Oh man. I just woke myself up yelling in my sleep. I've never done that. Was having a dream about driving home and seeing a house along the highway explode into flames like from a gas leak. That was horrific.

I had an emotional roller coaster yesterday.

In my class zoom call at lunch time, one of my friends at seminary talked about how she started having contractions over the weekend and her baby girl should be here soon.

Later in the afternoon, my wife texted me a screenshot of a FB post that was so sad. A couple we know who live down the street from us have been trying for a long time to have a baby. They have had to deal with multiple miscarriages, IVF, and she finally had a pregnancy get into the third trimester. Well, their daughter was stillborn. It makes me so heartbroken for them. And now I'm just hoping my friend's daughter is delivered safely this week.

It was just another reminder of how lucky my ex-wife and I were when it came to having healthy kids without any major issues.

I have had some vivid and unpleasant dreams/nightmares lately too. Mostly just weird (today’s involved interviewing a woman who was talking about not being able to date a player in this year’s draft because he would put a hand behind his back with his fingers crossed whenever he made a promise… and I awoke wondering why my brain is trying to entertain me with Little Rascals meets The Office silliness).

Do you remember your dreams often?

I wish I had more experience of Chicago but I've only been for a working weekend and I drove there after a serious concussion. I remember flashes of it - one of my teammates being asked to leave the hotel by the concierge because she had gone out and dropped a small fortune on knee-high stiletto-heeled red leather boots that she wore back from the Miracle Mile we think to surprise her husband and the staff thought she was there to work. It was one highlight of the trip that sticks with me. Also pushing the team to get pizza from the place that had the line out the door and around the corner on Thursday even though it was a little hole in the wall. I wish I could remember the name of it. Then again, I had fallen and fractured my skull so I wasn't really all there.
My wife's a Chi town girl. It's a fun city for the most part. The zoos there are really cool. I also enjoyed watching the blue man group. My (ex?) father in law and I had a blast at the casino there. The wifey was dress shopping for the wedding while we were downing beers and playing Craps. Such a fun game. I had never played before, and still don't know the rules (haven't played since), but it's way less cut throat compared to poker. I've never seen anyone knocked out cold playing Craps like I have playing poker. It's just nice to have everyone rooting for you to roll whatever numbers they need. Lots of high fives and laughs. There's just a really fun energy with that game.

We arrived home a bit late. The wifey wasn't too happy, but my (ex?) FIL won quite a bit of money, and treated us all to a nice dinner, so my wife forgave us pretty quickly. I learned pretty quickly getting my wife a nice meal helps her forget all my sins from the day...at least for the night, anyways!

Cool city that gets a bad rep. I'd like to check out the night life in the city a bit more.

That's so weird

Not as often as I used to, but at least once or twice a week

I know I'm not supposed to have favorites buy damn I do. Whan just came back, all 5'5 105lbs and 20yo. People told her she'd make so much in the GoGos with a 3k a day contract so she jumped as soon as she turned 20. Here on Soi 6 she was a solid 8.5 with a bunch of lower rated girls, now my bars are generally 7+ but very few match Whan. She took the 10 day contract at XS so was the fresh face, no tats or implants 8.5 amongst a bunch of 8 and 9s.

The contract is 25 drink minimum, any less deducted from salary, 2 barfines per 10 days or that's deducted from salary, showtime is 6pm for hair and makeup or 500 fine. So Whan said she would average 10 to 15 drinks, which meant she'd get fined between 2500 to 3k per day, no money outside of the 25 baht per drink they paid. In her 10 days she made money 1x when some Korean guy paid bar, bought her 25 drinks, took her to dinner and gave her 5k before he went to the hotel to be with his wife.

So she's back and brought some girls with her as I pay 500 per day, 50 per drink, 50 per room etc. Their only fines are using cellphone in the bar, go upstairs no fine. You show up late the manager or mamasan decides if you can work.

