Can't stand listening to Dave Smart. He's got that smug, know it all attitude.
Can't argue with his record though, pretty much confirms he does know-it-all when it comes to Canadian University Basketball & what it takes to be a winner.

Uncle.. I surrender, you win.

Please no more!!!. No more; Dan Patrick, No more Collin Cowherd. No more Jim Tatti.

End summer early. Bring back the 3 shows.. Have; AJ, Bunda, Vowels, Lloyd, Hamer, Walls, Creech, et all, back at the Mic.

Heck, take "She's got game" and turn into 4 hours. I am warming up to Schreiter's male bashing. Give Gord and Dean a 4 hour show.. Anything!!!!!

6 weeks now of Commercials being interrupted by some content.. And Jim Tatti talking gambling..

UN f'NG REAL.. Cowherd and Patrick are 4 minutes on, 2 minutes imbedded commercials, 4 minute commercial break.. Rinse and repeat 6 times.. When on for 4 minutes, 1-2 minutes are idiot banter.. leaving the show at 2-3 minutes of content. Patrick and Cowherd are on for 2 hours and deliver 24-36 minutes of content, for both hours.

They make CNN and FOX seem like they're overflowing with content!!! And Jim Tati is a 67 year old teenager, who is clearly being sponsored by gambling sites.

We need to bring back Warren, and Simmer and Lee and Duke and Angry Al, and so on... BRING BACK THE PANDA.... It was wonderful being accused of being a rapist or an abuser just because I am a male. I never thought that I would miss it.

Wait, here is a plan.. the Panda and Schreiter... HUH !!!! A 4 hour show. I will start a go fund me page to pay for it.

they will eventually merge with 580 CFRA.
You have the Sens, The Redblacks, The 67's, the BlackJacks, Athletico Ottawa.

Do you envision 580 becoming 1/3 news, 1/3 sports talk, 1/3 other?

How will sports messaging go out? On-line? What is happening in other cities? Funny, I take them for granted. 25-26 years now. I lived in Southern Ontario before that and had 590 (The FAN). It has been 30 years since I was in a city with no 24 hour sports talk radio.

But Chabot is still #1 right? lol

Well both stations are owned and controlled by Bell, and at times during the year, there is s need to have CFRA broadcast a sporting event when TSN 1200 is already obligated to broadcast the Sens game, or RedBlacks game… so there is a need for Bell to hold onto both Stations… for now… if listenership dwindles, as it has been for awhile, the advertising dollars just won’t be there, and the Radio Broadcast rights for the 67s or Blackjacks might move over to the internet and be streamed, and Bell might just merge, as you suggest, the two stations…. It all comes down to listeners and advertisers.

I think there are some MLB teams that have made the move to streaming already.

The way I see it is they will keep the morning and afternoons for CFRA and lets say 2 pm switch over to sports until 6 or until after the post game on game nights.

As it stands both station are almost complete garbage now. The evenings on CFRA is mind numbing boring. At midnight they used to play coast to coast which at least could be entertaining. Now it's just toronto, boring, topic-less radio. Mornings on 1310 am is legit interesting. Weekend they play some sports and bluejays.

That could happen, and if there was way to drive the top rated local radio station (for about two decades)into the ground, what they’re doing at CFRA over the past three years or so, is the way.
You could pretty much listen to that station from 6am onwards pretty much through the entire day until 6pm… and yes, Coast to Coast overnight was super entertaining…. Still download episodes (podcasts) to listen to on long road trips…… and with TSN1200 could listen to them all day, day when they carried Jim Rome especially…..

Hey Stylizer,

what do think will happen on the TV side? Can TSN and Sportsnet survive as they are now?

There is nothing on!!! And when they do put something on, it is commercials interrupted by some content.

I watched the Spain/Sweden match.. from 6 onwards, its was a 1/2 recap show. 20 minutes of commercials, 10 minutes of content. The 10 MINUTES OF CONTENT WAS THEM HEEING AND HAWING AND OFFERING ABOUT AS DEEP AN ANALYSIS AS if a child was doing it. They might as well have talked about the color of the uniforms or the design of the ball. Absolutely worthless.

And this show will be replayed 10-12 times a day on one channel and a good 3-4 times on TSN's other channels.

Who is watching? How are advertisers paying?

And TSN offers 10 times more content than Rogers.. Rogers shows a baseball game a day and nothing else. The REST OF The DAY IS A REPEAT OF THEIR NEWS HOUR.

You could record TSN1-5, Rogers' East-West and Rogers One.. for 24 hours, and watch about 12 hours of content. 8 channels at 24 hours, filter down to 12 hours.. 192 hours become 12.. Its like buying a litre of milk and having it delivered by a tanker truck.

How are advertisers okay with this?

Man, it is slim pickings on Team1200. The American shows that they carry are boring/terrible for the most part and the locals are basically a skeleton crew, at best.

At least when the Sens season starts they'll have something to talk about.

Feel bad for everyone fired and even those still working there since they surely know they are dead men walking.

