They literally do the lottery on video with a third party conducting it with representatives from each team present. Any conspiracy theories are absurd and can be twisted for whatever stupid argument a person comes up with. You think the league wanted Edmonton to win it a million times?

Anyway, as mentioned it's a third straight game where we're seeing a team on the end of a back to back. We may set a record for times we face a backup goalie. Don't lay an egg Tampa, would be nice to course-correct quickly back to .500 after that 5-2-2 start.

I believe the owners would do anything that increases profits. Black hawks could have had a serial killer on the team and they would cover it up to protect profits. I am sure Molson doesn't care if he wins a Cup. He cares about profits. It's not a reach to think they might consider getting stars into bigger markets.
So… the owners are in on it? Or they aren’t? How many people are in on this? Do they kill the people in on it after it occurs to ensure silence?

Somehow I don’t think San Jose’s ownership would go along with Chicago getting Bedard. So I don’t see how they’d go along with this. And if Chicago were in on it, what happens in ten years when they want another top pick? Do they blow the whistle to get what they want?

Is Bettman doing this on his own? How does he manage to do this without anyone finding out? And why the hell would he risk his own reputation over something like this?

The third party is clearly in on it too…

E&Y make almost $50b in revenue yearly….

The value of the NHL teams combined is waaaayyyy below that. As if E&Y would risk anything just to appease Bettman or the owners.

Calgary are already going down to the bottom. Hope they stay in the bottom for the 2025 draft (Monahan first round pick).

There's a pretty good chance that most, if not all of those teams will finish ahead of Montreal when the season ends. Records aside, Montreal is tied with Columbus for the 2nd worst goal differential in the East (ahead of the Capitals). Each generally has better predictive team stats than Montreal (except for Columbus).

The Monahan pick is still tbd and unless the panthers collapse this year it’s unlikely that we get Calgary for next year

Ernst & Young wouldn't be involved. It would be one or 2 employees on their own. It would only work if the same ones worked the NHL draft for a few years.

We’ll see. I’m in the opinion that MTL will be lucky to snag a top 10 pick. I see them 8-14

Perhaps. I don't see them settling that high given how the season has gone so far. They have one of the most fortunate records in the league so far given their performances, Dach is gone for the season and they have one of the tougher schedules for the rest of the season. They're also still in rebuild mode, which means they'll look to sell well before they look to buy. Smart money is them finishing around 5th worst again.

If they are close to a playoff spot at the deadline it will be interesting to see what Hughes does. I expect he would add but only expiring contracts that are relatively cheap.

I'd be flabbergasted if Montreal was close to a playoff spot by the middle of January, let alone the deadline, but I still doubt Montreal buys at all.

The only team with less regulation wins than the Habs is the Sharks.
Habs are tied with the Kraken and Oilers with two regulation wins. Sharks have zero.

I think regulation losses are a better marker for how poor a team is playing, but that's still an encouraging stat for the tank.

I still don't see anything to be concerned with, unless they find a way to score goals, 13 skaters have combined for 6 goals this year. (Matheson, Anderson, Slaf, Ylonen, RHP, Evans, Armia, Xhekaj, Guhle, Harris, Savard, Kovacevic, Pezzetta) plus no Dach. That's going to put a ton of pressure on Caufield/Suzuki/Monahan.