I used to have dreams that would freak my partners out. Throwing out patrol signs, crawling off the bed etc but since I cut all medication, barely drink they stopped. I think maybe the fact that I might sleep 3 or 4 hours a night with a 30 minute or so nap during the day might mitigate that deep REM sleep

My REM sleep is often between first waking up and then getting up. My GF gets up at 5:00 for work and if I roll over and go to sleep until 5:30, that thirty minutes can be wild and bizarre in terms of dreams.

I did my grocery run yesterday so lots just make me scratch my head as to why I bother cooking besides the enjoyment. I mean chicken wings $1.80 a kg as are drumsticks. Butterfly pork chops (hence looking for Shake n Bake) $2 a kg so I might save .15 to .30 cents by cooking vice getting cooked from the market. Now I do grab some frozen stuff for those too lazy to cook and can't be bothered going out so frozen lasagna. The frozen Thai for $2 a meal is much better from 7-11.

Being anal, I went over last month's budget by line item:
$500 rent, utilities plus Internet and phone
$176 food includes eating out
$27 water, gatorade, Coke
$253 drinks at bar so 90% lady drinks
$34 toiletries n cleaning supplies
$650 ladies / caretaker

$1640 total for the month so not too bad. This month will be much more as caretaker left and can't replace until after Chinese New Year so paying much more. Not to mention dropping $137 today on snacks, Taco Sauce, Chololu Hot Sauce, mini ravioli and snacks

I use shake and bake to make homemade chicken fingers. I ignore the “bake” part of the name and instead it becomes “Shake n Deep Fry”.

So the hits keep coming - my father fell a few weeks back. He's been dealing with some mobility issues, had gone out for a walk and got light headed, stumbled backwards on an incline and landed on his ass, went over backwards and hit his head. Well... the impact from the fall apparently cracked L2 or L3 and he's been doing chiropractic and physio since the fall and now we don't know what other damage he may have inflicted upon himself.

There is also the possibility that he's got cancer, but that was part of today's phone call that got lost in the sauce while I was at the GF's cancer treatment follow-up/maintenance appointment.

I feel like I'm in the wrong timeline.

Just got back into civilisation after a three day hike. 55km done. Ticked off one of the 9 New Zealand Great Hikes (Paparoa). Very cool to see the Pike River mine from the track. Pike River is famous in NZ for being the site of a mining disaster in 2010. You ask any Kiwi what Pike River is and they know. The track was opened in 2019 and added to the NZ great walks as a way to memorialise it.

Time for beers and takeaways. So looking forward to the Mee Goreng that just arrived.

Oh man. I just woke myself up yelling in my sleep. I've never done that.
Did that once when my daughter was about 6 months old. She started screaming cause she was hungry. For no reason I can explain it set me into screaming as I woke. The most disorienting thing! No idea why it happened.

When my oldest was about 2, we were sitting on the bed, watching Hockey Night in Canada. He dozed off, I dozed off.

We both woke up when this PSA played, particularly the screaming. The foley in this is excellent. If squeamish, don't click.

Oh, I like me some WW1 movies.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone watch Oversimplified on YouTube?

The creator does an amazing job talking about historical events or people. He just did a series on the Punic Wars, which my wife likes to call the Pubic Wars to bug me. Amazing stuff. Im a sucker for Rome, and the Punic Wars were brutal for them. Hannibal was a top-3 general ever. I'd probably only put Alexander ahead of him. Khan would probably round out my top-3. Would love to read other posters opinions on this, especially those more well versed in history than myself.

Those are fun videos. I’d have paid attention to history class if my teachers were even 10% that engaging.

Yeah. He's funny. I love how he turns Hannibal into a raging toddler at times. Funny, simple yet detailed enough for me to learn more, and he seems to knew his shit.

Hell yeah. Every three or so months I take a break from other hobbies and watch YouTube deep dives/listen to podcasts on a history or discovery subject for a week or so. Thank you for giving me my next one! I've done Rome but know nothing about Carthage outside of Hannibal and his dad. Will definitely catch this later
