TSN1200 has dropped the ball on promotions since a bit before covid, and I think it has really cost them.
Back in the day they had great win and you're in parties, for the 1st NFL game of the year, the Superbowl, Sens lower level boxes, football boxes, etc..
You had a couple of weeks to win a ticket, and if you did, it meant an event with dozens or even hundreds of like-minded fans, free beers and pizza, and a fun night out. It felt like the listeners were a club, and people were vested in the station.
Not only these events, but great prizes like hockey camps and SuperBowl tickets to be won.
Regular, exciting reasons to listen and it spurred a lot of buzz, and consistent listening.
Covid came, the Sens play dropped, and now they give out small prizes on the shows with few gatherings.
Steve Warne was a key cog in building rivalries and controversies with other teams, to the point Leaf fans couldn't help but tune in. he's gone.
Frat boy humour and real rivalries among on air guys about their favourite teams. Who didn't want to be listening when Versage's Cowboys blew yet another playoff game?
I went to tons of events, and starting bringing my boys when they got older. They and their friends were ripe to buy in to 'the club' and drive ratings for years to come. Then covid and a seemingly lazy marketing effort kicked in, and those boys get their sports content elsewhere, along with their friends.
Seems like the new formula doesn't work. Why not try the proven approach again?
