My wish list for the off-season. And it kind of involves tanking.

Somehow win that damn lottery and draft Macklin.

Sign Nylander 7 x 10ish

Somehow dump Armia and Dvorak

Dach returns fully healthy

Newhook back at it

2024-25

Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
Celebrini - Dach - Nylander
Anderson - Newhook - Gally
RHP - Evans - Ylonen

Habs are playing 6 games in the next 10 days (starting tomorrow) in 5 different cities and outside of Buffalo, the other teams ranks higher than the Habs.

That's favorable scheduling for the tankers.
Unless of course, the Habs embrace the challenge… which will inevitably infuriate the tankers

Before road trip started my expectation was Habs would accumulate 7-8 pts, they’re sitting at 5.

9pts would make this a very good trip

I stopped contributing to the conversation when a poster claimed that Eichel doesn’t bring more then just the points after the defensive clinic he put up last year.
Not really what I said though. I said he brings less of a complete game relative to Stone and Suzuki. Eichel is fine defensively but he's not anything special, both Stone and Suzuki are much more then just "fine".

Hard to see how he put up a defensive clinic last year when this year is the first time he's ever been used regularly on the PK, has never not had more offensive starts then defensive ones, nor ever hit 50% on the faceoff dot.

Suzuki is fine, but nothing special, defensively. Just like he is offensively.

Very good two way player, but far from a real top end guy like Bergeron.

It's certainly clear that their are 2 terrible teams at the bottom and then the next tier of 2-3 teams. After that it's wide open as 6th OA to 11th OA only 3 pts between them. Then the next group of 12th to 15th OA are only 1 to 4 pts ahead

If you look at the standings this time last year the Habs had 33 pts in 34 games.

Looking at it from goal dif -

Sharks/Hawks terribad
Ducks/Jackets -22/-21
Sabers/Habs/Seattle -18/-17/-16

Looking at RW - Only 5 teams in the NHL have a RW under 10,

Habs/Sharks - 7
Hawks - 8
Ducks/Jackets - 9

Anywhere from 6-12 seems like the range but I expect us in the 7-9 range when it's all said and done.

There should also be an opportunity to trade up with some teams. Especially if they are targeting defenseman, we aren't a threat to take a player they want if that's the case.

People talk about trading up every year, but in practice it's extremely rare.

It's rare but it happens.. and I'm not talking trading into the top 3. More that if we are at 8 for example, the team at 6 wants a defenseman and likes 2 of them, we can pay to move up to 6, jump a team that wants a forward and get who we want and they'll know at worst, they'll get 1 of the 2 defenseman they like.

This should be a draft where that type of movement is more possible because after Celebrini, it's anyones guess who goes where.

Expecting the next 4 games to finally bring us back down to earth. 2 points or less and we're back baby.

At the end of the day I think we end up in the 75-80 point range (playing between 0.400 and 0.460 from now on). On a regular year that should be good for 7-9 in the draft but I actually think we have a shot at 5-6, considering many of the teams behind us are clearly better and there's so much parity.

oilers could move within 2 pts (+2 in hand as well) if they can beat the worst team in the league.
