Shi says that the mostly likely path is a path they've talked about for a while which isn't periphery moves, but complimentary pieces

BNS wonders do you do something to give the team a jolt?

Part of what goes on this week might play into it (mentions if Kirk/Varsho turn it around)

If neither of those things take hold, Shi thinks there's a path towards something more significant if the group needs it

BNS says that you'd have to consider it as the blue jays front office
Wonders if we may see more of a "out of the comfort zone trade"

Shi says how do you tip the scales that you get them to being a consistent team, that's the bar

Mentions Edman as said to be available from the Cardinals

Shi mentions Pham as a guy who would play 3-4 times a week off the bench

Shi says that Ohtani is going back to the west coast

Toronto Blue Jays: Buyers — The Blue Jays will focus on adding pitching depth in both the rotation and bullpen as well as trying to add a complementary right-handed-hitting outfielder. What they really need is for righty Alek Manoah to start pitching like he did last year and for lefty Hyun Jin Ryu to give them a boost when he comes off the injured list in August.

Doing some napkin analysis here but writing it out is a tad therapeutic. I wanted to go through the lineup and compare their offensive output to their general preseason expectations.

George: Below Expectations
Bo: Met Expectations
Vladdy: Below Expectations
Belt: Exceeded Expectations
Chapman: Met? You could argue exceeded
Whit: Met Expectations
Varsho: Below Expectations
Kiermaier: Exceeded Expectations
Kirk: Below Expectations
Jansen: It's tough but i'd say met.

That's 2.5 Exceededs (none of which are signed past this season), 3ish Mets, and 4 belows (does not include the Biggio and Espinal bench duo, who both are once again below)

Does this mean anything? No. I think this is probably what to look at if you're asking yourself why the fanbase is so upset even if the offensive metrics as a whole are good. When your core guys in Vladdy, Kirk, and Springer all underperform, rentals like Belt and Kiermaier overperforming isnt going to appease the fanbase. The casuals can be annoying but they have a right to be a little ticked off.
I think your assessments are bang on in regards to meeting or not meeting expectations. But I think Springer, Kirk and Varsho are going to go off in the last 1/3 of the season. I expect at least two of them to get hot. Many times a guy will struggle all year then in the last couple months go on fire and into the playoffs. Even a .780 Springer, A .730 Kirk and a .720 Varsho would raise the floor a good bit. Vladdy and Bo are still very key. Need them to be good. We could probably use another RH hitting outfield. But other than that I think we have enough.

I was in the process of writing how I don't understand how Edman would fit (he's obviously worse than Bo, and Merrifield has been a lot better this year, so he's just an upgrade on Espinal, which likely isn't worth what it would cost), and then I noticed he's been playing a lot of OF and, despite his overall regression this year, his wRC+ is 115 against lefties... 123 career. Huh.

He's not what I would traditionally think of as the "lefty-masher" I want them to add, but most of those guys don't play strong defense at multiple positions and run the bases really well, either. He also comes with two more years of control and could fill one of the Kiermaier/Merrifield roles when they leave in the offseason. I'm... kinda on board.

Steve Phillips was just on Overdrive and said he could see the Jays going after Verlander if the Mets make him available. They were after him for 2 off-seasons in a row and if the Mets want to shed money, a marriage between the Jays and Verlander makes sense.

I guess Atkins is going for a Whit Merrifield 2.0? That's not bad, but I am hoping for some kind of a bigger impact move

I think so. It’s a sellers market imo. And the only 2 premier talents available are Ohtani and maybe Stroman. I doubt Ohtani moves and if he does, probably won’t be to the Jays. And I don’t think there is a need for Stroman based on cost and his past relationship or lack thereof with this FO. I think he lands something like an Orelvis type prospect plus more because there are so many buyers who need pitching.

So unless someone is available that we don’t know about I think the deadline moves will be similar to last year. Bellinger may be an option and possibly Max or Verlander if the Mets decide to move off them.

Would love Bellinger, a plan B for Romano if he goes down or falters and a veteran pitcher who can eat innings, maybe some who can start or go into the pen for long relief.

I guess its good to get something back rather than nothing but i dont McCoy ever sees a major league field. Also worth noting that Trent barely pitched for us too.

Lets hope he is brought in to play some AAA innings after some of our middle infielders in AAA are moved out in trade deadline moves.

They are about the same age. The advantage that McCoy has is that he's not on the 40 man.
