Good job on failing to make your point clear in the first place.
Thanks, even tho it should have been pretty obvious I was talking about the 2 players defensive games. Considering Duchene has been pretty successful offensively in his first 2 years.
Is the fact that Yzerman added a defensive aspect to his already impressive game supposed to make me think that Duchene isn't more valuable as a trade asset than on the ice?
Again, you missed the point. Good job on that.
It's the fact that a young offensive stud learned to play defense after a few years in the NHL. As for Duchene being more valuable as a trading chip than on the ice, Just look at the players traded or rumored to be traded around Duchene''s position. Not one of them got a bonafide star or rumored to.
Sorry, but it doesn't. I'm not saying that it's impossible for Duchene to improve, but I do think it's asinine to pretend like Yzerman wasn't already special at Duchene's age OR that Yzerman's progress is any indicator of what to expect out of Duchene.
Duchene's first 2 years were successes. I'm not saying Duchene=Yzerman or will ever come close to the player Yzerman was. I'm just using an example.
For every Yzerman you give me as an example, I can give you 5 players who showed promise in Juniors or their first year, then flamed out and left their GMs kicking themselves for not trading them when they had higher value.
Please, name 5 players that have 122pts in their first 161 games in the NHL, then flamed out and left their gm's kicking themselves.
I'll grant you that Flash and Duchene had chemistry. But, I consider that more to Fleischmann's credit than Duchene's. Who hasn't he had chemistry with, even in Florida this season? On the other hand, all I've heard for the last 3 years is 'break up this line or that line'
Duchene had pretty good first year and a better 2nd year. I think it's safe to say he's had chemistry with a number of players or Duchene's good enough to hit 100+ points without any help?I'm not sure where you heard break up this line or that and judging by your post count I think I've spent more time on here so, I would know.
so Duchene can have some 'good' line mates. And, even if the line looks good for a couple games, they inevitably implode and the cycle starts again. Mueller looked best when he played with Stastny. Stewart looked best when he put in some effort and played with Stastny. Olver just looks good (at least 3rd/4th line center good.) Winnik looked best when he played with O'Reilly.
Implode by injuries, yes.
This year you're right but not in his first year with the avs, he was clearly better with Duchene. Olver looked better last year on Duchene's wing.
