Up a bit early, heading to Clermont to extricate my GF's eldest from a bad relationship situation. I suppose this is where I become Florida Man. *sigh*
be careful. don't need to read another news story starting with "Florida man...".

So far so good. He was standing around like a drunken dufus with a friend who was drinking some light beer at 6:00 am because Florida. Swept everything she had packed to go up into the car with almost nothing said other than a “morning” from me to them.

Edit - made a pit stop on the way back, thus the ability to post.

I have survived to the first break week of my last full semester at seminary.

I have some work to do this week to get caught up with some reading for one class and I should do some other work. But, I am a procrastinator.

And Nate's first game of the season is scheduled at home at 1pm on Saturday. But, if the forecast holds, I won't be shocked if it slides to Sunday.

Will fix everything
Saturday morning we a bit of snow. Was worried when I checked my socials before going outside everyone claiming they got way more than forecasted. When I finally got outside to shovel it was 2-3 inches, but it was the lightest powder, so clearing our driveway was a breeze. I was expected the worst after 8 inches of wet snow we got on Tuesday. Next year, I am getting a snowblower. Just praying no more storms for the next month or so.

I think my old ass back finally has recovered from the bad snow clearing.

I remember a neighbor using a leaf blower to clear some light powder one year in Amherst.

Shoulda got one game in
I haven't played in goal since pre-pandemic time. I haven't skated up this season. But, I got asked to sub in net tonight. This should be an adventure!

I once went to a beer league game expecting to play out. Our G got stuck at work so he couldn’t make it, so I volunteered to be the goalie. We got annihilated, because I had to do it with extra equipment, my regular player skates, and the team we played had many former NHL players on it, but it was fun. We lost 19-1, and it was a no slapshot league, but it was fun making them wonder how I stopped pucks. I sucked so I did Hasek moves, and my team decided that seeing we paid money for the season we’d just eat the loss

It took me a while to get dressed. It took even longer to get undressed. And my left ACL feels every bit of the almost 50 years old it is.

But, I made a couple more saves than it appears they usually get and we got a couple more goals than they usually get and we won 6-3 (with an ENG). I did try and make it interesting after we went up 4-1 in the 3rd and it was 4-3 before we got an insurance goal and then the empty netter.

It would take another couple of games to get my movement back. And I hate my trapper. Other than that, it was a good time.

I hated it when I "made it interesting." :)

At least those two were ones where my D were blaming themselves because the forwards turned the puck over to their D on the blueline.

But, on the second goal, I got beat blocker side because I was too deep in my crease and I think I was off my angle a bit. And the third goal was a point shot through traffic that beat me five hole. And it may have been tipped on the way in. But, I hate goals that go through me.

My accountant is apoplectic. He asked for my FBAR as I need to submit if I have more than 10k in a foreign bank. I put 25k in for my retirement visa in case I sell the bars, then I send myself 3k a month for living expenses. Well to make a long story short I'm at almost 160k as 2 years of never coming close to 3k spending and my profits, he's they're going to audit you again. He asked last week and I said maybe 50k but guess I was off a smidge. I mean shit my Thai accountant just sends in monthly profits, my bills are automatically deducted and I never ask for a receipt when I withdraw cash so kind of clueless.

Now he has to wait until my Thai taxes are done so Uncle Sam don't get too greedy and take what I don't owe

Decided to make the rounds so took out the caretakers. First stop Runway market for chicken and fish to feed 130ish girls. After that the walk of fame down the 6, lots of girls giving the what you do why on crutches etc.

Get to the bars, send out the minions to get the food for their bar, say hi to the mamasans and cashiers. Caretakers are kind of shocked at the sheer number of girls, start wondering how they can make money. Nut who we call that because she's nutty tells them she makes 100k+ a month and loves her job.

We spent a couple hours, they had fun now the question is whether I take them down Soi Boomerang tomorrow after they replace the cast and restuff the hole the docs cut out. Soi Boomerang is a Gentleman's club street but will have lots of girls lingering outside to reel in customers

In the Panderverse
So Continued from part 1

Day 2:

... Started out at the 'party hole' which was the 8th hole. Free Beers/Free food, No free liquor (the NERVE). Anyways, we hung out, saw Brook Koepka probably with the worst shot on the par 3 (saved by the fact the luxury boxes were right behind us. A guy working for LIV were talking, and knowing I

It's now time to Shovel, so I'll recap gameday later.
I LOL'd at the bolded.
Check your messages! ;)

Speaking of jobs, how important is money to everyone? I have a current job that pays me well, has great hours, and a short commute. I'm mostly happy. But, I've been offered a promotion, $35k raise, and company car to go back to a former employer that mistreated me while I was there. Now, its run by people I trust, but the hours, commute, and stress could be a lot worse than what I have now. What would you do?
I am in the high-earning phase of my life / career, and also know that I am well above the median / mean per-capita and household earning levels in the USA. But even saying that, $35k raise and a corporate car is tough to turn down, even with the cost of time and stress to receive it. I respect your decision, but without knowing more details, I can't relate personally.
I'm probably about 3 years from being an empty nester, so I am both looking for more free time with my family before they leave and could also use the money to help my kids now. My priority is and has always been my family, so I am leaning towards staying and ensuring I have the time with them.

