I’ll admit I liked it when Hollywood Brown did the double point after that one TD. However, I also liked it when Kovalchuk pointed down Sid many years ago. Would rather see the entertaining trash talk be tolerated than cheap hits or head shots.

Romo talking about CONlin's comment 'KPick is a fish.... IN water' like it's the smartest and most savvy thing to say... is just .... is so STUPID. It's wild how much people take conlins stupid words and sayings and melt over them.
Him and his stupid sayings.

Mike Tomlin Blames Steelers Loss on Two Things

"We’re not positioning ourselves to win games," he said. "We didn’t today. And we got on that. Some fundamental things are falling short. We got to keep a lid on it. If you don’t keep a lid on it in the NFL, you don’t give yourself a chance to play. We didn’t do that. I thought it was a domino effect from there on. I thought our eyes weren’t in the right place defensively. It’s capable of happening when you’re not keeping a lid on it. You got to keep a lid on it.

"I thought we were too penalized," Tomlin continued. "I look at those penalties. Some of them I thought were questionable but that’s life. Neither here nor there. I just thought the penalty component of it and our inability to keep a lid on it were Steelers versus Steelers. When you’re playing good people like this group, you’re not going to put yourself in a position to do the things you need to do."

I wonder when he's going to hold himself and his staff accountable? All sizzle no steak... And people actually believe his shtick.

Pickett has been legitimately bad on his own, particularly yesterday. In addition to what’s already been shared:

Honestly though after what he showed in college and preseason, I think it’s an indictment of both the offensive staff and Pickett that these mental mistakes are seemingly growing.

So without absolving him of blame and just blindly repeating Canada, Canada, Canada… I want the Steelers to overhaul so they can tailor more of their offense and playcalling to KP’s strengths and give him an NFL level support system. All these teams now have separate passing game and run game coordinators, QB coaches, etc. That falls on management and the HC.

I mean compare these offensive support systems for the best teams in the league:

Kyle Shanahan, a guy many consider the best playcaller/offensive mind in the league doesn’t need all those guys though, right? He calls his own plays:

Compare it to this one (btw the HC’s background is defense):

Unless I am missing something- the top teams in the league are giving veteran QBs (2 of which are bonafide MVP level superstars in Mahomes and Allen) a better support system than the Steelers give a green rookie quarterback in Pickett. Even if Canada was a good OC/playcaller this is nowhere near the level of resources Pickett should be drawing from.

This team has operated on a JV level too long on the sidelines and without Ben I think Tomlin is going to get exposed unless he adapts. Not a good sign for an org that has operated the same way for 50 years.

So you're telling me that a rookie QB who called his own plays struggled? Man that is shocking and relevatory!

We've been at the extremes of the spectrum: allowing KP to go no huddle and KP being told to only read half the field.

I know it's a novel concept, but how about there being some middle ground where KP is permitted to read the entire field with the playcalls provided?
I know, that shit is too advanced for Tomlin to consider. It's a stupid proposition...forget I ever said something

Again, I have no idea if KP is the man bc he's not being put in a position to succeed bc of crappy coaching. This isn't me defending him or skewering him. But there's a definite pattern with this offense regardless of QB competency/incompetency. Anyone with half a brain can see this.

Roth literally said in his podcast this week it took him years to learn the offense well enough to call the plays in the no huddle - and that was with a competent scheme.

Watching the Roth mouth breathers go into full meltdown mode so early on is becoming more entertaining for me than the games.

Nobody designed a special offense for Jackson. They hired the guy who designed the Collin Kap San Francisco offense. It was already built it’s why teams know how to attack Lamar and unlike hurts who can makes throws in the pocket and use it Wr Lamar sticks to his TE and the RPo blitz him from his right side force him left same with Allen

It's been reported multiple times Harbaugh designed his offense around Jackson when he came into the League.

He’s probably a bust.

Enjoy another 25 year spell of mediocre QB play… at best.