I can receive TSN 690 Montreal in my vehicle… find that I listen to it more often these days, as they don’t carry US content during the day, as far as I can tell.

here are 33 stations in Ottawa. You can google teh ratings and see teh list. Those 33 stations serve 1-1.2 M people.

Ridicules!

It over segments the market.

So now they are chasing crumbs. In a city with a small corporate base and so how much advertising is available??????

The CRTC is killing intermediate markets by not regulating the number of licenses. Ottawa should be at 10-15 max. Even there that is on teh high side.

no..it has been this way, year around for a solid 5-6 years.

from 2000-2015, I could rely on just about every sport under the sun on one of the stations (TSN1-5, Sportsnet1-5). Today, nothing.

I am a huge F1 fan.. It was once, Thursday practice and set up day..so 1-2 hours. Friday was Fp 1 and FP 2, so 2-3 hours. Saturday Qualifying 1-3 hours, the F2 race 1 hour and the W series race 1 hour. Then Sunday a good 4 hours.

A race weekend was 15-20 hours of racing. Today, we are down to 7 all told,, FP2 on Friday ~ 2 Hours. Qualifying on Saturday ~ 2 Hours, and race Sunday ~ 3 hours.

Incredible how sports programing has fallen off a cliff.

What are people doing? We are buying the 85" TV, but using it to do what?

Our behinds are getting wider and wider, so its not like we are outdoors exercising!!! Is it that we are simply watching the Masked Singer and nothing more? But the ratings for those shows are 1/5 of what top rated shows got in the 19990's.

What the hell is everyone doing in their homes (because no one goes out). No one cooks, no one sews, no one cleans, no one exercises, no one does much.

Damn! internet porn must be booming. I suppose it would be something else on an 85" TV screen..

Don’t know about everyone else… only for myself and my circle of friends…. We play golf at least three times a week beginning when the first courses open, until they close them down.

I also do all the shopping for my household, 85-90% of all the cooking ( no we don’t eat out ) all the necessary yard work not just for my property but my neighbours as well. There the garden as well, that needs attention.

Hardly listen to TSN 1200 after the Draft/Free Agency/Trades are done with, as am not a follower of MLB or the CFL.

watch Golf on Sundays if the leader board is close.

As for TV viewing, TCM movies, Impractical Jokers and political discussion shows on various networks… so don’t exactly fit into your assessment of what people are doing …

TSN didn't have a second station until 2008 so I don't know how you were finding sports on TSN 2-5 back in 2000. And Sportsnet 2-5 don't exist.

Dude, do you fantasies of being a lawyer that you are living out? Or do you want politics.

Law school is easy. Re-apply as an adult student to U of O or Carleton. Study POLITICAL SCIENCE. GET REALLY HIGH GRADES AND APPLY TO LAW SCHOOL.

Now, It helps to get a letter of recommendation from someone. So volunteer to work for your local MP. 2-3 years later, She/He writes you a letter. And if your grades are good, in you go. You can be a lawyer in 4-5 years. After that, you can knit pick others to death.

If politics is your goal.. learn to ass kiss, join a party, ass kiss its upper echelon, then they endorses your candidacy. It will take 5-10 years, and you may get in. You may need a face lift, Botox, teeth whitening, hair plugs..after all its how you look and not what you know that matters.

Can you please leave me alone... I mean, I hate lawyers and politicians. And you seem to feel a need to jump in, not only on me, but on others..

Easy Dude..easy.. I man easy..

I will have to call you Myron for a while.

TSN1200 has dropped the ball on promotions since a bit before covid, and I think it has really cost them.

Back in the day they had great win and you're in parties, for the 1st NFL game of the year, the Superbowl, Sens lower level boxes, football boxes, etc..

You had a couple of weeks to win a ticket, and if you did, it meant an event with dozens or even hundreds of like-minded fans, free beers and pizza, and a fun night out. It felt like the listeners were a club, and people were vested in the station.

Not only these events, but great prizes like hockey camps and SuperBowl tickets to be won.

Regular, exciting reasons to listen and it spurred a lot of buzz, and consistent listening.

Covid came, the Sens play dropped, and now they give out small prizes on the shows with few gatherings.

Steve Warne was a key cog in building rivalries and controversies with other teams, to the point Leaf fans couldn't help but tune in. he's gone.

Frat boy humour and real rivalries among on air guys about their favourite teams. Who didn't want to be listening when Versage's Cowboys blew yet another playoff game?

I went to tons of events, and starting bringing my boys when they got older. They and their friends were ripe to buy in to 'the club' and drive ratings for years to come. Then covid and a seemingly lazy marketing effort kicked in, and those boys get their sports content elsewhere, along with their friends.

Seems like the new formula doesn't work. Why not try the proven approach again?

From first hand knowledge, those working at the station expect it to close in 2026. The only reason they haven’t already is that radio coverage was built into Ottawa’s TV deal with TSN.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the Send opted for a daily podcast or YouTube show that do in-house.

Dedicated Sens content and the ability to better control marketing etc.
