Well hopefully we win Celebrini because I have zero confidence in us picking the right player. Tough to rebuild when your scouting team never wants to draft the most skilled player with a top 5 pick.

I know it's frustrating. It's crazy how we tanked several years, and don't even have 2/3 of the top 20 prospects/young players right now. Is it our scouting, is it development, is it both? I would fire everyone and then just start over.

@Scriptor you may want to watch Jayden Struble play before calling him a disappointment. He has been head and shoulders Laval's best Dman this season and should be considered for a call up when the need arises. He has been solid.
Where did I say he is a disappointment? I think you're quoting the wrong person? I don't think I even spoke of him. I just mentioned that Mesar was producing at 2 points a game since his return to Juniors.

I hope the Habs compete for the playoffs in 2025.
2025-2026 would be a nice year to compete for the playoffs. It's not just a question of having good prospects. It's a matter of seeing them mature so they can have an impact.

Will Hutson, Reinbacher, Mailloux, Roy, etc. be at a stage where they can actually have an impact in just two years.

Also, to compete for playoff spot, ageing teams like WASH and PIT will need to miss the playoffs and teams like BOS will need to both be unable to address their lack of depth at C and actually suffer format(which isn't apparent enough right now).

I may be. My apologies if I screwed up. You are always a person of logic

Yep I went back and reread...it wasn't you, again...my apologies

No worries. Not like you were slandering me or anything. Just wanted to make it clear it wasn't my opinion. Thanks.

You're going to fire an entire staff that was put in place less than 2 years ago?

If the Habs draft Eiserman or Celebrini, would you prefer that they start in the NHL or AHL next year?

both would be in the NCAA next year I would hope, Celebrini we'll see how it goes for him as he's dominating but he's so easy to push off the puck, he's flat on the ice at least a few times a game.

Last year I underrated Fantilli in the 1st half of the season as I did not think he would take off like he did in the 2nd half (that's the tougher half, most games are conference matchups unlike the 1st half where top teams play the shitty ones from the Atlantic, etc..) But physically he looked NHL ready, Celebrini looks deadly on the PP and his skill level looks a decent amount higher. I fully expect teams will want him in the NHL but as of today I wouldn't push it but we'll see when the season ends and the draft gets here and how he looks at the development camp.

There's not a single person in the world that can say just what the Habs will have from these prospects, just way too many wild cards and unknowns at this point of their development stages. In 5 years we could be looking at one hell of a club or we could be in even worse shape then we are now. At this point things are still very unclear as to just what do the Habs actually have.

For the record I have stated many times I am against trying to rebuild through your D prospects/goalies. I know replacing Markov is hard as shit but to me if you don't have the offensive skill down the middle you are going to be in tough no matter what you have. I'm sure there are some exceptions to the rule as that's often the case in life but I would much rather see us have a strong group of forward prospects and try to figure out the rest.

Granted you could just end up the Oilers but would you rather have to watch the Oilers or the Habs over the past 5 or so years. They suck too but at least they are fun to watch (or so I assume since they have 2 of the top players in the league, I don't watch the NHL at all)

From a quick google search
Reinbacher @20 & Hutson @21, Slaf is graduated but as a comparable Wright is 13

Reinbacher @20 & Hutson @27, Slaf is graduated with Wright @14
Reinbacher @17 & Hutson @26, Slaf is graduated with Wright @15

So we are already borderline meeting your 2/3 top 20 prospects. But frankly I'm not sure these types of top prospects lists are ever any good to begin with. I'm not loving Bobrov/Lapointe combo and I think we need to add more people on the development side but really there hasn't been enough time to judge as a fan, Hughes will have a lot more info at his disposal to make evaluations.

Exactly , what are these people talking about lol, they want a 2 year tank then playoffs LOL

This is why we can't have nice things , weak
You do realize there is no more tanking, right? Like, we aren't finishing bottom 5. We've missed the playoffs 5/8 seasons, so unintential or not, a lot of us have considered this longer. I see the habs finishing just outside the bottom 10 and probably drafting another 3rd line forward this year. We will hype up whoever we draft, we do that every year though. Trust me, I wish we had another top 5 pick this year, do you see that happening?

No I doubt we do but I'm saying we should

I think Pezz finds another level and takes this team to the playoffs on his shoulders.

Being out of the playoffs though might make the team more inclined to call up / give games to the prospects who’s seasons will be over. Woooa, Pezz.

Same thing was said this time last year. It could easily happen again or not. It's a little over 4 weeks into the season, when it's 12 weeks in things will start to look clearer.

Yes. I don't think this team is any good at all. The problem is there are a number of shitty teams so the difference between us ending up 4th OA or 10th OA could come down to very little going one way or the other.

Listen... maybe you don't come around enough to notice this, but if a tanking thread is being tolerated on this very forum, it's because there's a very high likelyhood we'll pick high.

Get this, there was a time when we couldn't even mention the T word in the GDTs unless we wanted to get threadbanned.

So Bedard has 2 Goals and 4 points in a little over a period today.

Thank God the culture was so important last year, guys! So much more important than getting 18 year olds that can easily put up 4 points in one game while we acquire Mid defensemen and big f***ing Neanderthals that don't understand what hockey is.

So awesome.

A handful of useless wins courtesy of unimportant scrubs like RHP, Belzile and Montembeault who all decided to play the best hockey of their life for a few weeks cost us a top 3 pick and a legit shot at Bedard.

Nauseating.
