Another thing to point out to the Pickett haters, is the coaching staff (I.e. Canada and Tomlin) currently putting him in a position to succeed?

I was just going to say that! Rodgers rode the Pine for a few years.

I think he was serving in the Navy, then came in and started right away at 27, but I’m not the football junkie I was as a kid so my memory could be off.

Kurt Warner was 27 also.

Age doesn’t matter here, especially when these guys play well into their mid 30s and beyond these days.

Yeah it’s called maxed out most pro ready Qb who had one good season as a super senior
Guess the Steelers are f***ed for at least the next three years then.

Careful what you wish for.

no need to give him 3 years if he doesn’t show any improvement this year move on. They are going to be playing some terrible teams with terrible defenses if he doesn’t improve on his 0 passing tds in the 2nd half. If he wasn’t a local university of Pittsburgh product this would not be a discussion

He is calling his own plays he is watching as much film has possible. They are trying to get him to stop getting stuck on his 1st read and play with in the pocket.

Except Pickett is 24 already Josh just turned 25. He is not even proven to better than Mason whose numbers were better in college and in 2019. Carson turned 24 his rookie year you are seeing any improvement since he took over

Why should they give him 3 years when he is worse than Rudolph and Duck in 2019
these takes are really rough, I'm sorry. I was more of a Mason Rudolph fan, but I wouldn't say he's looked any better than Pickett has, given the circumstances with this offense.

They won’t be moving on until at least ‘25, barring a catastrophic injury, sorry.

In 2019 MR started out 9 tds 2 interceptions and didn’t have DJ Muth or GP to throw to. His leading Wr was Washington.

Nah..its not that maybe you're kinda mad that KP sort of called out the coaching staff after the Eagle game?
No he called out his teamates it’s funny that Claypool called out the OC and has done nothing in Chicago

Comparing Rudolph in 2019 to Pickett today completely ignores the context of the team surrounding those two. That 2019 Steelers teams had one of the best defenses in football. Rudolph wasn't asked to throw 50 times a game to bail out the team like Pickett has so far.

In Rudolph's starts with the Steelers that year, the Steelers defense let up 24, 3, 26, 14, 24, 17, 21 and 10 points. That's about 17.5 points against per game. In Pickett's starts with the Steelers this year, the Steelers defense has let up 38, 18, 16, 35 and 10 points. The defense is substantially worse now, which puts way more pressure on Pickett to push the play and be more aggressive.

Not only that, but the Steelers went through a gauntlet with Pickett's first 5 starts while Rudolph much easier matchups. In Rudolph's 8 starts, the Steelers played the Bengals twice (2-14, 25th rated defense), Browns (6-10, 20th ranked defense), Rams (9-7, 17th ranked defense), Colts (7-9, 18th ranked defense), Dolphins (5-11, 32nd ranked defense), Ravens (14-2, 3rd ranked defense) and 49ers (13-3, 8th ranked defense). In Pickett's 5 starts, he has played against 3 top-5 defenses (Bills at 2nd, Eagles at 3rd and Bucs at 4th) and 2 poor defenses (Saints at 25 and Dolphins at 22).

And even with the Eagles and bills pulling their starters and playing prevent defenses he could not throw a td pass in garbage time. They are getting ready to play a ton of bottom feeders a ton of below average defenses there is no excuse for him to not actually put up decent numbers.
They 49ers team mason played against was in the super bowl.
Kenny 1st td pass was setup by Minka interception return to the 5 yard line against the jets so that means he has 1 td pass since the jets game

These playoff odds for the Steelers seem to be really high to me.

Depends on if you think the pats who are the current 7th seed get to 9 wins. They still have 4 division games Cincinnati Minnesota as potential losses Arizona and Vegas should be wins.
Also the division is in play with both ravens games left
These playoff odds for the Steelers seem to be really high to me.

Could be after watching him practice all week Fields decided to target him 1 time against the lions so probably not getting the ROI on the 2nd

I mean, I'm not a big fan of Claypool either but I like the honesty.. He's not the first to call out Tomlin, this goes all the way back to Harrison.

Every former Steeler calling out Tomlin an angel gets his wings.

Cousins has always been in that “good but not good enough” category plus I think he had a rep going back to college for being a douche, which probably didnt help public and media perception. Jefferson helps him quite a bit. He had one of those Kellen Winslow dragging himself off the field type days yesterday. Plus getting rid of Mike Zimmer who was stuck in the Woody Hayes era of football also probably helps. Hope they continue to do well.

Jefferson is absolutely insane. He's a bigger, stronger AB. That being said, some of Cousins' placements on throws to him are insane too. I honestly despise Cousins, but he and Jefferson really play off each other.

The impatience Steelers fans have with Pickett is just dumb to me. I don't know whether Pickett truly is "the guy", but rushing to replace him after a year or two is just going to result in the Steelers throwing another QB in the same mess that Pickett is in right now.

Arizona drafted Rosen 10th overall in 2018, rushed him into a starter's role and threw him aside for a 5th round pick after 1 year to draft Murray. The Cardinals are 25-29-1 with Murray as starter, so what did that even accomplish? It turns out Rosen doesn't have it, but the Cardinals are still a comically flawed team that is miles away from contention.

You are substantially better off building your team for 3 years and then deciding to move on from Pickett than trying to cut the cord with him before your team is even remotely competent enough to support a rookie QB.

Agreed. They have to stick with Pickett for the next 4-5 years.

Another thing to point out to the Pickett haters, is the coaching staff (I.e. Canada and Tomlin) currently putting him in a position to succeed?

They aren't, but he is still making his life harder than it needs to be at times. The thing with Pickett, I cannot get that bent out of shape about how he's playing. I don't think anyone is playing particularly well, and I don't think it's because of him.

I think Pickett has the moxie and accountability to be a decent QB in this league. He's going to have a rough go here for a couple of seasons though. I think his time with the Steelers will be much like his time with Pitt. I didn't like him at Pitt because I felt he sometimes made things harder than they needed to be, but Pitt also didn't do very much to help him. He had some ATROCIOUS offensive lines and his WRs dropped a ton of balls (Addison included). He kept at it though, and year 4 and 5 he was great, but it took time. The organization has to be patient with him, and I think the patience will pay off one way or another. Either he's going to be a top 10 QB in this league who is the heart of this franchise for years to come, or he leads us to the cellar and a top pick where we can find a franchise QB.

Funny how JJSS and Harrison and Blount have similar things to say
But I guess they should "do something of note" before opening their mouths huh?
I don’t blame jjss he is begging kc for a long term extension what Wr wouldn’t want to play for Reid and with Maholmes. He should learn more about offense working with a top 3 offensive mind.
When your a HC for any length of time some players are not going to like you and it’s ok there’s tons of former players who love him and players in the league who want to play for him.

Do you have other examples of long term coaches getting blasted by former players?
