Outside of Toman's stock dropping I still don't think I'd take this draft over last tbh. I think Doughty/Kasevich/Roden is better than anything after Barriera/Nimmala unless Maroudis ends up throwing 95+.

I still think I take the 2022 class, and Roden's good pro debut has helped bolster it for sure. It just seems crazy to me that it's even close since we had essentially an extra 2.8 million and 3 picks to spend(1.2M 2nd round, 800k x2 comp pick). Based on the 2023 rankings we come out with 3 2nd round level talents anyway. Of course if Maroudis becomes Carter, Watts-Brown gets injured like Van Eyk and Bohrofen develops like Will Robertson and this time next year I'm saying the exact opposite. So there's probably some optimistic viewpoint because they haven't had the chance to let me down yet.

Jays are first in the league in ERA (starter and relievers)

And first in the league in defensive runs saved;

Looks like the focus on run prevention is working but the offense of 2021 unfortunately is long gone. Let's hope the timely hitting comes soon because thats the difference between a good to a great team.

Lets find out if defense truly wins championships.
Playing in Skydome makes it especially brilliant. Yes I know it's called something else but it will always be Skydome for me.

Any stadium to me is forever what it's original name was. Re-naming sports venues is dumb, and the dumbest is that there's a Rogers Arena, a Rogers Stadium, and a Rogers Centre in Canada right now. I honestly have no idea which is which.

Severino comes in after an opener and gets crushed in 2 innings of work. Really not sure why the Yanks continue to put him out there when they're fighting for their playoff lives.

What the hell happened to Severino, anyway? His fastball is pure garbage now with decreased vertical movement and horrible command. Slider sucks, too. I know he has dealt with injuries, but it's not like he was a potato last year. This is seemingly out of nowhere, and will cost him a ton of money this winter

Having said that, wouldn't shock me if a team like the Dodgers signs him and he's back to being a stud next year lol

Looking at his stats, he had two elite years but other than that, he hasn't been healthy.

Will be interesting to see what the Yanks do in the offseason. Their bats aren't good enough and rely too much on Judge. They don't seem to have the prospects ready and their rotation outside of Cole has injury problems. Schmidt could be a solid piece though.

There are actually many Rogers Arenas.

I don't fully agree, because Arrowhead Pond is now the Honda Ponda, but when you have a unique name like the Skydome, the only kind of name that would have been acceptable would have been Rogers Skydome.

I live in SJ, home of Harbour Station, which is named after the harbour that is a short walk in one direction and the old Union Station site, which is actually in the parking lot. It has a new name, but the new name ignores that the old one existed for a reason.

Made up a game on Tampa and Baltimore. 6.5 back of the Orioles. I know that the Orioles will need to take a big dip for Jays to catch them, but I think there is a shot to catch both.

Our next 25+ games or so are pretty soft

Some defensive updates:

At C, Kirk is tied for 2nd in all of baseball in DRS and he's 4th in AL Def (Trevino has less innings, but they are fairly close).

At 3B, Chapman is 3rd overall in DRS and 4th in AL Def.

In CF, Varsho and Kiermeier lead DRS and are 5 and 6 respectively in AL Def

In LF, Varsho is 3rd in DRS (behind two AL guys) and 24th in AL Def (there are only a handful of players with more than 1 DRS and a Def score above 1 in LF and the top 3 DRS guys have Def scores of 0.5, -1.5, and -1.5 respectively).

Given that the Gold Glove is an OF one, not position-based, you could make a strong argument that 3 of the 4 guys here should clearly be the front runners and you could make a very strong argument for the 4th.

Machado would be a fun buy low candidate because his defence still absolutely rules and he's getting babip'd hard this year despite some red circles still kicking around on his savant page.

However, jesus CHRIST that contract.

How much money would San Diego have to keep back for y'all to take that contract? 40%? Half?
Half if not more if they want a decent prospect. Didn’t he sign a 300 million dollar deal? For Rogers to eat money like that SD would actually have to give us a decent prospect, unless like I said they eat the majority of the money
