Last hurrah type day-trip to Atlanta today. Taking my daughter and also my GF to a concert for my daughter's birthday (which is in two months), also in part because I won't see her for most of July. Luckily, I have a dog sitter in town in the lad who can stay over with the doggos if we decide to not drive back tonight.

So ...any chance the Sabres sign their Russian prospects today and get them on a flight?

Tomorrow marks two weeks without working climate control at the apartment. Woke up a couple of Sundays ago really warm - checked the thermostat & it read 75. We normally keep it around 70. We changed the HVAC filter in case it was clogged - didn't do anything to remediate the problem. When I turn the system on, there's not a lot of airflow and the air isn't all that cool.

Our apartment complex says we're "on the list" to get the A/C fixed. They don't have a HVAC tech on staff and have to contract out with a vendor. Completely understandable.

What's not understandable is why it's taking so long for them to come out to fix it. We're into summer now. Last night was miserable with the humidity. How long before I'm able to tell them you're not getting rent until this is fixed?

Hopefully it gets resolved before the real heat starts. Good luck, Burg!

Celebrating the solstice?
Sounds like your company is operating under the Pelosi principle
We have to pass the approval to pay you to know how much we should pay you...

Left MIA to LHR last Saturday. Spent week in England. Saw Patagotitan titanosaur at natural history museum, London Tower (which is far more than just a tower), Crown Jewels, Tower Bridge St Paul’s Cathedral. Train to Oxford, cruise on Thames, Christ Church college.

Burton on the water and the Slaughters where royal family visits.
Stonehenge the day after the solstice.

On to Bath and friends in Saltford (hosted us, now retired) and we’re 20 miles away from opening night of Glastonbury, watched the Churn-Ups (Foo Fighters) on BBC live. Drove to LHR today (only stalled out once and it’s been 30 years since I drove stick) and flew to Munich. Danube cruise starts tomorrow. Wife and I having a blast for her 50th birthday.

That sounds incredible. Enjoy!

NOPE. They've gotten back to us today (after we sent a email saying we've heard nothing other than "we're on the list") - and they can't get to us until July 10. The communication between the complex and the HVAC company has apparently been lax as well - the complex didn't even get that information until Friday.

There are "significant amounts" of units down. One contractor is repairing units; one is replacing them. There's a lot of frustration around, for sure.

The other thing which really sucks: I don't believe we can withhold rent or get any kind of reduction. Based on that alone, I think we'll be moving again sooner rather than later.

Will fix everything
Has anyone in their workplace received a company wide raise, approved by management/ownership after much deliberation...and then been told to wait 4-6 weeks for focus group meetings to determine exactly how much more money you'll make? Oh also, don't send emails to HR about it because they need this time to develop a new pay scale that will determine exactly what your new pay will be. Trust us though...you're getting a raise we just can't tell you what it is for a while?

So my previous employer was talking about doing a mass ‘market correction’ for certain roles and it’d be revealed at our mid year review if we were getting a market correction. I never found out if I was getting one because I was laid off lol. So maybe watch out lol

If hes a gov employee he probably doesnt need to worry about layoffs because they generally don't lay people off, if hes a gov contractor different story.

Yeah gov't employee not at risk of a layoff. Plenty of other pitfalls to avoid, but not that one. If anything, with a 20% loss of employees the last two years, I'm much safer. I can't come in drunk, but maybe cleaning a fish at my desk might fly (can't resist an Office Space reference).

My GM is killing me. Calls me up and says he needs $800 for new uniforms for our 3 new bars. He ordered 120 branded lycra shorts / top outfits. Asked him why the price is higher than quoted and he excitedly adds that they gave him 1/2 price for 60 sets each of nurse, French maid, and bunny outfits complete with ears.

Now he just needs to boost the girl numbers as the spreadsheet only show around 10 in each after he let the big ones go

The issue which I just rectified is that I had him order 70 more of the bunny and French maid outfits as the original bars don't have them and I don't want anymore infighting between the bars. Now he can schedule theme nights with outfits and shots

This may be my favorite movie crossover meme ever. I have been wanting to watch it too and after seeing this the other day on social media and now your post today, I’m definitely going to have to watch it this weekend.

Office Space is hilarious. I watch it at least once a year. That and Dirty Work. They’re probably the only two movies I actually rewatch.

I don’t mind LOTR, but I have the special extended editions that are like 4 hours each, so they take forever to watch. I bought the entire box set (so 12 discs for all 3 movies) of it back in the day for the exact same price as the first one because the store put the wrong price on it.

I love LOTR. I had read all the books before they were movies and still love the books and all the movies. But yes they are long. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the battle for Helm’s Deep is my favorite (and imho the best ever done) cinematic battle/fight scene ever.
