Move of the spawn complete. Glad there were some younger hands to sling some things, that couch was so much easier with five of us instead of just two.

You need to do it the Spanish way. My coworker was having a sleeper sofa delivered from the PX, couldn't go through the door and the windows had bars on it. Maintenance shows up, looks over the scene then sledgehammers the frame and wall to make room. Of course he then spent a few hours reblocking and setting the door for the princely sum of a carton of Marlboros and a couple beers. I never felt more secure in my apartment down the hall than that morning

Nate survived orientation and safety training yesterday and is working from 10-5 today. Dad can breathe easier now that his search for a summer job is over.

He had a doubleheader last night. He didn't know any of his teammates as the one guy he knows (assistant coach with his college team) was not there. His college faceoff guy was on the other team that they played though. They split the games and had a positive goal differential. He said he was way better in game 2, which isn't surprising as he was likely rusty in game 1.

And the black turf at his home stadium is starting to be laid down today.

Finally got a response today from the agent I've been waiting on for three and a half months. She rejected it. This being the agent who loved the concept and requested me expand it and resubmit. She rejected it without even requesting the full thing.

Has anyone in their workplace received a company wide raise, approved by management/ownership after much deliberation...and then been told to wait 4-6 weeks for focus group meetings to determine exactly how much more money you'll make? Oh also, don't send emails to HR about it because they need this time to develop a new pay scale that will determine exactly what your new pay will be. Trust us though...you're getting a raise we just can't tell you what it is for a while?

Sounds like your company is operating under the Pelosi principle

I work for a gov't agency that operates with different pay scales for different departments. The main HR dep't doesn't actually work under or understand our pay scale. This is just the latest curious case of one hand not knowing what the other does. I'm just wondering how messed up this scenario is compared to the private sector.

As someone who works with various government agencies domestic and abroad, I can say the lack of consistency within government agencies in the IT world makes trying to do stuff fun.

I know some people who work on the front end interface for a couple of government programs and they regularly vent about it. It's like the worst of corporate IT, but with the added manure layers of Congressional "oversight", judicial review, and executive policy wrangling.

For us, it isn't even that. It is the IT managers of each agency have their own little fiefdoms and the requirements, especially around security, and workflows are not the same across the board.

Just clicked on a Athletic.com article, knowing I wouldn't be able to read it (paywall)

But did anyway, a link came up for a $1/month sub (for 12 months)

if anyone is interested

Feel bad for the 19 year old kid on that sub. Didn’t want to go but did for his dad. Dying because your rich pops wanted to do too much is a fitting metaphor for how we’re leaving the world for younger generations.

So a Chrome extension to bypass paywalls gets the boot and is no longer allowed yet in Apple land they have a mode on their browser that lets everyone bypass paywalls? lol

Yes, I am aware of the uBlock Origin filter alternative option.

I'm on an island in the baktic sea getting two new kittens. Pretty great midsummer weekend and was ready for sleep but the news from Russia is something else. Stay safe russian posters!
