People have to stop with this crap. Hughes had NOTHING to trade last year. Hopefully he will have some healthy and awake players this year instead of worthless sacks of trash like Drouin and Dadonov.

No I agree... I wasn't knocking Hughes. Still, this year should be different injuries aside.

worst case is we're a bubble team at the deadline, either just in a WC spot, or within 5 pts of it. I would hate not to be sellers @ the deadline. A healthy Pearson and Monahan have some great value with how they're playing right now. If Armia can get going he might bring back a late pick, and if savard ever came back too. Just hate to buy at the deadline and hope to squeeze in a playoff spot.

I don't see a world where we are not sellers. Even DET sold last year when it seemed they were making the playoffs...

Edmundson came back and played before the tdl. Trading Allen/Monty would have been valuable for the tank last year.
Come on, at best you would have gotten a round 5 for him. With the way Ed has playing, he has helping the tank.

The main problem has the AHL career player having a great season. They are all back to earth this season.

Edmundson has injure before the tdl. Should have traded Anderson. Allen has worth nothing last year.
Anderson's contracts (big money with term) aren't traded at the tdl. He should have been traded in the off-season thought, but the real problem is that Hughes hang on into him because he was big and fast. Anderson's value was at his highest when Hughes became GM.

Allen, Anderson and Edmundson.
Considering the guys listed are both not very good but had term it kinda proves the point that Hughes had nothing to work with last deadline.

This coming year we basically only have Monahan & Pearson as players other teams will want. Nobody will want them if they don't stay healthy and productive, and if they are healthy and productive it's not clear we should trade them for anything less then an overpayment which is far from guaranteed.

None were on expiring contracts. Might move them for nothing but that is about it. Anderson would likely have returned something but not enough to retain for years. Monahan was the valuable trade chip so of course he got hurt.

But seriously... who in the East is gonna end up worse than the Habs? The Sens?
The Sens, unless DJ Smith is replaced.
Leafs/Panthers/Sabres could be exposed if certain key players gets injured long term.

But the Habs shouldn't be higher since players should moved at the deadline making the team worst for the last 1/4 the season.

That’s the great thing about conspiracy theories. They don’t have to make any sense so you can believe anything at all.
Except it DOES make sense to fix the draft if they are trying to maximize profits. No way to know if it is possible since we don't know the entire process.
As I said before the original point was the draft lottery does not stop tanking so it is garbage. The only possible benefits are additional advertising money and fixing the lottery (if it was possible).

No matter who wins you can argue whatever you want.

Oh the NHL wanted Chicago to win because… Montreal only won because… Edmonton won because…

It’s silly man.

It will be interesting.

Will Wash & Pitt recover?
Philly & CBJ are sub .500 & could stay there long term.

We will (hopefully) sell some pieces & face other injuries, so dropping below .500 wouldn't surprise... But if healthy? This is a young group that could be playing it's best hockey in the new year/ back 1/2 of the season.

Best case for us... We squeeze out 2x extra 1sts (one+ for Monahan, one for other vet(a) + taking a cap dump), make the playoffs as a wild card & win a round, package picks/futures to move into top 5 so we still add a dynamic offensive talent

The Laval Rocket are going to be a better team next year when they add Reinbacher, Hutson, Engstrom, Beck, Mesar, and Celebrini :-)

Even it profits were maximized by fixing the lottery which is frankly debatable to begin with, it would still make no sense for the NHL since the downside of it coming out would destroy way more value then they could possibly get by "fixing" the lottery. So no it doesn't make sense.

Getting Tampa off a back to back, and presumably they have a back-up who is WORSE than Jonas Johansson.

Sad for the tank.
In the next 10 games there are only 2 teams that we are better than at rhe moment and that is the Flames and Sharks.

The other teams we face during this stretch are the
Lightning
Red Wings
Bruins x2
Canucks
Knights
Ducks
Kings

I believe the owners would do anything that increases profits. Black hawks could have had a serial killer on the team and they would cover it up to protect profits. I am sure Molson doesn't care if he wins a Cup. He cares about profits. It's not a reach to think they might consider getting stars into bigger markets.
