I survived now hanging out until tomorrow when I see my usual surgeon. Have the hard cast that needs to be cut off weekly so they can unpack the gauze they have stuffed in the hole as they can't sew it shut. Fortunately the hospital is a whopping kilometre away so can technically crutch it for a couple months.

One of my old caretakers is the floor nurse so she's arranging meetings with some young nurses so I can restaff the positions. Offering 500 baht ($14) a day which is almost their salary as they only make 20k a month a first year nurses, but I'm easier to work for

So curious if anyone is interested in hearing the details/name drops from my Super Bowl weekend or not. Not really trying to brag as it was essentially pure luck.

Mr & Mrs. Swift?

Is the story salacious and hugely entertaining?

No? Well, hit us with it anyway!!

Alright, so I will give a brief intro here. The best man at my wedding has climbed the corporate ladder and is a C-level at a national pizza chain. His wife declined the +1 (she went last year and they are going on another trip next weekend), so he invited me. So this wasn't anything I paid for or earned, just blind luck.

So, things were going to be a little less fancy, ticket wise, but through some circumstances at his work (another C-level had a family emergency) so he got the "premier" invite, which was with Pepsi, one of the NFL's biggest sponsors. So we went from a hotel far down the strip to one right across from the stadium (The Delano, attached to Mandalay Bay). The party invites got upgraded as well, so did our seats.

So Day 1, I leave via the Philly airport.

Arrive at Vegas around 10:30 or so, and via the custom app they made just for the event, I was able to find my ride to the hotel. A blacked out Jeep Wagoneer pulls up, I am just glad my wife has not sat in one of these, as its interior is extremely comfortable and fancy-ass, her favorite type. I check in, they hand me a bag with a cashmere/Merino wool blend Super Bowl branded pullover as well as my 'Pephouse' Badge, which I need to get into all the events. Every room at the Delano is a suite, so I check into a 700 sq ft two room setup. I've had smaller apartments.

It's around noon Vegas time, I am checked in and my friend doesn't get in until 3, so I decide to hit the Mandalay Bay Poker room, it's tiny (only 3 tables going) and the players are all regulars, so its a boring 1-2 hour session, was down a bit but came back at the end to book a small (~$60) win, but a win is a win, especially at these high rake, low stakes games in Vegas.

My buddy finally gets in and we head to the first stop the NFL House. This is essentially a NFL glad handing event. They took over some bowling alley at the linc for the weekend. Free drinks, free food, players stop over here periodically. A vendor met up with us and they talk turkey, I'm looking around for players. I get some snacks and a few drinks, shake some hands as my buddy introduces me to these higher ups I will never meet again. We head to the next event, called 'NFL Legends' at Deliah at the Wynn in Las vegas. Delilah is currently one of the 'hot' places that is tough to get into. The Weekend has his birthday party not long ago. And as we walk it, it is PACKED with a ton of very important looking people. But its feels like a mix of jazz club with a bit of a Miami Vibe to it. The drinks are phenomenal. Top shelf for sure. A waiter in a full tuxedo was at the door with one of the best old fashioned's I've had. Waiters keep walking around with appetizers/top shelf booze, and a jazz band is playing at the front of the room. We head to the outside area where there is seafood stacked on some crazy ice sculpture. There is a woman there in a custom Carolina Panthers blue blazer and some custom button with the panthers logo on it. Either a higher up there or the owners wife. The jazz band takes a break so some tables open up, my friend and I sit down. Several people come over to talk with him, he orders us two Manhattans and I'm sipping on that. But, we have to go, it's dinner time back with Pepsi at our hotel.

So, we stop by our rooms, freshen up, and head to the top floor of the hotel (called the starlight lounge) and its an absolute breathtaking view of the city. This is where our dinner is. More important people, more free booze. We have tickets to U2 at the sphere, so we have a limited window of time here. About 15 minutes before, someone goes up to the microphone and mini stage they have setup behind me where I am sipping on some fancy gin/berry mix they handed me at the door, it's delicious. The voice sounds familiar, I turn around, it's beloved Patriot Slayer Eli Manning speaking about the wonders of PepsiCo. He goes over the list of players coming, the first name out of his lips is none other than Josh motherf***ing Allen. I slip into Panic mode as I know...we have to go, maybe 30 minutes tops, to make the U2 at the sphere show, which my friend got at my request. I've made a huge mistake. But the pepsi guy talks for a bit, and my friend is getting a photo with Eli.

