With the OL, all I think I'd do is plan on re-signing Moore on a short term deal (like 2 years) and sticking with the group as-is.

Go with Moore-Seumalo-Frazier-McCormick-Fautanu as the starters with Jones, Anderson and another interior OL (Herbig type but I don't think he's under contract for next year) as the backups, just let the young guys grow.

Fautanu is injury prone enough that I like the idea of sticking with Moore, Fautanu and Jones as their tackles as long as they can afford it.

You willing to do Moore at 3/4 years?

I wouldn't do 3 or 4 years but I don't see why 2 years would be an issue.

You're realistically looking at an Andrew Wylie type of deal at around 2-3 years and $8-$10 million a years. I'd give him 2x10 and then reevaluate once both Jones' and Moore's deals are done.

Moore is such a tough call. He’s been surprisingly great this year but he’s going to get an absolute bag in the offseason as a young LT coming off a good year. Relying on Jones would be a big risk though even though he has been better lately.

I will be really surprised if Moore doesn't get a lot more than that.

I will say this for Tomlin.

For all the crap that I give him about idiotic decisions and never learning. And that is legitimate. He on the other hand gets the most out of players than almost any other coach in the league.

And handles diva head cases squeezing production out of them when on many other teams they would, and often do after they leave, spiral out of control.

If I am going to criticize, I am fair enough to give credit.

This is all very valid and also props for giving the ball to Wilson when the team seemed to be falling apart mentally. Wilson has been a captain and the players are feeding off of his energy which at the very least makes this team more fun to watch than it’s been the last few years

Agreed. They are more fun to watch, which in and of itself is a plus in my book.

And one more feather to give Tomlin, and apology from me.

I honestly didn't think that he was ever going to open the offense up again. That he was wedded to that boring take no chances defense first, second and always form of offense.

He indeed has opened it up with Wilson going down field far more often. And as we predicted, it makes all the difference. Teams can no longer cheat and stack the box, which opened the running game.

It's pretty amusing to see the usual suspects downplaying this win on the same weekend the Chiefs should have lost at home to Broncos and the Ravens should have lost at home to the Bengals. This isn't college football and you don't play Mississippi State or Purdue where winning by less than 30 is disappointing. They beat a 7-2 team on the road despite having several bad breaks go against them and not playing their best, yet apparently this win doesn't really count either. Ok Peat. Go back to longing for Kenny Pickett.

Probably time to acknowledge being very wrong about the move from Fields to Wilson. Wilson isn't what he was, but he's a legitimate starting NFL QB, something they haven't really had since before Ben snapped his elbow. Tomlin 1, Brightside 0.

That Thanksgiving game man.

I think for me at least was that Fields came in and was such a breath of fresh air after two years of Trubisky and Pickett. And that it sort of was just forgetting that Russ is in that elevated Tier of QB where maybe you could contend with him, even though he's not what he once was.

On the GW TD, directly after the snap, considering the entire left side of the line got beat immediately, I pegged any throw at 0%. Just re-watched the tape and yeah, Russ deserves A LOT of credit.

That ball was 40 yards, in a bucket, from a guy who was falling away, throwing back against the grain a bit. It would have been a beautiful pass had he just stepped up in a clean pocket.

I think Williams covered the return we gave up. Same for Smith. Smith's presence will be huge considering it looks like AH is down for a long while, if not the season. Khan serving up crow for a lot of folks. Some really massive plays by guys who practiced 3 times w/the team to this point.

I don't see any reason to think that Moore would get a lot more than that.

Orlando Brown got 4 years at $16 million a year and Moore doesn't even come close to him.

As of November 6th, Moore is PFF's 10th ranked tackle (and indeed above Brown).

I am not great at player comparables for contracts when it comes to the NFL but the possibility that a couple of teams might come really aggressive at him seems a pretty live one to me.

Even if they do see him as Andrew Wylie, with no premium for LT vs RT, then that exact same contract as a percentage of Spotrac's estimated 2025 cap of 273.3m rather than the 224m it was at in 2023 is 3 years at 9.73m. So your proposed offer to him is basically that contract but minus a year. Unless he actively wants a short contract because he thinks he's going to prove it and get a massive contract, that's probably not winning.

Speaking more long-term, I’m curious to see what money Wilson would want on an extension. Anything below $30 million seems like it would be worth it but Wilson being willing to stay on a cheaper deal would make it even better.

Ben’s last year was at $14 million, if you can get Wilson a bit above that ($15-$20 million) I’d be super happy.

With cap inflation, that's 20.9m.

And that was a renegotiation by a team saying "take this or lose your legacy as a one helmet guy". If the Steelers have a similar hold on Wilson, it's because Wilson's absolutely fried.

Also that Roeth cap hit didn't reflect the money he got. He got 25.91m that year. Wilson gets a cap inflated version of that as base pay, work out the cap as you will (like Roeth incurred a dead cap hit of 10m the next year), then he'll get 38.8m.

I dunno what Wilson is going to ask for but 15-20m would be a giant discount.

i thought we were way to prediable on 1st down. i'll guess we ran something like 90% on 1st down today, even on 1st and 15 after a procedure penalty in the 4th qr when needing a score
that's not opening up things for me. its been better but needs improvement

The eye test shows that they are far less predictable. And they definately have added the long ball far more often and used the middle of the field ten to fifteen yards from scrimmage.

Teams are no longer stacking the box as they used to.

Believe me, it kills me to give Tomlin credit. I hate saying that I am wrong even more.

But, fairness calls for a person to be honest.

Great win. Still can't believe drawing them offsides actually worked. Wilson is playing a lot better than I expected and gives us a calm and confidence on offense that we've been missing for years.
i'll take it, but that should be automatic after coming up short on 3rd down. why are they going to the sideline first

i agree with you that its better.
but moving foward they need to mix it up a bit more.

i figured they were setting up some play action on 1st down but it never came

Russ' worst game as a Steeler statistically and he still throws for 3 TD's and they put up 28 points.

This game is yet another example of why you need to take shots down field. Russ was 50% completion, Harris was below 3 Y/C, they were giving up sacks. Things were not going well. But because they were able to hit on some big passes and provide that instant offense, they still managed to pull the game out.
