Correct. Butler would be here but they chose to keep the ball in Simmons' hands and use their extra cap to sign Horford. Harris would have been re-signed either way.

In typical Philly fate that decision went as bad as it possibly could have went. Horford came here from Boston to sabotage the team and Simmons mentally quit the game. Butler, who looked like he was slowing down in age 28-29 seasons, has absolutely made a bitch out of the typical age curve with four tremendous seasons in Miami.

Don't forget that management and ownership were concerned about not being able to "control" Butler and his reputation for being considered toxic for locker rooms. Meanwhile he demanded excellence. He punked Brown who turned out to be a huge mistake to extend as coach and to pair with OJT Brand as GM.

Butler no doubt would have ripped Simmons to shreds and rightfully so. Too many weak willed players on this team including Embiid. Also don't forget JRich and how they thought he could help with spreading the floor. Finally, once Butler was dealt we had to add extra term to Harris to keep him because losing him and Butler would have really exposed B&B as the complete clowns they turned out to be...

My Embiid strategy for 2023-2024 would be Embiid doesn't play 1 game until after the all-star break. Let his body think February 20th, 2024 is actually October 20th, 2023.

Hopefully we can build a recognizable culture beyond just Embiid with Nurse..

Spo is definitely a great coach but Riley is equally key to their organizational success..along with great weather.

I truly think Harden is gone ....I think they are going to "try" and assemble a better team in the Miami mold with better role players. How Morey does it is another matter (creative) but to me I see very little upside in keeping Harden beyond one more season. Nurse was more about Embiid than Harden anyway. Guess we'll see.

The Houston thing looks the most obvious, especially when you look at the NBA contract rules. Which also means the people out there talking about the Sixers 'sign and trading" Harden to Houston are probably being overly optimistic.

Houston still has a hate-boner against Morey so they likely wouldn't want to help him get a mega TPE to use.

Also because Harden will turn 38 before the 5th year that reduces the amount he can actually be offered in a contract.

The tl;dr is that the Sixers can offer him a max value of $210m. Split up over 4 years, or 5 years. Other teams can sign him to a max value of around $201m over 4 years.

So the chances of a Harden TPE are pretty damn slim which also means the chances of actually making major moves this off-season to bring in another high priced player are dead in the water without it.

They called that one on Smart and it was one of the worst flops of the playoffs. Even Reggie Miller said something along the lines of "Matt Damon would be proud of that one."

Was that game 7 or talking about the game 6 play where he jabs his arm into the Miami guy, hooks the Miami guy's own arm and then falls backward to draw a foul? lol.

Nurse is going to help, but just be prepared to dislike some things too.

He will play try hard defensive guys too much. He was infatuated with Patrick McCaw for example.

He takes too long to take a TO when a run is happening against.

He will overplay guys he trusts defensively, and not trust young guys as much.

He won't run many plays offensively but having Embiid helps with that.

Knowing he has Embiid at C, I expect a guy like Maxey will be told to cheat for steals. Embiid can cover if he doesn't get it and Maxey is quick so can recover.

It will be interesting to see how he changes with the better 76ers lineup vs what he had to work with in TO the last few years. Our half court offense was garbage and no one could shoot. Those are not issues with you guys. And on D, no real C so gambled a lot for steals to look for easy transition buckets but then had to run around like crazy to cover if you don't get the steal. But you don't have that issue.

I yhink Maxey is going to be an All Star next year....and Melton is going to play a lot.

If Harden does walk going with a starting backcourt of Maxey and Melton is not the worst thing in the world.