I am helping him when I notice a talked scruffy fellow who I recognize as Will Levis. Then there is Sauce Gardner. I turn around and it's Josh Allen. I wait patiently as he glad hands a few VIPs and makes small talk, and i tap his shoulder. I tell him I'm a huge bills fan and ask if he can record a video for my nephews. He does very nicely. My Nephews minds are collectively blown. In hindsight I should have stayed and talked a bit longer, but I was ecstatic I got to shake his hand and he took the video for me. I let him go and a few other players have retreated to outdoor area where it was much less dense to escape the room a bit. It was Sauce and Levis, who didn't really want to be there and were just enjoying the view and the drinks. We asked them for a photo and they agreed but you could tell they just wanted to get through their obligation and go out as they were talking about what Clubs they were headed to after. Josh was still at the center of the room being very polite to everyone who he spoke with. Allen is really as nice as everyone says he is.

We get out in time and head to the sphere. Traffic is terrible and there isn't a great drop off spot, so we have to walk through the Wynn to get there. The show is great, McAfee was wrong, most of the songs were off achtung baby, which isn't their best album. The biggest annoyance is that everyone said to get there on time and the show didn't start till 8:45 PM when we were seated at 8. Missed out on meeting Joe Montana and a few others. Ah well, free trip to Vegas and a U2 show with great seats. Can't complain. The sphere is absolutely nuts. The sphere had a few songs that made the room seem thousands of feet up and made it feel like a square. It turned night to day and back again. They basically made the holodeck. Just nuts. The concert gets out, it's 11 PM Vegas time. I got up for my flight at 4 AM Eastern time. I am absolutely wiped so we head to the hotel.

The write up is running long and I need to catch up at work, so I will come back with day 2/3 later.

So Continued from part 1

Day 2:

Woke up, got a good breakfast up at the skyfall lounge (Pepsi took this over all weekend). A cold brew old fashioned and omlette bar? Sign me up.

First off was a LIV Golf event. Much different that I was expecting. Got to be very close to the golfers. We had to move out of the way to let a player take his shot that landed just outside the fairway. Lots of money being spent on making it very fan friendly. They kept slapping wrist bands on me as we met more people. One to get in, one for access for this lounge/that lounge. Think I had 4 on before we left. Started out at the 'party hole' which was the 8th hole. Free Beers/Free food, No free liquor (the NERVE). Anyways, we hung out, saw Brook Koepka probably with the worst shot on the par 3 (saved by the fact the luxury boxes were right behind us. A guy working for LIV were talking, and knowing I am a bills fan let me know that Thurman Thomas was here 'somewhere', but I never did find him. That guy did get us the hookup for the LIV private box that DID have liquor. Bloody Mary's all around. The Bartender in the box was from Attica and was hoping some Bills players would show up (none did) so we sat, we drank, we watched golf. The final 3 trio was Dustin Johnson/Bryson Dechambeau and someone else. We saw Phil Mickelson leaving the 8th hole as we walked up as well. After that, there was some afternoon things my friend had to do, so we went to the "club" where they had free lunch. And it was probably some of the best food of the weekend. As we ate, saw Wayne Gretzky getting a drink from the bar. Was mildly annoyed to be asked for a photo, so I just took one for my buddy and let him on his way. Was going to try again later but he disappeared soon after with two drinks in his hand.

After my friend had to attend some 'brand activations', essentially get a sales pitch from Rockstar Energy and and Gatorade. Essentially a bit of paying the piper for the free weekend. So we did those, not a ton to report other than Rockstar energy is sending me a 3d printed action figure of myself at some point and Gatorade loves to give you free bottles.

Next was a free 45 minute massage at the day spa. No complaints.

Dinner was pretty nuts. It was the 'pre game party' It was unseasonably cold for Vegas, probably down in the 40s and for an outdoor dinner, I think killed the turnout a bit, but was still pretty crowded. It was at a pool, surrounded by tables and heat lamps, fire dancers, a woman in a bubble doing acrobatics, in the pool, and other vegas pomp. As we walked to the Bar, jerry rice was hanging out and talking and Emmit Smith was nearby in the same area. Both were pretty surrounded so we decided to try for a picture later. The food here was probably the most disappointing, mostly because it was poorly lit and you couldn't see what was in the Buffet trays so it was a bit of a gamble. But hey, free booze. We sat down and ate and Shaq gave opening comments. Led the crowd in a 'Coke sucks' chant and talked about the charity work he has done with Pepsi. He didn't real circulate much in the crowd, just came out for some pre arranged promotional shots and escaped. As we went back to the bar, we were able to get a picture with Jerry, was really nice and made sure we got the shot we wanted. Emmitt was long gone. We discovered that tucked a away a bit, Hennessy had a stand up and offered a maple Hennesy cocktail as well as cigars being handrolled on site. Most people were circulating near the stage because of the concert coming (Black Eyed Peas). My friend and I found comfy lounge area in the corner, smoked our cigars and had some more to drink. I think the cigars made us a bit repellent to the sales folk, as people were dressed up. Jokes on them, they are going to smell like smoke anyways going back through the casino, should have had one. We enjoyed a good bit of the concert from afar and when our cigars were up, we decided to go checkout Amazon's private lounge at the Aria. We were expecting bad traffic but it honestly wasn't too bad.