But my greed, ambition and desire to give my kids financial advantages for years to come still has me considering to take the risk at the promotion. They are expecting me to take over the company locally in 3-4 years and that is a huge opportunity that will not be available to me unless I go back now.
Right. There's also the scenario where you take the job to go "into the batter's circle", and either you/they or mutually you both decide you're not the answer long-term (or, they decide you're a caretaker local CEO until they find a better fit). I don't know that I'd view the promotion as a commitment to the next-job-after. Many things could change in between. Why not try it for 6 months, ask for an interim performance review, and have the frank discussion?
So 3/3 updates from my SB trip, game day:

So, this will probably be the most boring one.

...
There was a band that had some guy who was the lead singer of Journey for a few years in mid 2000s. They had a free bar and a few ex NFLers making the rounds. Larry Fitzgerald was probably the biggest name. Julien Edelman was probably the biggest dick, I mentioned I was a Bills fan he said "well we can't all be winners". Guy is much shorter than I even thought, maybe 5'9''-ish.

Overall, it was a once in a lifetime experience. I am getting together a thank you gift for my friend. I've spent the whole week revisiting some of the experiences I got to have, and I really was very lucky to get to experience them.
Edelman has always been that small and always that much of a huge dick. Not surprised.

Glad you had the experience and your liver isn't too scarred.

I think you're going to have to go the thoughtful/sentimental route because a gift card or any normally reasonable thank you gift like a bottle of wine/alcohol may not cut it, lol
I'm thinking a 12-pack of Coca-Cola as a gag thank you should be included in any thoughtful sentimental gift.

I wanna take a moment and say thank you to all of you have sent kind words recently and advice etc. Sounds dumb to say on a message board in a way but I spend enough time here so why not I guess.

Grandma passed at 6:07pm EST today. We were lucky enough to get the call that pastor was delivering last rights and my wife and I and our daughter got the chance to say our goodbyes. I can be a pain in the ass lol but I do appreciate yall hearing my story and the responses. Cheers!
Sorry for your loss. Glad grandbabies were shared, if only for a single brief moment.

Any way to put proceeds into a legal trust with Gus as a controlling trustee? Make your grandkids beneficiaries of the residual and/or make the earnings available to your house girls as an "educational and training fund". Uncle Sam doesn't need to know what they are being trained to do.

My wife read that to me. I immediately responded that if I was the judge in whatever court appearance he had to have for the incident, I'd simply charge him court fees and the statutory fine, and officially declare him Las Vegas "Smartest Man" for the day.

Effin brilliant play on his part. "Beat the house" by catching them with his pants down.

The US and Thailand have a tax treaty so you don't get boned by both. For Thailand I have to show that my 3k a month has been taxed plus 30% from my profits.

Now I think I'm ok with Uncle Sam as I only withdrew 100k from dividends to pay my accountant and set up my ungrateful daughter's business. So the profits plus dividends should fall under the 30% tax bracket. I just have to wait until the end of March when the Thai tax season is finished so I can send my filings over.

I was just complaining as the US is one of the few countries where you can't just claim tax status in whichever country you reside in. I pay out enough to economically assist a foreign country, last thing I want is my tax dollars going to help countries and causes I don't give a damn about.

They will also charge you a tax if you chose to renounce, so the taxman always finds a way.

Successful landing confirmed. First soft landing on the moon for a spacecraft launched from America since Apollo 17 in 1972.

Congratulations to Intuitive Machines, SpaceX, and NASA. And photos soon. Woo-hoo!

I've been rewatching the first couple seasons of "The Expanse" on Prime. I'd forgotten how damned good this show is. I'm caught up to what I had watched originally.

It was well done. My favorite bit of the entire series is most definitely the "I am that guy" moment. If you haven't gotten there, enjoy it when it arrives.

That was a fun show. I felt the seasons got rabbit holed a bit much and they had a hard time with a cohesive season to season plotline, but lots of cool moments. More sci fi content please.

Also, very pumped for Dune Part 2. Read the books as a kid. The director said the plan was to do this and dune messiah. Curious how weird shit will get if they decide to go to Children of Dune/God Emperor and beyond.
