They had one. UTK 1980. Been a fan for years but until last year they hadn't really done anything since 2005. So if people are basing their hate off of things that happened 2 days ago and um, 17 years ago then they're probably just Vanderbilt fans.

I don't approve of the gesture and my guess is that the coach didn't either.
We actually went to UT in 2016 with the entire Blackman Middle baseball team (ironically Drew Beam’s 8th grade year) to watch former Blackman player Hunter Martin pitch his last home stary for UT. Hunter’s little brother Scout was on our team.

UT about to crash and burn. Cleanup hitter mouths off to the ump and gets tossed. Is this double elimination or one and done?

Edit.. nvm apparently that was yesterday??

I was up in Knoxville for a work function this past week, and managed to get a ticket to the game yesterday. Was definitely less than impressed with the Vols attitude. Every pitch it seemed like they were complaining, visibly making noise from the dugout, etc.

Then the coach and one of UT's star players were tossed because the kid told the ump "you're f-ing terrible" or "the call was f-ing terrible" or something. The umps had had it by then and tossed the kid and the coach. So they'll miss Game 2 today. Really, really stupid.

The fans though for the most part were extremely friendly. And tickets on resale markets are going for ridiculous prices, like $300-600 for Games 2 & 3.

That's the only thing about what they are doing, you can't direct that same angst at umpires cause they aren't going to put up with it. One thing that has always been a quick way to get out of a ball game is to bitch at an Umpire about how he is doing his job, and that's probably never going to change lol.

They said a #1 team hasn’t won it all since 99. That’s nuts, only 14 have even made it to Omaha. This is the 2nd year in a row a #1 ranked SEC team hasn’t made it to Omaha.

Frankly they were lucky they didn't get more people tossed, including some fans. Throwing garbage on their own field, openly cursing. The way Tenn acted yesterday was even worse when they won. Slamming bats, talking trash to the ND people, I really hadn't seen anything like it.

All's well that ends well though, great weekend for ND and they're on to Omaha.

I totally get it. Some people just seem to have some kind of weird, visceral dislike for the Vols.
I don't have a dislike for the school but when you pull some of the stuff they have ( see above ) you are going to have people cheering against you.

Arkansas is back in the CWS again. Ain't a whole lot of hate being thrown at us so it ain't about being good.

This should make people appreciate what Vanderbilt accomplished in 2019 more because they were the favorites by a large margin even though UCLA was the #1 seed. They won everything possible that season. FYI: they were the only sec #2 seed to ever win it.

I don't have a weird, visceral dislike for the Vols.
I don't like a team and fanbase with zero history coming out of the woodwork and acting like they own the game.

The Vols had a hell of a season but when you act like a bunch of a-holes, the baseball gods pay attention.

It’s really just one player that most people take issue with.

And Vanderbilt has had their share of self entitled players as well.

Anyway, Go Irish!

i guess i just don’t take it that serious. any sport for that matter. baseball needs to appeal to the younger demographic and more people were talking college ball. too many unwritten rules in baseball for my liking.

anyone seen acuna hit a bomb lately? he hit a lead off HR not too long ago and did the trae young celebration. i loved it.

Yeah I mean something like Gilbert flipping off the opposing CF is too far but if its a celebration with your own teammates I don't get why people get so upset about it.

I also don't care about cursing towards the umpires or complaining about calls. Especially considering we're on a messageboard for a sport where those things are routinely let go.

Flipping the bird was the only thing that crossed the line for me. I love all the extra stuff regardless of what team does it.

Because in baseball it's just something you don't do is argue balls and strikes. From the majors all the way down to little league that has been consistent for decades. Every single player and coach on the field has known it since they were kids.

Now you want to argue a missed tag at the plate, a foul ball, etc. then have at it. Celebrating is fine as long as it's not done to target an individual player, that's when you start going too far imo.

People would have been ok with the over the top celebrations and bat flipping, but it’s their reaction to other teams doing it that people take exception to. Getting angry and acting like a spoiled brat because other teams give it back is going to rub people the wrong way. The coach threw a bat that was flipped back at Auburn, UT players whined about Alabama’s normal celebration, the Centerfielder pounding the wall after every HR hit against them. Disrespectful behavior towards the opponents and umpires is going to get negative attention.
