Cronenworth is a big pass for me. Can only play 1B and 2B and is terrible a SS. He is basically Biggio but had back to back 4 WAR seasons in 2021 and 2022 which is great but he is owed a guaranteed $80ish million over 7 years;

YearAgeTeamSalary
202430San Diego Padres$7,285,714
202531San Diego Padres$11,285,715
202632San Diego Padres$12,285,714
202733San Diego Padres$12,285,714
202834San Diego Padres$12,285,714
202935San Diego Padres$12,285,715
203036San Diego Padres$12,285,714

Coming off a 1 WAR season with a 92 OPS+. Unless SD wants to pay half the contract, no interest on my part. Even then you can get a similar player in Whit for a lot less.

Rule 5 draft about to start. I don't expect anyone from the Jays to be taken or the Jays to take anyone, but you never know

Both first 2 picks taken were Yankees AAA pitchers

Here is a question? Why would SD finalize a deal with the Yankees if jays haven’t been determined a winner for Ohtani?

Jays are said to be interested in both. But Ohtani first. So why wouldn’t they wait for Ohtani to be decided before dealing Soto?

Unless of course the only other team interested in paying the price for Soto is out because they have won the Ohtani sweepstakes!!!
The Yankees upped their offer and it far surpassed what the Jays were offering?

I wonder if playing in Korea with the Dodgers against San Diego would at all be appealing to Ohtani. It's not too far from home and he could have friends and family at the series.

Jays do not select anyone in the rule 5 draft

MLB phase of the Rule 5 draft is over. Nobody from the Jays was taken. Yankees lost a 3rd AAA pitcher

I mentioned earlier, SD is opening the season vs LAD in South Korea. Padres already have Kim and they will serve well to get Hoo Lee irrespective of his place of birth but that adds an extra layer. I expect the pitching needy Dodgers grab Ryu on a 1 year deal too.

Just a friendly reminder, Soto is available because SD has to cut approximately 50 mil in payroll. They do not have the budget to turn around and sign another FA, given that they borrowed money to make payroll.

I was obviously being facetious.

Jays draft Alexis Hernandez, OF from Boston A ball team in the minor league phase. Know nothing about him, and he's probably not good given he's a milb rule 5 pick. But you never know

The post I quoted had a quote from Heyman suggesting that SD would go after Lee after trading Soto, even though the money doesn't work.
Ha. My bad. The sequence of your response following mine was perfect.

I also didn't realize there are actually more options out there than Ohtani and Soto right now.

He's almost off the board, and your response was that they're not getting either.

Again, you're complaining about a thing you think is going to happen as if it's already happened.

Lol lets not play verbal gymnastics, Soto is heading to the Yankees, a divisional rival.

I have no idea what you mean by "nothing happens" as one of the two big names we were rumored to be interested in is currently at the end stages of becoming a New York Yankee.

It almost seems like maybe the Ohtani team could be leaking info (or even making it up) in order to get the Blue Jays to up their offer.