The Amazon lounge was was pretty small, but had a bar, seating, and not too packed. They were custom embordering Thursday night football hats, and my now tipsy ass got 'Doak Rules' on my hat. A mentalist was there and tried to pull some tricks on drunk folks. was pretty good sleight of hand and even had a custom app that generated a ton of wifi APs with the name of a persons card on them. Pretty neat. Soon after, in walks Ryan Fitzpatrick. Said hi real quick and he got pulled away. Felt almost like he had a friend there whose job it was to pull him away if a fan started talking to him, but my drunk ass was adamant about waiting it out and getting a photo. Probably 10-15 minutes later he was free and he actually spoke to us a bit. Talked about going to the Bills/Chiefs game this year, and how sad it was at the end as they were waiting to go, fans would come up and say hi and just leave dejected because of the game. Told us the Niners were going to blow out the Chiefs (my drunk ass also used this as an excuse to put $50 on the niners at the sportsbook) and he wasn't a huge fan of Joe Brady. Said this year would be a transitional year for us. We had an event the next day where Tom Brady was going to be at, and I was told that if I boo'd him, I would lose my superbowl ticket. I told this to Fitzy and he said 'No, you can boo Tom Brady' Thanks Fitz.

We headed back to our hotel and back to the top floor lounge for a few more free drinks. We stopped at the sports book to bet moderate amounts on the niners (I bet 50 my friend $40). After probably two more drinks upstairs, my buddy called it a night and my drunk ass went to the poker tables. Thankfully I ran stupid good and made $300 or so in about 40 minutes and started to sober up and feel extra tired so I went to bed.

It's now time to Shovel, so I'll recap gameday later.

I guess you didnt go for the Robert Craft special at the day spa.

Funny story with Fitz, my Aunt and Grandma were volunteering at a Hunters Charity event, and they wanted to get a football for Jim to sign for me, so they went to a store to buy a bill and they see a couple guys in the store and ask them if the one they picked out was a good one to get, and it the time they didnt realize but it was Fitz they asked and just left buying the ball and didnt figure it out til later who they had talked to.

Shoulda got one game in
So because the holidays make no sense at all, the lady I was seeing decided to straight up ghost me then complain about how guys just wanna use her, another lady went out of town and decided she’d have preferred to be here with me instead, and my daughter said that anybody finding me attractive is an idiot.

Happy holidays, I guess?

Related to this, the second lady in the quote asked me if I wanted to make a video with her for her OF. I mean, cool. But at the same time I DON’T need to make you lose subscribers lol.

Welp may be time to start actively looking for a new job. Not something I want to do and finding something making what I make now or more isn’t going to be easy but it just may be that time. Ugh.

Speaking of jobs, how important is money to everyone? I have a current job that pays me well, has great hours, and a short commute. I'm mostly happy. But, I've been offered a promotion, $35k raise, and company car to go back to a former employer that mistreated me while I was there. Now, its run by people I trust, but the hours, commute, and stress could be a lot worse than what I have now. What would you do?

It honestly depends on where you are in your career. Early to mid career (say 20s-30s) the value of taking risk to increase your salary is better because that new salary is what the rest of your jobs will be based off of. So while 35k might not make a big difference for you now, using that 35k to leverage a job later that is a better situation for yourself later could be.

From my career, when I was in my early 30s i was offered a 30% raise to go to night shift. I hated it. But, I was able to use that raise and title to get another job a year later that was a 60% more than I was making previously.

However, if you are Sr Level for your field already and this salary that is being offered. while a raise, isn't something you couldn't get in a better situation if you actively looked and you don't like the situation, it's OK to turn it down.

The big question for me would be would the $35k improve my life enough to offset the negative impact the change in jobs would create.

Personally, great hours and a short, or no, commute have become extremely valuable to me. And I doubt I would give that up for $35k.
