Honestly I think the team cannot generate offence. Shutting down the Suzuki Caufield pretty much wins for other teams.

Until we address secondary scoring, we cannot win. We really need a #2 centre. Macklin Celebrini.

Nice to lose a couple.
I still see us as 8-12 tho.
Too many trash teams this year.
Who is worse than the Habs except SJS ? Even CHI and ANA are showing more pulse than the Habs. Only 7 regulation wins… no player above 10 goals… everybody can hope for a lottery win and then be satisified with your 1OA scoring at a 10 goal per season pace.

What is the point of this tank ?

we need a top 5 pick this year and next .

However, For this team to get to the next step, Hughes needs to find someone to play with Caufield and Suzuki . Nylander would be a dream. 8 years * 11m$.

Caufield-Suzuki-Nylander
Slafkovsky-Dach-Newhook/Anderson

Could be a nice top 6 to work with .
Which cup winning team has needed 4 years of top 5 picks to win cups except PIT ?

Is safe to say we will end up around 5-8. The bottom 4 would be the same as last year. The real problem are Ottawa and Calgary. Did the Sens give up on this season? Will Calgary start selling ad beginning a rebuild?

Pretty sure Edmonton, Minnesota and Seattle would stay above us in the standing. Same about Buffalo (maybe).
I'm not even sure we can count Detroit out of the bottom-10 race. They have 3 points on us but we have a game in hand, and they have a tough stretch in the last half of January with LA, Toronto, Florida, Carolina, Tampa, Dallas, Philly, and Vegas. If they do badly in that stretch of games it could push them out of the playoff race and into possibly selling. Especially since Kane's been over a ppg since they got him, but the team hasn't won in regulation with him going 2-9-1.

Yzerman won't sell. His job could be in danger if they don't make the playoff soon. The only way he trade kane is if the player ask for it.

Watching the Rocket perform.
I'm starting to realize just how good our tank could have been if Houle got the reins to our big club.
While Marty earned his stripes in Laval. :skeptic:
Marty just not play a structured team
Hurts our penalty kill and zone exits.

As i said couple of weeks ago i'm not worried. If the draft would be today we would draft 9th and this despite a good first half. It's going to be a positive year, Kids are showing something and we will draft top 10.
Which kids are showing something?
Slaf is the only one that has improved.

Suzuki is not a kid anymore and Caufield is having a shitty season (for his standards). The rest of the forwards are veterans past their prime. Very exciting.

Guhle is not having a great season either. Arber in the AHL. Barron might be the worst D-man defensively I've seen in a while.

So yeah... rebuild is not going as it should. In fact, it's just starting. Going to be a long 5-6 years.

Seems like nobody’s hit a higher level of production. I think some have better fancy stats, for instance Guhle, but not better production. This prospective core is no core at all, fool’s gold.

Which basically means this GM of ours has no businesses sitting on his hands.

Every aspect of this organization is below par and he’s playing poker for 4th round draft picks.

Plus ça change…

The way this team is currently built makes zero sense. I know Hughes is working on the rebuild but my goodness this team is bad.
They also can't ignore this horrendous coaching staff.
So u don’t believe the team has overachieved I take it?

Selling or not they are likely missing the playoffs, frankly I'm not even sure being buyers would help them. Looking at their schedule they might very easily only have something like 3-4 more wins by the end of January. If that point what's the point in keeping Kane?

Anyways time will tell maybe they'll get out of their current funk and stay in the hunt for a playoff spot.

I don’t believe this team has a solid core to build around either. They are very boring to watch as well.

I think there are plenty of good d prospects and a couple will emerge as real solid core pieces, but the forward group doesn’t look good imo.

Maybe with Dach in the lineup it is enough to balance things out, but I’m not convinced. I was never convinced by Newhook as a top 6 player on a contender.

I really like Caufield/Suzuki/Slaf, but they need some support. Obviously Dach going down hurts, but even with him, I feel it’s still quite poor.

Yeah we are in a pretty good spot, lots of positives signs from the young players and we'll top it off with a top-10 pick. Lots of growing pains as well but that was to be expected.

The fact Jake Evans is centering a second line screams "sell, sell, sell"
Was it wise though? He can't put up points even with this promotion, it hurts his value. I thought it was a fair contract when it was signed, but his progression is underwhelming. We're stuck with him for another year. I would have preferred we signed vets on a one-year deal to flip them instead

Get your motor running!

Hoping for a classic 8 game losing streak so this tank is firmly established
These two losses in a row really helped our lottery position.

But they were against good teams, and we were tied going into the 3rd, even late in the 3rd. I'm not optimistic about the tank unless we have more injuries or trade key contributors like Savard, Matheson, Monahan, etc...

Evans is well worth his low cap hit imo. before these past two games he was at 0.5 points per game. since his promotion. let's see if he can bounce back.

.500 at best with everyone healthy is where I pegged this team. That includes having to work twice as hard as good team to get those results.
Last night was a perfect example of a good team not at their best stifling us.

8th, not bad.

I hope the Habs' add one more impact forward from this draft, and one more from the Calgary pick.

Though the Calgary pick is not looking good due to Florida's continued strength.

As we currently look, me too. Offence is hot trash. Not close to good enough even with a healthy Dach. And while we have some interesting prospects like Beck, Roy, Mesar etc, I don't see any of them turning into game breakers.

We need at least 1, preferably 2 studs up front. Like a nylander for example.

Our saving grace right now is all the prospects and draft capital we have. We need to use those to acquire some firepower via trade. We are not there yet so I'm not too worried for now. If Hugo manages his assets right when the time comes, we'll be good.

I think most of us expected this team to struggle for the most part, especially after the loss of Dach, and even more after the loss of Newhook as they just don't have the forward depth to compensate for these types of losses. These types of games show that they still have a ways to go. I think they're where they should be in the standings for the most part. Another top 5-10 pick was expected this season, but I do expect them to be in the mix for a playoff spot next season (i'm not saying they will make the playoffs), especially if they can stay healthy.

They should be 32nd with only 4 good forwards. With Dach and Newhook they would be a playoff team.

special teams are among the worst.
This is what kills me. Our PK has played the same stagnant docile passive style ever since Therrien came back.
I'm sorry but not being able to hit 78% which is still bottom half of the league is not acceptable rebuild or no.
34 goals given up on our PK is worst in the league I don't care about any other stat.
To put it in context we'd need the best PP in the league to break even. :help:
The thing I find disturbing is our team has no faith in our defenders being able to force errors.
Nope we have to wait for the unforced errors and hope we find a lane to clear the puck.
