People need to stop hyping these sorts QBs. I don't understand it. Running is not the QB's job. This isn't the 1920s. The forward pass is legal and the primary skill of a QB. If a QB cannot pass the ball they are not a good QB.
even if he was to get fired they're not getting anyone better.
It's not so much that a quarterback who can take off is a bad thing. It is an added thing for a defense to worry about.
The problem is that teams now are putting running above things like ability to make a read or to make an accurate short, medium and long pass.
They rank the importance of these abilities all wrong.
Ability to run is a great thing. But only if you can do the other things very well.
I thought this was interesting. Najee gets a lot of shit for his YPC but almost 75% of his runs are coming with more than 6 guys in the box. I’d be curious to see the breakdown for Warren.
I think there is something to be said for them relying on their running in high school/college, so they don't develop their passing as well as other guys who don't have that luxury.I don't think being slower makes you a more efficient passer, I think there are dramatically less men who can run a 4.4 and play qb at an NFL level than people who are of average speed.
And, if you have that kind of speed, odds are you are going to be playing a skill position in college.
It is such a bizarre thing to complain about.
It's almost like there's a symbiotic relationship between production and playcalling.
We know that Canada/Tomlin doesn't permit audibles. Well this is the shit you get when you limit your options at the line of scrimmage.
I think most of it comes from the lack of respect teams have for the passing game right now. If Pickett can start consistently hitting some deep balls, things will change.
I don’t buy him not being allowed to call audibles at all. I think that whole narrative is a load of BS honestly. James Daniels has said he has the freedom to call audibles. We’ve also literally seen him make changes.
Well, you gotta look at it from Tomlin/Canada's perspective. They're smarter than everybody in the room, so why would they let some else change their genius play calls? It's almost like there's a symbiotic relationship between production and playcalling.

It's widely reported and confirmed KP is not permitted to audible. Ben had the same handcuff with Canada.
And again we literally saw him make changes against the Saints. How could he do that if he wasn’t allowed?
And who is confirming otherwise? I’ve seen Dulac say it but he doesn’t have the best track record recently.
They literally gave KP total freedom the moment it took over. He has been calling all his plays he is responsible for the motion and making sure everyone is set. He is calling his protection. The Eagles and Bills entire 2nd half he ran no huddle he doesn’t trust his arm talent to throw to nfl open WR.This must have been a recent development. This article (granted it was Mitch) says no audibles:
Mitch Trubisky Says His Ability To Audible Is Limited
If the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense looks more static in 2022 than past seasons, you’re not wrong. While Ben Roethlisberger had complete autonomy over the Steelers’ offense, able to audible, check, and change at a moment’s notice, Mitch Trubisky hasn’t been afforded that luxury. Speaking to...steelersdepot.com
From last year:
Steelers veered from using audibles because of the offense's inexperience. What's the reason now?
The lack of letting Ben Roethlisberger change plays at the line of scrimmage has resulted in some strange sequences.theathletic.com
I had to look cause I thought no way Ben ran it that well...he clocked at 4.75 which is way better than I would've guessed.I agree, I've said before the sweet spot for a QB is around a 4.6-4.7, which is about where guys like Mahomes, Rodgers, Josh Allen, and Ben fell. Faster than that it seems to hinder their passing development.
Ben was highly mobile in his first few years. I remember a 30 yard TD scramble against Cleveland.I had to look cause I thought no way Ben ran it that well...he clocked at 4.75 which is way better than I would've guessed.
Granted these past few years he'd have been running 7s 40s so my memory is skewed on his speed.
Never watched a pro athlete walk and I felt pained watching him move.
I was surprised Chicago wanted Claypool. I think it may have been just as much about preventing Green Bay from getting him.
I'm also not sure Chicago is a great fit for Claypool. We won't really know until he learns the offense and settles in. He has a better QB there than he did here but Justin Fields is such a run heavy QB. He reminds me a lot of Lamar Jackson in that sense. Fields' a great player in his own unique way but maybe not the most WR friendly QB due to playing style. I think Claypool would have done way better playing with a passing QB like Rodgers in Green Bay.
Regardless, I think the Steelers did great getting a 2nd for Claypool.

I think that’s total horse sh**. Tomlin is a joke. He can’t manage the clock, he sucks at challenging plays, he’s been calling the d plays for years while we struggled, he only hires complete moron assistant head coaches.Let's be real, Tomlin isn't going anywhere, and even if he was to get fired they're not getting anyone better.
And yet he is considered a top 5 coach not badI think that’s total horse sh**. Tomlin is a joke. He can’t manage the clock, he sucks at challenging plays, he’s been calling the d plays for years while we struggled, he only hires complete moron assistant head coaches.
Is he though? I’d say his 3-7 playoff record since winning it speaks volumes, especially considering two of those wins came against back up quarterbacks and one against Alex Smith. And yet he is considered a top 5 coach not bad
Same amount of wins as Sean Payton and Hairball no one cares about coaching trees. This league recycling coaches way to much. The same organization that gave Ben 2/68 million after the Jacksonville playoff loss and called him the unquestioned leader? Pete Carrol lost a ton with Willson Mccvay is going to miss the playoffs after winning a SB.Is he though? I’d say his 3-7 playoff record since winning it speaks volumes, especially considering two of those wins came against back up quarterbacks and one against Alex Smith.
No sane organization would have kept him this long. Not one team would have brought him back after 2017; most would have canned him after Tebow beat us in 2012.
His coaching hires as of late drops him down in the rankings as well.
