I wonder if the Jays will show any interest in the other Japanese pitcher, Shota Imanaga. Deceptive delivery and can pitch at the top of the zone with his fastball. Looks like a solid 3 starter.

To this point, Imanaga has been linked to several MLB clubs — most recently the Cubs but also the Dodgers and Red Sox. It stands to reason that virtually every mid- or large-market club with a need for pitching will have some degree of interest. Imanaga has been one of the steadiest performers in Japan for the better part of a half decade and has thus been heavily scouted by MLB teams for quite some time now. He’ll likely be on the radar for other bigger-spending teams like the Mets, Yankees, Cardinals, Giants, Angels and Blue Jays (to name a few) over the next six to seven weeks.

Zips projections for Blue Jays are out on FG.

Bo .292/.333/.471 (3.9 WAR)
Vlad .278/.357/.492 (3 WAR)
Kirk .263/.345/.403 (2.9 WAR)
Schneider .230/.333/.430 (2.9 WAR)
Jansen .244/.327/.473 (2 WAR)
Varsho .231/.304/.455 (1.9 WAR)
Springer .254/.328/.432 (2.5 WAR)
Horowitz .255/.343/.384 (1.6 WAR)

Gausman 3.46era (3.6 WAR)
Bassitt 3.83era (3 WAR)
Berrios 4.12era (2.4 WAR)
Kikuchi 4.38era (1.6 WAR)
Manoah 4.48era (1.3 WAR)
Tiedemann 4.08era (1.1 WAR)

Surprisingly optimistic about Horowitz and Schneider. Predicting bouncebacks for Vlad and Kirk. They seem pessimistic or neutral on Varsho at only 1.9 WAR.

Love anywhere should have us at least inquiring. Good

Would you guys do 25M x 10? That's seems to be the number being projected to get it done. That would take him to age 35 and put him 3M higher than Gausman. I'd be ok with that AAV but 10 years at that price could be risk for a 5'10 pitcher with no MLB track record. To earn that contract he would have to produce 3.6 WAR per year for the length of the contract, which is basically 10 years of Berrios-like production.

Basically projecting Varsho to hit like he did in 2022. If he does that he’s gotta be at least a 3-4 win guy.

I think the only way Shohei comes to TO is if he wants a 1 year deal woh alot of money. He won’t pitch next year. Then he can really cash in.

Unless he really wants out, I can’t see them trading him this off-season. If they miss the playoffs next year I could see them moving him.

Or if they completely tank ‘23 Mets style they could still get a haul for 1.5 years of Bo. I don’t see the pressure of moving him right now.

There is no pressure.

There is the ability to set an absurd price and potentially get it (ie Bo for Soto+)

Edit: not that San Diego makes sense given all of the SS they already have

I was going to throw out Bo for Soto and Xander yesterday and SD saves the $50M they need almost one move.

But the Xander contract is so bad BTV says the Jays trading 50 and receiving 0 back. So I’m ok if SD picks up some of Xander’s money on the back end of the deal or they include some major assets like Snelling and/or Kim.

Interesting. Jays are willing to wheel and deal, I am happy.

Bo for Tatis would be tempting but it appears he hasn't played shortstop since 2021. He did, however, have 29 DRS in right field this year and we're looking for an outfielder. It wouldn't make sense though cause there's no obvious way to fill the hole at shortstop it would create.

Need to break up this core imo. I wouldn’t be against moving off of Vlad and Bo if you’re getting stars back. Carter/Alomar 2.0.
I’m not opposed to it, but only at the right price. You do it if someone is willing to give you a haul.

Given the nature of baseball trades and that they NEED to contend this year (the renovations are escalating ticket prices) I think it’s unlikely to happen. They risk alienating more of an already dismayed fan base.

Is Richard Griffin a reliable reporter on the Jays lol he doesn’t seem to know what’s going on. He says we need a 1B/DH? Isn’t Vlady a 1B/DH?
