Got more good news today. My one mamasan texted me to let me know that she's has 5 new girls starting today. I found them in a little bar that was doing no business, the girls were getting their 300 baht a day pay docked 100 baht so not making quota. Their 10 day contracts ended last night, so they're moving into the stay-in and getting their uniforms this afternoon.

My other good news is that my biggest competitor just shot himself in the foot. My beer and local liquor price is 85 baht, he just raised his price to 115 in all 20 of his bars. He also raised his room rate from 350 to 400. The message board is blowing up over the price raises and the fact that a lot of his girls are drink sluts, or charge much higher rates than most bars.

So people are dumb, drunk people moreso. How to ruin your vacation 101. Get mad because the prostitute you're buying drinks for is flirting with another guy. Decide to fight said guy, break a bottle and try to stab him. Get kicked out of bar. Sneak back in a few minutes later, get knocked out by the Muay Thai practioner bouncer, then zip tied and turned over to the police. A fun night in the bar next door, the drunk guy was lucky there weren't any extra shots while he was zip tied, the bouncer was very professional

Happy NY. It’s 7am here in 2024. I’m boring and not very social so we didn’t do anything and I was in bed at 11pm.

Like when I worked in a bank call centre and people thought it was funny to say “can you put a million dollars in my account” I give you the same response … “if I could do that I wouldn’t be here talking to you” :)

Fortunately no risk of tsunami for me, I don't live along the Sea of Japan coast. Pretty close proximity to the epicenter though so still shook pretty big where I am (shook for a good 30+ seconds, thankfully nothing fell). Staying alert and ready to evacuate at any given time.

Keep us posted on any developments and stay safe! The good news for Japan is that everything is built with disasters in mind. The last I saw was 6 people trapped under rubble, which is obviously horrible for those people and their families, but holy **** is that a far cry from similar disasters in other countries where thousands are trapped.
