So hadn't been paying attention until a friend mentioned it but apparently Kentucky had quite a run in the SEC baseball tourney as the 12 seed.

Did Vandy just have a weird year or has the balance of power shifted in the league?

So apparently an ESPN broadcaster said that Tennesse's catcher was out due to a failed drug test and the NCAA would be testing the entire team. Apparently it was a flat out lie and the guy was just sick.

Tennessee has a lot of 5th and 4th year players on it’s roster. After this year almost their entire lineup will be gone. Whereas Vanderbilt is mostly Sophomores.

Their roster might have a lot of seniors but a lot of their big players are freshmen and sophomores, especially pitching, Dollander is only a sophomore and he's the old man of the starters, Beam and Burns are both Freshmen. Freshman JD McCracken is another young guy that's going to be a really good one. Ben Joyce is a redshirted Junior but he's for sure going pro.

Gilbert is a junior, Beck is a jr., Ortega is sophomore, Stephenson is a junior, Dickey is a freshman, Burke is a freshman

Of the 44 players listed on the roster, 7 are seniors or grad students, 25 are freshmen or sophomore.

Burke, Dickey, Beam and Burns were all big players and all are freshmen.
Christian Moore also a freshman won some all SEC freshmen honors.

Trey Lipscomb is a senior, and a great player, he will be missed. Lipcius is a grad student, great player, and will be missed but Burke is also a first baseman, so he's already groomed his replacement.

I know this pains you as a Vandy fan, especially living on the edge of East Tennessee, but UT is talented and they're not going away for awhile.

Coming into this season most people had UT pegged as taking a step back because we lost a lot of pitching and Tidwell was out for a long time. Turns out our young pitchers were even better than the guys they replaced. I wouldn’t be surprised if we similarly see less of a drop off from our position players next season. I doubt we will have as dominant a regular season next year as we have this year but we should still be a very solid team. It really seems like Vitello may do for us what Corbin has done for Vandy. As long as he sticks around I expect us to be a consistent competitor for the SEC and CWS.

The big key for when a program gets that good is how long can you keep guys. When that money starts calling how many do you lose and at what time. Baseball is a bit different due to the minors system, and certain the NIL situation helps colleges now, but MLB pays a heck of a lot better than the NFL for most of these guys, so that NIL money doesn't look as sweet.

I think the Predators and the Grizzlies should do what it takes to get out of their contracts with Bally Sports, given the shut down of FS Tennessee.

Then they can launch a proper replacement with another RSN owner.

Baseball at least has the benefit of making guys stay for three seasons after enrolling before they can get drafted again.

Kid giving the bird after the home run was a little embarrassing too
People wonder why so many fans hate them. Tennessee had zero baseball fans prior to 2021 and the rest of the SEC plays with class and respect. Now the coaches players and fans all act as of they invented the sport and no one else even has any history with the sport and are beneath them. They remind me of Blackhawk fans in 2011.

I have a feeling the coach will probably hear about that one from a higher up. It's one thing to push boundaries, but stuff like that will make the University look bad. Sports donors may not care, but those in other departments will.

So 7 of the remaining 16 teams are SEC(or soon to be SEC).
Which is understandable. We play baseball year round here, only taking off December, so we get more reps than some of the other parts of the country.

You're not playing 10u travel tournaments in Michigan in February, you are here.

Baseball is also revenue generating for several SEC schools so they can invest more in it than 99% of the other conferences and schools.

Speaking of college baseball, this year's NCAA tournament has been absolutely fantastic.

I really think college baseball SHOULD be way more popular than it is. I went to a lot of the SEC tournament here in Birmingham and watched a lot of the regionals over the weekend and that was just great, great stuff.

In many ways it is really a way more entertaining product today than MLB in my opinion- I saw more .300 batting averages in one game at the SEC tournament than you would see in 10 teams in MLB

Some of the regional games over the weekend were just incredible. College baseball needs to get someone to take over and revamp the marketing/distribution. Yesterday there were 9 winner take all super regional games and most of them were during the day on a Monday- basically invisible. And you can't even easily find scores of games- not on most of the score apps that people use.

I am like most people- when it comes to college sports Football and Basketball will always rule, but college baseball really deserves a lot more attention and coverage.

They had one. UTK 1980. Been a fan for years but until last year they hadn't really done anything since 2005. So if people are basing their hate off of things that happened 2 days ago and um, 17 years ago then they're probably just Vanderbilt fans.

I don't approve of the gesture and my guess is that the coach didn't either.
