How would he have obtained a top 6 center? What top 6 centers moved? Have to give to get.

Are you 100% sure the Flyers didn't try to get a top 6 center and top pair dman?

Always excuses. They battled when the Caps took the foot off the gas.

Because they are an incompetent organization. After years of futility the still have gaping holes. But hey the future looks good right?
Who is they? Briere has been running things for less than 2 years.
He added a center in Poehling, dumped one in Hayes.
First draft took Barkey (now a LW), Ceirnak and Knuble
Second draft took Luchanko, Berglund (now in SHL) and Ruohonen
Third draft? Probably take 2-3 more center candidates.

Centers are hard to find. (Two year ES average)
Boston: Lindholm (35), Zacha (46), Coyle (42)
Carolina: Aho (52), Kotkaniemi (33), Staal (29)
Colorado: MacKinnon (85), Mittelstadt (45), Kelly (15)
Dallas: Hintz (47), Duchene (46), Steel (23)
Edmonton: McDavid (81), Draistail (65), Henrique (32)
Florida: Barkov (48), Lundell (28), Bennett (30)
NJ: Nico (53), Hughes (56), Haula (31)
NYR: Trocheck (50), Zibanejad (43), Chytil (31)
TB: Point (62), Cirelli (31), Paul (30)
Toronto: Matthews (67), Domi (41), Tavares (43)
Vancouver: Miller (52), Pettersson (62), Bleuger (20)
Vegas: Eichel (48), Hertl (53), Schwindt
Winnipeg: Schiefele (50), Namestnikov (27), Lowry (30)

PHL: Frost (36), Couts (20), Laughton (27), Cates (22), Poehling (17)

Meh. It's 7 games.

They don't have the centers to build stable lines, each is flawed in a way that makes it tough to build lines.

Frost played with Tippett, TK, Atkinson and Farabee last season, the other lines, except for Poehling/Hathaway were just as jumbled.

They were 26th in ES goals last year, 20th in expected ES goals.
[Crazy as it seems, they had more xGF than Boston and Vegas, but veterans finish]
It's not like a good offensive team has gotten off to a bad start.

You can't both want them not to trade assets for veterans and not want them to suck.
Rebuilding is ugly.
Play a lot of young players, make a lot of mistakes.
Just a moment ago you said
“This year they actually have a full roster of forwards”

Now you say “they don’t have the centers to build stable lines”

Things like this are why no one takes you seriously. You are an apologist for the organization, and you won’t criticize Torts until he is gone. Just as you didn’t criticize Fletcher and AV and all the other previous failures until they were gone.

They do have a full stable of forwards. They're not playing guys like Leier, Weal, Lehtera, VdV etc.
The problem is they don't have the right mix of forwards.

At some point Briere may trade a RW for a center or LW.

Misfit toys.

TK and Michkov prefer the right side, Brink is a RW as well as Hathaway.
Foerster and Tippett are RWs playing LW.
Farabee is in a bad funk.
Cates, Laughton and maybe Couts are probably better at LW than center.
Luchanko should really be in the CHL.

So you have one, maybe two, legitimate top 9 centers, 6 RWs and 1 LW, with 2 LWs alternating at center.

And you wonder why it's a mess?

Not signing Tippett and Konecny to 8-year deals, and not giving Hathaway an extension would have helped with the glut of RWers. This team creates its own problems.

They are the Philadelphia Flyers.

You say centers are hard to find yet on the other side of your mouth you say the Flyers didn't acquire any. Which you say means that shows they are rebuilding. Laughable.

Long post that says nothing.

I won't debate with people that think Frost and Couts are not MILES better than Cates, Laughton and Poheling.
Never said nor implied that. Not sure how you draw that conclusion from the post I responded to.

Some of the takes here are downright silly.

Notice how calm Torts is in his pressers, if he really thought this was a PO caliber team he'd be smokin'! Instead he's showing the patience of Job. He knows this is a long-term process.

The line shuffling is more about the future, taking notes on who looks comfortable with whom and in what role.
Last season was just trying to patch together two decent lines.
This year they actually have a full roster of forwards, but still putting the jigsaw puzzle together.

Every word of this is nonsense. He sucks ass. The only thing "long-term" about this is all the weaknesses he's been displaying for 20 years coming to a head, again, as always.

So if they have a full stable of forwards, playing Deslauriers is a blatant mistake, right? And you will call it out as such?

They just played Nic D in b2b games, he’s worse than anyone you named. Hathaway is no better than VdV either.

But just keep on playing apologist, you do it well.

I see some slight improvements with Deslauriers, in that they are starting to play him less regularly as time goes on.

Now, him still being on the roster at all, being in any games over actual players, and his contract are all still problems. But at least he isn't on track to play 80 games or whatever it was 2 seasons ago. The smallest of improvements.
