You might be correct. It is hard to know as there isn’t transparency around the management contracts. If you recall when he was first named GM he was basically operating on his AGM contract still until Rutherford left Pittsburgh and his name was floated for the Oens GM job that went to Hextall. At that point I think Friedman reported he got a real GM contract. That was the deal expiring this year or next .

we need a new voice behind the benches and we need a new voice on the ice. nico yucking it up laughing on the bench with bratt while down multiple goals in a game that effectively ends your season — a season where you opened up tied for 2nd in the east for cup odds and didn’t even make the f***ing playoffs.

ugh god yeah we’d be so much better off with Ruff.
you get these weird, hyper fixated obsessions and I cannot understand why you possibly chose an interim head coach who will obviously never be fired to focus it on. he was given ruff’s dumpster fire, minus toffoli and colin miller, and you’re surprised he’s not faring as well as Lindy Ruff?

Look it’s fair to question Nico’s off ice leadership but taking off the C is jumping the shark. There is nobody else on the current roster close to worthy of it either including Palat - if you’re gonna slag Nico for the off ice stuff then where is Mr. Cup winner? - so you’re either pissing off your best overall player to have a three A system (which never works with any kind of a serious team) or bring in a mercenary captain, not ideal

He’s only in the discussion for best overall player when healthy and mentally engaged, and he’s been neither for months
Nico as Captain is fine. He’s the team’s best overall player, and frankly gives a consistent effort. He isn’t going to be Scott Stevens and look like he is going to throw a skate at you, but that is fine. Those guys are more rare than you think. The stern taskmaster needs to be the coach with the captain being the pat on the shoulder guy. Not the other way around.

I've been hyper fixated obsessively on Green LONG before he took over.
That's why I was pretty much saying no to firing Ruff.
Green is worse than Ruff.
Guy is a worthless shit bag coach and proved that in Vancouver, long before I had the nightmare of him ever working on this staff.

I've plenty of these same type of games with Ruff so he is just following the Ruff plan. Next year we need a coach with a different vision.

Eh the captain has to sometimes get down and dirty too, but it’s not Nico’s personality which is his one drawback so you need that from the coach - which we don’t have either.
I don’t know if he is following Ruff’s vision as much as Green was heavily influencing Ruff’s vision this year.

I've been wondering this and have been convinced of this all year.
I'm convinced he had A LOT to do with why we've struggled to score this year (or at least score less than we should) and the rush game looks not as good. Yes, the team is slower than last year, but even the guys who aren't slow aren't a consistent threat to run and down the ice and score on every other shift like they were last year. And I've wondered if Green has a lot to do with that. Green wasn't here in 21-22, but the team looked kind of similar in the scoring department and the power play was somehow even worse. The 22-23 Devils looked like the 21-22 Panthers that some guy we don't talk about was the coach for, and who worked here last year and has a mediocre team in the West in the playoffs right now.....
I can't prove Green has heavily influencing Ruff's vision this year or what exactly he's done, because I don't know for sure. All we know is he coached the power play and the only thing good I can say for that is that it isn't as bad as when Recchi coached it.
We know he coaches/coached the forwards, but exactly what he did in coaching the forwards? I don't know for sure.

This team f***ing sucks. Spotting up 3 goals on some dumb defense and dumb goaltending. Wasting 2 PPs and then doing nothing for 1 and 3/4 periods.
F this season. Losing to that crappy team makes us the real losers.

I'm more mad we lost Brunette than anyone else that gets talked about on here daily. Like the players that went to UFA or trade.
So we let him go to Nashville. We hired Travis Green to replace him, which is a problem even if he were just replacing Adam Oates or Geoff Ward. We gave Ruff his option for this year (fine), then gave him a ''Multi-year extension'' right before the start of the regular season (not fine, but not my money, so I don't care) only to fire him 60 games into the season and probably coming to terms with the fact that he wasn't gonna make next year by about 30 games into the year.
I was saying even before last year ended that they should let Ruff come back for one more year, tell everybody behind the scenes that Ruff will not coach the team in 24-25 and that Brunette will take over as head coach that year.
I'm not convinced Ruff wasn't on the hot seat already when Brunette was hired here. The finger was on the button for Ruff in the 1st intermission of game 3 of last season.
