They are making the show just as much about the town as they are the club.
Yeah and I like that. I just think that it is about balancing the town, the club, and the game. And the balance early in S2 was a touch more town stuff than I prefer. But, some of it was really well done. Like the mine disaster memorial episode was awesome. That worked for me because of the great job they did tying the town history to the club and the current day.

Fun fact. I've actually been to Wrexham a few times. I took in a rugby match between Wrexham and Mold (friends of my friend/colleague played for Mold). Don't know what level squad, but Mold definitely overmatched in both training and talent that day. Stood right at the corner of the pitch to watch the carnage. Everyone - and I mean everyone, both teams and all fans from both sides - entered the Wrexham club house afterwards for a pint and a plate of beans and franks / sausage, any animosities completely set aside.

Best part of having rugby friends in college was the drink ups. Although I've never before, or since, seen so many dudes in one place excited to hang dong and drink beer from dirty boots. Ruggers are weird

It's so hard to not recognize Buffalo and Buffalonians in Wrexham and it's citizens.

I played pick-up hockey for the first time in 4 years last night. It went alright. The skate shop was closed, so I also had to skate on skates that hadn't been sharpened in 4 years (Ive done about 5 or 6 open skates in that 4 year span, so the blades were pretty dull).

It's weird being one of the older players now. im 35, which isnt all that old, but pick-up is littered with college kids. I kept pace pretty well. Playing half ice 3 v 3 helped in that regard.

Looking forward to playing more. Im pretty sore this morning, but a nice light strength workout and some yoga should help a lot. There's nothing like the cardio workout I get from playing hockey, though!

People are stupid. Today you had these punk ass kids probably mid 20s making fun of this gentleman. The British guy just sat there listening to their bs. He had the multiple broken nose, cauliflower ears, busted knuckles so at first glance you go, not messing with him. One of the punks walks over, pushes him them bam punk goes down. Friends get involved and tackled out into the street, the older gentleman just beating these kids down and asking who else. People are dumb, drunk people much dumber.

In petty news that I learned today:

Minnesota has a Confederate battle flag from Virginia that they captured in battle. Every year Virginia asks for it back, every year Minnesota says "no."

<big square flag>
Been about a decade since I saw it in person, but at Old Fort Niagara, there is a simply massive flag (22'x28') on display from War of 1812 era. Link above has its rich 200+ year history, including some happy accidents and the linkage to Fort McHenry's star spangled banner. Note it represents 15 states = 15 stars, and 15 stripes (8 red, 7 white) vs. the 13 stripes (7 red 6 white) for the original colonies which later became the norm, although the historical society notes tht by the time it was commissioned/fabricated, there were 17 states.

Broke 200 for the first time ever in bowling last night with a 210! I used to bowl a good bit more as a kid, this is just a casual/social league I'm in with some good friends. Our screen sort of glitched in the second game and wasn't going down to display my score until I was actually getting a pin count on my shots, then moved back up to the top to display the first person's score. While I knew I was doing well since I got a turkey and was stringing a bunch of spares together, I didn't know my exact score until the 10th when I got a strike on my first shot, stepped back to let the person next to me go because the pins on my lane were taking a while to reset, and saw I had a 180-something in the 8th.

How much do you pay for bowling in the US? We paid 80 bucks for 2 hours on one lane
When I bowled it was per game, or on Friday or Saturday night you would do flat rate for like 3 hours and they would do the black lights and strobes and music and all that. On a side note my grandmother is in the Greater Buffalo USBC Hall of Fame and also did Strikes, Spares and Misses and Beat The Champs on local TV broadcasts.

It's been a few years but I recall taking the kiddos, my ex and my mom to family bowling and paying like $20 for a couple hours. I did youth league stuff through 8th grade, had a lot of family who played in leagues but I haven't been in a few years.

I remember that on local Buffalo TV on Saturday mornings. Pretty sure it was Channel 4 WBEN / WIVB (or maybe Channel 7 WKBW). Definitely not WGR/WGRZ.

Shockingly, it looks like there is still a version of the show out there -

One of my mates is an old bouncer, veeeeery experienced martial artist and looks like a house on shoes. It’s amazing that people would still have a go at him. He would make them look ridiculous. He wouldn’t even damage them, he just generally propelled them in a different direction. Or if he really needed to, get a hold of them so that they very quickly got the point, then walked them out. My favourite was the time someone took a swing at him, he made space for them and gently assisted them to fall flat on their face. He held their forearms as they stood up and the words out of the guy’s mouth “stop it, that’s really mean.”

My wife's surgery went well and she is home and recovering.

There were only two minor hiccups. First, her surgeon had to do an emergency surgery, so her surgery started roughly 90 minutes later than planned. The second was a couple of mistakes with her post-op bloodwork which caused them to need to draw blood three times.

And they didn't call down and tell me she was in her room on the floor, so I was waiting in the lobby longer than needed. The front desk lady was awesome and told me that "she isn't going to call up and find out when my wife got to her room because it will just piss me off."

She came home less than 24 hours after the surgery was finished and other than looking like she got shanked in a prison shower and being tired, things are going well.
