I remember that shootout winner, but didnt know the story behind it. Really inspiring

Stories like this is why I look up to hockey players instead of other athletes because they are so humble and they are such awesome people.

Wow, sad story. Puts everything into perspective. Matty seems like a real nice guy. Hope he gets his game together for next year. Im sure he will. He's too talented not to.

it really shows Matt caring personnality . He seem to got his speed back ,7 shots last game but in hockey language he's holding his stick too tight (anxious to score)

All the Duchene haters will be the same wishy/washy fans singing his praises next season. This entire topic is much-ado-about-nothing.

Can't believe this thread has hit 24 pages:laugh:

I remember a player that a lot of Manchester United fans wanted sold when he was 21, everyone thought he was just a selfish showboat that would never learn. He kept dribbling until he lost the ball and never passed his teammates. Several years later most think that Cristiano Ronaldo is a pretty decent "soccer" player. My point isn't that Duchene will be as good at hockey as Ronaldo is at "soccer". My point is that you don't give up on a player with so much talent at such a young age. I would start worrying about Duchene if he shows no improvement at age 24-25.

This thread might be the worst on the boards. The kid played much better last night and his line was dangerous almost every shift. Yes, he missed some glorious chances (namely whiffing on a clear shot in the slot) but give the guy a break. He is clearly playing injured and looked more like his normal self than he has in ages. I know we are frustrated about his lack of finish/production, but I'm sure he is more frustrated at himself than any of us combined. Let's hope he uses last game as a stepping stone, keep that line together and use his missed chances as motivation to pot some next game. The talk about trading/scratching him needs to stop, we are way more dangerous with him in the lineup.

So one good game out of the past 10 - a game in which he was pointless and made a terrible turnover in overtime - is supposed to put Matt Duchene beyond criticism?

Yeah he's a kid, but let's not coddle this guy like we did Carmelo Anthony for 5 years or whatever that was. Every night Carmelo made mistakes, it was the same old "Well he's still young and needs to mature" from the radio guys. Carmelo never grew up. And Duchene's got that "little kid" attitude that's cute for a while too until he cashes in on a big extension, doesn't produce, and straps the team for a number of years. It could go the other way and Duchene could end up great - let's hope so. But giving someone a free pass for youth is only good for so long.

By all means criticize him, its defenitely deserved but by reading the get and not watching the game, you would think Duchene single handedly gave the canuck the 2 points. When ice berg think poster went too far in criticizing a player you know its bad.

Who's giving him a free pass? He's been benched by a few times by Sacco, Rycroft called him out last game. You think a few people bad mouthing him on the net is going to change anything? Fans defending him on HF is not considered giving a player ''a free pass''

I'd be pissed if the avs traded duchene unless its clearly for someone better, but I don't see that happening. He's got elite talent and we are all frustrated by him not getting better this year, but I think the injuries has been a big factor in it. If the avs were in a better position in the standings then I think he would've come back later instead of rushing himself into the lineup.

At his age and where he is in his career, it's almost impossible to trade him hoping you will get a better return right now and in the long run.

With Greg Sherman you never know, but they most likely won't trade him. He's way too young and Colorado doesn't know what they have yet.

Even if they get good return, down the road people may be saying "but they could have had Stastny, O'Reilly, AND Duchene," much like they do when looking back on the Quebec Nordiques and Sundin/Sakic/Forsberg.

great individual skills, doesn't make anyone around him better, sometimes clutch, a black hole in the cycle, not a vocal leader....I don't think it's too far off.

But Matt Duchene is already at his New York Knicks...

Melo was uncoachable, not the best work ethic, got fat, etc. I doubt Duchene will become any of those.

You don't trade guys with Duchene's upside until you find out how good this guy can be. There's no reason why this guys can't be a 80-90 pts guy and those guys don't grow on trees. I don't see Duchene as a player Sherman would trade considering he's young, good cap hit (well I guess we'll find out what type of deal he signs), etc. I'm pretty well convinced next year everybody will have forgotten about this and everybody will once again be singing Duchene's praises.

Sometimes fans aren't really rational at all..
