Tribute The Official "Fire Tortorella" Thread

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Re Shaw - I would be interested to see how he approaches a head coach position. I have liked his press conferences so far, and what he's done when Torts isn't behind the bench in terms of player deployment.
My issue with Shaw is that if Tortorella is in the FO after this season, as many have predicted, will he allow Shaw or anyone to coach the club without his interference. If Sullivan were to take over, I can see him having the stature to tell Torts to go pound sand. Shaw, not so much.

The part that kills me is, the Flyers are in track to be possibly last place in the East, with some absolutely abysmal seasons, bad offense and low skill from skilled players, and yet they still want him in the FO? This future is f***ed and everyone should f***ing immediately be asking for a trade.

I personally think Torts is probably the #1 person you don't want to be playing for, under any circumstances, even if he's not the coach. If he had it his way, this entire team would be a Laughtons. Nothing else.

oh its coming.. when hes moved up to FO, then he will REALLY start selecting who and what he sign here...

and any new HC will simply be a Torts yes man who runs the team the way Torts wants.. itll basicly be Torts still as HC but without the travel and bench time...

What is the consensus around here regarding JT? Extension? Ride it out? Resigns moves into another role.

I believe he gets a 2-year ext. Not as sold on that as I was a week to 10 days go as the results are putrid. He has too big an ego to just be an “advisor” with no or limited say so don’t see that as an option.

Can’t see him being a lame duck as he said he wouldn’t do that again, unless he is full of it which is possible.

I do think a part of this is they now have to sell him on staying a HC.

The goaltending in particular, don’t think he’s coming back if Briere doesn’t promise an upgrade.

There is no chance that the God emperor Shitbag the First walks away. They’d have to fire him. And I don’t think Briere even has the power to do so.

Honestly, I hope he’s back next year. It’s the best chance they have to completely bottom out and get a good shot at McKenna. Finishing with 60-65 points next season might cause a big enough drop in attendance, merch sales and ratings for Comcast to actually notice. Don’t forget, they plan on building a new stadium soon and they’ll want their hockey team to not be hot garbage by that time. Back to back finishes of 16th in the conference might be enough for them to fire everyone from Hilferty on down.

He has to go ASAP. Someone once said that you can't fire the team when it's going bad so you fire the coach. In the case of Tortorella it's gone the opposite way. He's been allowed to knock off top draft choices right and left; run over goaltenders; maintain horrible coaches and avoid accountability. Last night he pretty much admitted that he's not up for coaching a rebuilding young team and dealing with the losing. Fine; get lost. Briere should cut him today.
Briere, and perhaps Jones, have had the premiss that they would stockpile draft choices as part of the rebuild. That's not going to work with Tortorella around. He can't develop young players. In fact he doesn't want them around. He wants vets. He's more interested in his legacy which calls for wins not payer improvement. So there's an insurmountable disconnect between Briere and Tortorella. The only solution is for Tortorella to leave and the sooner the better.

If I'm being perfectly honest, even though I f***ing hate this management, I think Torts and all the asst coaches are gone by the end of the season and they hire someone immediately afterwards. If Briere has any kind of brain, he would keep this shit-tastic coaching staff to get the best pick possible.

Any wins that we get from him squeezing blood the stone that is this roster are more than offset by the awful personnel decisions and stagnation of half of the young players on the roster. He is not the coach of a rebuild and needs to go.

My gut says the team moves him upstairs to some kind of management capacity in the offseason, though. Which is also a mistake but this team can't help itself.

You think he may walk away?

I think a conversation about his future with the team has already happened, and if not will happen.

I’ll be pleasantly surprised if he isn’t made a senior advisor, and a powerful one at that.

If Briere doesn’t sell him on improvements for next season, I’m not sure Torts goes into next year behind the bench. I don’t know if I see that.

I think he stays for 1 more season at most, he'll be "promoted" when he decides to move on.

The best moves by Briere would be:
  • "Promote"/part-ways with Torts at the end of the season and fire all the assistant coaches.
  • Hire a new coach to bring the kids along further
  • Embrace the tank for 2026 draft, with Fedotov/Kolosov as your main goalies (trade Ersson).
  • Do not sign any major UFA's until summer 2026
  • Package Tippett and Foerester with some 2027 draft picks for 2026 ones

I just don’t think you can bring him back, and I’m one that has always been 100% team tank.

You’re looking at Michkov damage at this point. Hes the only one I really care about, but we’ve seen him dicked around this year also.

It was stupid of them to rush him over so early. But as always, the Comcast Flyers have always just been about positive vibes, sales, and PR.

i feel bad for anyone thinking theres light at the end of the Torts tunnel..

theres only 1 outcome thats gunna happen.

hes moving upstairs, were he will have even MORE power over roster/team/Org. direction..

he will hand select his "yes" man HC who will simply do what Torts wants but allows Torts to not have to travel or be behind the bench anymore..

i fully suspect Lappy becomes the new HC who will of course be a complete abject failure wasting yet another 2-3 years off MMs career..

there is nothing but darkness, why ? because this Org. will never change..

Danny can’t fire them unless he gets permission.

They have never embraced any tank, and they won’t start now. As that would admit the last 2 years have been a total failure for starters. So really starting from scratch.

There is no way they bring back all 3 goalies. Fedotov IMO will not be back in the organization at all. They have the Carson kid in the AHL, so they need to find room for him. Kolosov is a strange dude so who knows what happens with him. They must address bringing in a competent solid goalie. Cant continue to have slop.

They will try 100% to get free agents this summer. This is the 3rd off season for Briere and the team is the same. Whether they get them is to be determined.

They have zero interest in moving those 2 as they see them as part of the solution no problem. Plus, Flyers do not do good drafting and developing. Rather trade for more established younger players.

That would be awesome. Though is he a Torts "guy"?
