterthought or not a priority that IMO would be a huge mistake. Not saying they thing along those lines but I wouldn't take the Center position for Granted.

Because Lazard isn't very good and is overpaid.
Unless someone really fits what you want and is decidedly better than the FA's you're looking into you stay in free agency to add. Why lose assets when you don't have to?

Played mostly LT at Duke but most people think he'll be drafted as a C. Short arms.

They want him to be LT, but they don't have a RT because Moore can't play RT.

Moore isn't very good at LT and moving him out of position is going to make it worse. Maybe like @Peat said, the competition is a littler easier, but that's gonna be negated by being out of position. So you're still left with not very good.

It'd be great if we could add a WR in free agency as well as a Tackle but don't know if any good ones are available.

Khan has his work cut out for him.

Barton made 5 starters at Center as a freshman. The fact he was going to go to the Senior Bowl as a Center is a plus, because it says he's aware of what's coming next and embraces it. But only so much of a plus.

He is meant to be a lot more ready than Green. Nevermind the positional thing, Green shouldn't have been a first year starter. Barton is allegedly a lot closer.

But yeah, that one haunts me too and I'd feel a little nervy if it was Barton as a result.

Ta. Pro Football Reference was being real annoying for me.

Williams has all the talent but he's a sicknote with big fitness issues going into next season. Allen, by my understanding, has a lot less of the talent but is also a sicknote.

And Bozeman is a guy I wasn't aware of and looks cautiously promising, although it looks like Pro Football Reference thinks he's a far better Guard than Center.

I think the Steelers are committed to the draft here.
I think the sign a guy who can start at c and move to guard. Issac will be 31 next year and a free agent in 25. Daniel is a free agent this offseason but 27 so he gets the extension

That's a sexy pick, might not be the most practical.
I think it would be very practical. 1st round draft capital is better spent on WR than C. He would be Pickens future replacement once it’s time to pay him/he wants to leave.

That said, I would be happy with either player or a T.

I hope not. It would be nice if they could draft an OL to play in his strongest position and leave him there. I know there's potential for the Steelers to need a guard soon, but that can be accomplished be signing or drafting a guard.

Green was Colbert/Tomlin trying to outsmart the room by drafting a guard at center. Maybe this year they draft a center at center.

I'm really leaning toward a free agent C and a mid round picks, while going tackle in the 1st

No i mean they will sign a stop gap c who buts the rookie a year then when the rookie round 2 c or 3 is ready the fa c moves to g. I don’t think c at 20 is happening. I think they will trade back or take guyton at 20 maybe the duke c who can play everywhere

I'm concerned about '24, you're already worried about a replacement for Pickens? Let's try to field a team that has a very dominate OL. We need to win in the trenches. Smiths offense demands it. You can get a very good WR in round 3, Steelers have done a great job in that dept. OL line should be a priority this draft. WR though should get a long look in free agency. Hope we get a very capable wide out soon.

What free agent Centers of any repute are left?
