I think that this club will try to rally around each other and demand a more effective coach and leadership. With proper coaching these players are better than they’ve been allowed to show with Torts coaching. Right now they’re a laughing stock. I can see MM being the one that goes to DB representing the players and demanding a change behind the bench.
I could definitely imagine the players going to management about a new coach… but I can also definitely easily imagine these management idiots siding with Torts over the entire roster because for some reason they worship the asshole and don’t have a single spine between them.

Some of the takes here are downright silly.

Notice how calm Torts is in his pressers, if he really thought this was a PO caliber team he'd be smokin'! Instead he's showing the patience of Job. He knows this is a long-term process.

The line shuffling is more about the future, taking notes on who looks comfortable with whom and in what role.
Last season was just trying to patch together two decent lines.
This year they actually have a full roster of forwards, but still putting the jigsaw puzzle together.

As usual with Tortorella, it's always the fault of the players; never him. He could turn chicken salad into chicken shit. If the players are properly prepared they play better. They wouldn't get into shouting matches with the coach while on the bench during the game. All Tortorella can give as excuses for bad play is that the roster is weak not that he doesn't have a clue how to improve their play.
Food for thought: just think how bad they would look if MM wasn't here. One nineteen year old kid is keeping the Flyers from being the laughing stock of the league.

I can see that management would publicly side with Torts up to a point. When the tickets don't get sold or turned down if offered; when the fans get up and leave mid game; when the boos cascade down on the ice; when the jerseys get tossed on to the rink, when the fans start to wear bags over their heads during the games, (all of which happened at the end of last season and probably will soon now)even a clueless management group can't help but take notice and act.

Michkov giveth and Michkov taketh away. He's responsible for a few 5x5 goals against, he has helped the PP but is a net liability at 5x5 right now b/c he's mistake prone. Notice how patient Torts has been with him.

If the Flyers were a good team, Michkov would be on the 3rd line playing sheltered minutes.
Instead, he's getting big minutes as a 19 year old, better for his development but worse for the team in the short-run.

People are overreacting to the start of the season.
We're still well within SSS territory, you'll have a better feel after 20 games or so.

They're committed to rebuilding, if they expected to be a PO team, Briere would have gone out and obtained a top six center and maybe a veteran D-man.

Which means Torts won't be judged by wins and losses, but how well players are developing, and a lot of that is mastering fundamentals and learning to play as a unit.

I'd rather see them lose like last night, battling and working past their funk, than winning games sloppy, being saved by a hot goalie from bad decisions.

Right now this team just needs to focus on the basics, don't get caught 3 deep, don't get caught out of position, back check consistently (TK saved a goal with a strong back check).

There's a reason most players peak from 25-29, both physical maturity but also the experience that allows them to play "without paralysis by analysis" - making plays instinctively. Drysdale is 22, 5th season but only 154 NHL and 14 AHL games. Whereas York at 24 has 62 AHL games and 176 NHL games.

They're running around on the ice like chickens with their heads cut off. Lines are being shuffled willy nilly between and inside of games. The same with defensive pairs. The result is a lack of continuity in play as well as a decline in confidence. Torts has managed to make decent players look like trash in the process. The sooner that he is away from the club the better the play will be.

Meh. It's 7 games.

They don't have the centers to build stable lines, each is flawed in a way that makes it tough to build lines.

Frost played with Tippett, TK, Atkinson and Farabee last season, the other lines, except for Poehling/Hathaway were just as jumbled.

They were 26th in ES goals last year, 20th in expected ES goals.
[Crazy as it seems, they had more xGF than Boston and Vegas, but veterans finish]
It's not like a good offensive team has gotten off to a bad start.

You can't both want them not to trade assets for veterans and not want them to suck.
Rebuilding is ugly.
Play a lot of young players, make a lot of mistakes.

I saw a stat before the game last night that said that the Flyers have tried 18 different line combinations, through 6 games! How can that be considered "more about the future"

Is not allowing your forward group to establish any chemistry good?

Misfit toys.

TK and Michkov prefer the right side, Brink is a RW as well as Hathaway.
Foerster and Tippett are RWs playing LW.
Farabee is in a bad funk.
Cates, Laughton and maybe Couts are probably better at LW than center.
Luchanko should really be in the CHL.

So you have one, maybe two, legitimate top 9 centers, 6 RWs and 1 LW, with 2 LWs alternating at center.

And you wonder why it's a mess?

Torst doesn't care one iota about the future. Stop with this BS. Wow he is calm. Def means he doesnt want the playoffs.

Never seen such devotion in a droid.

How would he have obtained a top 6 center? What top 6 centers moved? Have to give to get.

Are you 100% sure the Flyers didn't try to get a top 6 center and top pair dman?

Always excuses. They battled when the Caps took the foot off the gas.

Because they are an incompetent organization. After years of futility the still have gaping holes. But hey the future looks good right?

Like he does every year. He is not a consistent player.

So all these RW, yet the Wharton grad doesn't see fit to move any of them to address other needs?

It is a mess. Because they are incompetent.

This is why the authentics are already turning online.

There is ZERO structure to this team and their style of play just does not work anymore. Keeping Torts just to certainly replace him is moronic. But we all know Lappy will be promoted and the shit will contimeu.

That would be 100% the best thing to happen.

Other than PLD or Lindholm, what other "arguably top 6 centers" were available last summer? Top 6 centers usually have to be drafted by you. Usually.

And they'll trade him for being a locker room cancer because Pugsley Briere is a power bottom for everyone in the org.
