Typical Habs, impeccable timing as always

Better hope our scouts have some horseshoes up their butt or our rebuild will end with no PPG players. At least our D will be decent I guess but I don't like this team's chances as they develop...

Looking at schedule. Sounds like devastating road trip coming up. Florida, Tampa, Carolina on the end. Dallas is good team, Wild play us well. Only weak team is Chicago. If we get out of these next 7 games with 7 points I be thrilled.

Right now we 13-13-4. I predicted a .500 team at start of season. But that was with Dach. Have to be pleased how Habs hanging in there.

Habs 5x5 pretty decent team. Marty coaches with little structure. I think it hurts our pk and pp. We ever fix special teams this is playoff team.

it was the same thing last year, every time we win a game people would overreact and say how no way are we picking top 5 or top 10. Currently they are 2 pts ahead of the 5th OA pick, granted we have 2 games in hand but there is still a ton of hockey left to play and this team is not very good.

the Habs are one of the worst teams in goal Dif (5th OA, same spot they ended up in last year) and are tied with the Ducks for last place in the entire NHL in RW with 6. After the bottom 5 teams, the next group has 9 or more RW.

We haven't had a very hard schedule yet either.

Who were the VGK PPG players? STL? Etc

Suzuki is close to a 70-pts pace despite Caufield being on a 22G pace - he will be a steady 2-way 75-80pts 1C.

There’s too much of an obsession w PPG forwards IMO , what use is scoring at PPG pace if you can’t be defensively aware, which is what most of the top end forwards are except the very few - Crosby, Malkin, MacKinnon, Rantanen

Stutzle is a PPG+ player and mediocre defensively, he missed basic coverage vs VGK yesterday & they kept taking advantage of his weakness. McDavid vs Danault getting neutralized last few playoffs at 5-on-5 etc..

The focus should be on building a strong team that is 19-man lineup deep

2 points ahead?
They are 5 points ahead good sir.

A little over a month ago the Habs had a .533 record, T-19th with TBL. Hockey Reference had them at 22nd overall under their Standard Rating System (SRS).

Today the Habs are at .500, T-21st with PIT and MIN. Hockey Reference has them at 29th in SRS.

This upcoming 6GP road trip starting tonight in Winter-peg will provide lots of insight on this teams standing for this season

IMO what’s most impressive is they’ve been able to hang in there despite the loss of Dach whose importance to this roster can’t be overemphasized

We haven't had a very hard schedule yet either.

This road trip for me is make or break. Because they're not just on the road (minus the Christmas break), but they're playing some of the top teams in the league (Jets, Panthers, Stars).

And even if they're technically not in a playoff spot at the moment, Tampa and Carolina are tough teams to beat. And they also got Minny, who put a whooping on Habs last time they played.

If they come out of this playing .500 hockey, it would be a holiday miracle.

Or a lump of a coal, depending on your perspective.

at the time I wrote that we were 2 pts ahead of Seattle who were 5th OA (I go by win % on tankathon) but we won and the Sens loss dropped them into 5th. So we are 2 pts out of 6th OA but with 2 games in hand. 8 teams currently have been 27 and 31 points so it's a tight group right now but in 4-5 weeks it should start to get clearer.

Call me optimistic or maybe pessimistic?
But I don't see a universe where we finish with a better pick than 8.
We will see tho! 🤞

It's too hard to say at this point since it's so tight, if it remains this tight it will just come down to luck if we end up a few spots lower or higher. But take a look at the standings at the end of last season, look at the goal Dif and then compare it today's standings, if they continue to be among the worst teams in RW and Goal DIF, then we will get a good pick for sure pre lottery.

Sens fired DJ Smith and hired our boy Jacques Martin. Even if you don't like Martin, this is good for the tank. That team will probably get going.

that's so odd as when I opened tankathon and was pissed to see the Sens at 5th OA and I swear I said in my head I hope they fire their coach soon so they get going since they have won only 3 of their last 10 games. We must finish below them and the Sabers so our rivals don't get a better pick.

Technically, their hired their boy Jacques Martin. He coached the Sens from 1996 to 2004.

Mintyukov and Carlsson on top of the other young guns with Anaheim. They so much further along.
In fact every lottery team is far behind us.

Sad.

What’s most frustrating is that we’re not even playing “winning culture” hockey.