It’s not like we don’t have guys in the block. We just aren’t given guys away especially if they are under contract past this season. If someone offered a 4th for Mt or a 6th for MR they be gone. They want a 2nd for Claypool nobody wants to pay that. We have 19 uDFA they probably will re up bush Edmunds Sutton and Larry O but anyone else is available.
Carolina gave away so much capital for baker and Darnold they needed to recroup some
Carolina didn’t give up much to get Baker. The Darnold trade is a different story though

I'll keep repeating this until everyone on this damn board gets it. This isn't a Canada problem. This is a Tomlin/Art II problem.

It doesn't matter if Tomlin's kid is calling plays from Madden or <insert top OC ever known to football> is. Tomlin's philosophy since Arians left has been about playing small ball and limiting turnovers. He's the new age Buddy Ryan= defense is the priority

It's been the edict from Art because he harfed about "Pittsburgh identity is about running the football and defense".

We've had 4(?) OC's since that time and it's all been the same playing in your fears mindset.
You will not see any difference unless Tomlin or Art decide to do something differently.

So everyone is wasting their time and energy positing who could be the new OC. You'll see the same fleas on a different dog. We'll always score less than 20 points a game and the running game will be featured regardless of it sucking or not.

Tomlin is playing like it's 2008. The NFL has changed during that time. And even if you magically could put that team back in the present, they'd probably be a 9 or 10 win team. You have to adapt- this is 2022 and offense rules

What about Quinn?

I guess. Usually sell offs happen in MLB and the NHL to move veterans who aren't returning the next year anyway. Quinn was under contract for a couple more years, and it's not like the Bears are in cap trouble. I'm guessing Eberflus wants to stockpile picks more than anything

I've wanted the Steelers to hire Eberflus for years. The Bears aren't a great team but they're obviously playing a lot better than they did under Nagy. That offense has absolutely nothing going for it and they've scored what 35 more points than the Steelers this year? lol

Yup. Canada out is great-

Until you realize we’re probably just going to hire another Canada.

Like I said, Tomlin has to adapt to 2022 or this will be hopeless until he retires in 2040.

Saw this on another site discussing our RB's coach, Faulkner and his "qualifications"
Sad to see this level of cronyism eat at this franchise

***********************************

In 2011, as OC and QB coach, Canada brought Faulkner into Northern Illinois as the RB coach and ST coordinator. Then in 2012 he followed Canada to Wisconsin as the TE coach. Then, again, he followed him in 2013, this time to NC State as TE/FB/ST coordinator.

Tomlin was familiar with both Faulkner (2012) and Canada (2016) because they both has short stints in the office next door at Pitt.

Tomlin drafted Jaylen Samuels (2018) solely because of his relationship with Faulkner, and then, he brought him here a year later (2019) to coach Samuels as the RB coach.

Even in 2018 Tomlin still had he sights on Canada, but for a slightly different reason, he wanted his son Dino (barely a 3 star WR recruit
) to play at his uncle Ed's (Tomlin's older brother) alma mater, so he got his buddy Matt Canada (HC/OC) to recruit/offer him. But, due to his lack of real college playing talent, Canada couldn't actually put him on the field, so Dino barely played.

Side note: Since Canada left the U of Maryland, Dino no longer had his meal ticket. So, the great WR talent that is Dino
was recruited by Boston College WR coach, Darrell Wyatt. Guess where Wyatt also coached? In 2006, he was WR coach for the Minnesota Vikings -- the same year ol' Mikey Tomlin was the DC. Side-side note: Does the name Karl Dunbar ring a bell? He was the D Line coach there in 2006. All buddies of Tomlin.

Back to Faulkner: in 2020, to repay the favor/debt, Tomlin brings on Canada as the QB coach and now OC. Faulkner is tied to his hip.

It's all part of the Tomlin Head Coaching Anacapa Chart -- better known as Tomlin's shit-show lazy, crazy "gut" personnel chart.

I’ll eat crow on that. I can’t believe a team traded a 2nd round pick for Chase Claypool

It’s highway robbery for the Steelers to be honest. Claypool absolutely wasn’t worth a 2nd round pick

It should be a relatively high second as well. I think he’s worth a second in the right situation. Is he going to live up to his potential with Fields throwing him the ball though? Eh.
