He won't move up too much unfortunately because he has a non-traditional profile. Baseball America wrote this about him a few days ago:

If he succeeds, he'll likely be a guy who out-plays his prospect ranking. Don't expect him to rank like an elite prospect regardless of how well he hits.
Gonna just put out there what I have been thinking for awhile now.

Not sure he gets that LA looking at his groundball rates but he uses the opposite field a ton like Bichette and Horwitz.
I was musing more in a general sense than specific to Roden.

Consistently high EV but consistently poor LA is the Vladdy profile, while the opposite gets one more of a Davis Schneider type profile, or a Jano one.

But that “Vladdy profile” is also the Juan Soto profile, Yandy Diaz profile, Julio Rodriguez profile, Christian Yelich profile, Bo Bichette profile, Tommy Pham profile, etc. Hitting it hard on the ground can still be effective.

Also just to compare all those guys I mentioned. Vladdy has the 2nd highest xwOBA behind Soto but the lowest wRC+. He also has the highest LA, 3rd lowest GB%, and his closest comp to batted ball profile is probably JRod. The only issue is his BABIP is significantly lower than all the other guys, and 70 points lower than JRod’s.

Clearly the lack of LA isn’t a problem here and it’s still unbelievably odd how his season has fared to date.

I don't recall saying that it can't be effective. What I am musing is that (for actual results) a profile driven by elite EV and mediocre LA may not be better in practice than mediocre EV and consistently good LA. In an ideal world, one wants both EV AND LA.

I'm just speculating that unless your EV is truly elite (and even if it is - in most of those examples given above this season), it seems to be that LA might be a better predictor of actual results vs x results.

Vladdy's season has been unbelievably odd. But there comes a time when you have to at least try to understand why a player like that has consistently underperformed his peripherals year over year. The sample size now rules out luck completely.

So what is it that is causing his issues? Damned if I know, but like many, I am expecting ground ball outs every time up.

I’ve been seeing a lot of people suggesting this, or that at this point Vladdy is what he is. I want to point out that this is the very first year that he has underperformed relative to his peripherals. Every year before this one you could make the case that he performed at or better than his peripherals. This year he’s more than 40 points below his xwOBA. This is not a normal or “he is what he is” type of season from him.

So if we sweep the A’s we’re guaranteed to be in a wild card spot. One of Houston or Texas has to lose at least 2 of the next 3. Nice.
Mariners also have a couple of tough series on the road coming up against the Reds and the Rays. We could also catch them in the next week if we take care of the As like we should. I’m personally hoping we can sweep Texas in our series against them coming up and eliminate them ourselves. That was a fall tradition I was loving in the mid 2010s.

Has anyone check out the NL WC race? Lol doesn't seem like anyone wants the final spot. Miami just swept the Nats but they were trash before the series, and now their schedule becomes hell.
I hadn't noticed, but that's a crazy race... Phillies and Cubs in the first two spots with a bit of breathing room, then a four-way tie for the last spot (between teams who are just three games over .500, too).

Vladdy -47
Tatis -41

You have no idea what the stat you're responding to means. Loser.
It’s a made up stat loser. Just like you’re going to try and find any stupid stat that will try and make vlad look good. He’s a pos. But go ahead and try and convince yourself he’s so great. He’s an overrated bum.

Tiedemann went 3 innings yesterday, 5 K’s, 2 BB, 1 hit, 0 runs. Not sure why they’d aren't letting him go longer but they do have him going every 5 days now instead of once per week

No idea if Texas has injuries BUT their pitching is very shaky. I have been watching them alot. Its hard watching TO because I want them to win so bad but have been disappointing so far this year. Its easier for me to watch the teams we’re competing against.
